Codeine is an opiate and prodrug of morphine used to treat pain, coughing, and diarrhea. It is found naturally in the sap of the opium poppy, Papaver somniferum.[3][5] It is typically used to treat mild to moderate degrees of pain.[3] Greater benefit may occur when combined with paracetamol (acetaminophen) or a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) such as aspirin or ibuprofen.[3] Evidence does not support its use for acute...

I am a hospice patient and was prescribed 1 - 2 tylenol #3 every 4 hours. I was wondering if this is a strong opiate? I would like to be as comfortable as possible but also keep my mind active and alert. ## Tylenol 3 contains Acetaminophen and Codeine, which a very mild opiate. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Are you on any other medications? ## i have an emergency pack from hospice in the frig which contains morphine but i haven't taken anything from my care box yet

What pain meds can I use for joint pain? ## I'm allergic to codine and sulfa drugs. What can I take for lower back pain as well as all other joints. ## Hello, Binky! How are you? Only your doctor can prescribe an appropriate medication. However, there are quite a few options ranging from nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, like Meloxicam, to other opiates, such as Oxycodone or Dilaudid. As listed by the FDA, the NSAID are approved to treat pain, fever and swelling, so some people with joint pain do well with them. Their typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and stomach irritation. Opiates are used to treat pain, they carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mou...

hi, i am taking suboxone i would like to know if i take codeine with it would i feel the opiate? Also is it possible to go through withdrawals from codeine if on suboxone? ## more info please! 1) what dose are you on, how long have you been taking suboxone? 2) How much codeine we talking about? Are you meaning a dose to make you feel high? Or do you have a headache?! 3) what is your usage history? If you have been on Suboxone over a few days then dont take codeine as it will have no effect. It wont hurt you but wont do anything either as the suboxone will boot it out your receptors. You say 'would I feel it' which suggests to me you are looking to get high off the codeine. So the answer is 'No' unless you are on a very low dose and take a high codeine dose. I honestly wo...

I need help please. Severe pneumonia and cough. Can you take Suboxone with (Promethazine + Codeine)? Please I need relief fast, I'm so miserable. Thank you so much. ## Hi Shelly girl, the short answer is that No, you cannot take those together. Codeine, being an opiate, would pose a drug interaction with both the Buprenorphine AND Naloxone contained in Suboxone. Codeine w/ Buprenorphine could amplify central nervous system depression, leading to respiratory distress or even coma in extreme cases. Codeine w/ Naloxone can counteract each other causing withdrawal symptoms (nausea, vomiting, aches, fever, etc). Promethazine also interacts with Buprenorphine, and can increase certain side effects such as dizziness, confusion, drowsiness, etc. [1] That being said, I'd avoid taking the...

Pacofen (Milicod) (Codeine) ## Is milicod safe for breastfeeding mummy/baby? ## This drug is a pain reliever which contains Acetaminophen (Paracetamol), Caffeine, and Codeine. In the United States, similar brand names are Panlor and Trezix (the difference being they contain Dihydrocodeine Bitartrate as the opioid ingredient). Because of the Codeine inside this medication, "care should be used during breastfeeding as it may result in opiate toxicity in the baby". [1].

I want to take codeine but am allergic to morphine and I've heard that they are similar drugs. So I want to know if this is true, and if so, could I possibly die from that sort of reaction? ## Codeine and Morphine are two different drugs, but they are both opiate pain killers. Furthermore, when your body metabolizes the Codeine, it is converted into Morphine. In some patients, this may result in lethal blood levels ... Some people may have allergic reactions to codeine, such as the swelling of skin and rashes ... A potentially serious adverse drug reaction, as with other opioids, is respiratory depression. [1] You may very well be at risk of an allergic reaction and should work closely with your doctor to ensure that it would be safe to take. I hope this helps! Can you write back an...

My husband 6ft 279 pounds was left at the hospital labeled as JOHN DOE. As a result my husband died. The coroner office said the cause of death was Opiate Toxicity of Opiates. Which was morphine and codeine. Per the report it was 14.3ng/ML of morphine (Free) and less than 5ng/ML of codeine. I just don't understand how a person this size dies from morphine and codeine. From the information I have gathered this is not really a lot of meds compared to his size. The way my husband's death took place, nothing is adding up. My husband had a problem with illicit drugs not pain pills, so I'm clueless to what happened to my husband. Any input and/or information will help. ## Hello, Alicia! How are you? I'm having problems getting my prescriptions filled at cvs because the pharmacist doesn't feel comfortable filling it. I have been prescribed promethazineDM for over a year now but my allergies have been so bad I had to start getting the codeine instead of the DM. The pharmacist said that I have been prescribed the medication too much but this is only my 3rd prescription with the codeine and they all have only been 4oz each. The last time I had it filled at cvs has been over a month ago and they still won't fill it because they said I need refills or a bigger amount instead of bringing a new script every couple of weeks.. can someone please give me any advise it would be greatly appreciated. ## Codeine is an opiate narcotic, it is used to alleviate pain and will not actually...
