My mother brought to my attention that anything with the word "hydro" in any medication could be a narcotic. I have a family history of drug abusers and don't want to follow in their steps so I would appriciate it if someone could answer this clearly as possible for me. Thank you for your time. ## Hi Ghost - to answer your question, no, Bupropion Hydrobromide is not a narcotic. It is an antidepressant (in a different class of drugs). The term "Hydro" in this case is from chemistry and refers to a chemical compound of this medication. Wikipedia states "In chemistry, a hydrobromide is an acid salt resulting, or regarded as resulting, from the reaction of hydrobromic acid with an organic base (e.g. an amine). The compounds are similar to hydrochlorides." I imagi...

Do the light green bupropion pills help with opiate withdrawals? ## Bupropion is classifies by the FDA as an antidepressant that is also used to aid in smoking cessation. In order for it to work, it must be taken regularly for several weeks. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and insomnia. That said, no, it likely won't do much to help with withdrawals. I think you may be thinking of Buprenorphine, the active ingredient in Subutex and coupled with Naloxone in Suboxone. It is used to treat drug addition. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## They can help some. No...

I've been on Vicodin for years due to chronic pain. My Doc prescribed this for me and said it was ok to take together, but I'm not so sure - Any thoughts? ## Naltrexone can decrease the levels of Hydrocodone, since it blocks opiate receptors, while Bupropion increases the effect of it. But, it's likely that the Contrave will actually cancel out the Vicodin, making it ineffective for you. You may need to see your doctor and try something other than the Contrave, if you require opiate pain medications. The FDA has approved Contrave to aid in weight loss and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, anorexia, nervousness and insomnia. Vicodin is classifies as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, suc...

I've been on Contrave about a mouth twice daily (when I remember to take them) I forgot I wasn't supposed to and took one Percocet pill a short time ago for bad tooth ache. What can I expect to experience for side effects. I'm quite panicked right now ## There is no reason to panic, if you didn't suffer any adverse effects while taking it, then you should be fine. The main issue is that the Naltrexone can neutralize the Oxycodone in the Percocet, while the Bupropion tends to increase its effectiveness. Thus, if the Percocet helped you, then there should be nothing to worry about. However, it would be best to inform your healthcare provider, just in case. The FDA classifies Percocet as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side ef...

if i have been taking a 30 day supply of endocet and run out and then stop taking it after my last pill what will happen??? ## i would like to stop my bupropion xl tabs (300mg) i take one a day. what is the best way to do this, what are the side effects! ## what will happen if i stop taking medicine thyronorme 100mcg ## Regarding the Endocet, even though it is a narcotic, if you've only been taking it for 30 days, stopping it shouldn't result in any severe issues. You may experience some mild withdrawal symptoms, so it may be annoying for a few days, but they should pass fairly quickly. However, everyone is different, so this may not apply to you and if you suffer serious issues you should consult your doctor. The Bupropion works on brain chemicals, so if you've been taking i...

I am a truck driver and get random drug tests. Will Contrave make the test come back positive? ## It's possible depending on what is being checked, but the good news is that neither of the active ingredients in Contrave (bupropion/naltrexone) are considered a controlled substance. Here are some general guidelines: "A driver cannot take a controlled substance or prescription medication without a prescription from a licensed practitioner. If a driver uses a drug identified in 21 CFR 1308.11 (391.42(b)(12)) or any other substance such as amphetamine, a narcotic, or any other habit forming drug, The driver is medically unqualified.
