I have a severe sore throat and I am feeling nauseous. I was prescribed this medication when I was pregnant because I cannot take penicillin. Some other options include Nitrofurantoin, Metronidazole, Amoxicillin and Ampicillin, though there is always a risk that you may find yourself allergic or sensitive to more medications, that tends to be the way it works. Allergic to penicillin does Azitromicina contain any? ## Hi alton, Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It does NOT contain any Penicillin, nor is it related to Penicillin. Azithromycin is actually a derivative of Erythromycin, so as long as you aren't allergic to Erythromycin as well, it seems to me that you shouldn't have any problems. I currently have a tooth abcess that my endodontist is trying to treat. The problem he is having is that I am allergic to the antibiotics that are best at treating this. I am allergic to penicillin, erythromycin, cephalosporins. We tried cipro but that did not do much after 2 weeks. Is there another antibiotic I can try? ## Are you able to take the sulfa based ones, such as Bactrim? It can cause some nasty side effects and there is the risk of being allergic for about 3% of people, which is why I don't usually recommend it to anyone, but it may be your best option.
