I'm taking doxycycline 100mg (2/day for 10 days) to prevent infection from a sting ray encounter in SW Florida's gulf waters. Potential bacterium: Staph', Strep', Vibrio. It's a green and white capsule from mexico. I think it is an antibiotic but am not certain. ## This sounds a lot like Doxycycline... or some foreign version of it. I've seen other trade names of Doxycycline that appeared similar to what you mentioned; however I get the sense that the spelling is always subject to change when obtaining medications from abroad or via unregulated websites. If you live in the US, I'd probably consider taking it into a local pharmacy to see if they have any way of analyzing its contents. If I had to guess though, 100mg Doxycycline (an antibiotic) seems like a high probability. Please post back if you come across any new information.

Is there any difference between this and Amoxicillin for my dog? ## Although both medications have similar indications with regards to the variety of infections they treat, they are still two different types of antibiotics with different chemical structures, side effects, dosages, potency, absorption rates, etc; which all play a significant role in how well your dog may react and respond to each medication. So to answer your question, I wouldn't consider them equal for canines or humans. Doxycycline is in a class of medications called tetracycline antibiotics. Amoxicillin is in a class of medications called penicillin-like antibiotics. You can learn more about these drugs on the page for Doxycycline Details and Amoxicillin Details I hope this info helps!
