What are some of the medications used during the preliminary stage prior to having the pain pump installed? I was told a series of injections are administered with different medications (and mg's) to see what works best for me. This requires a 3-4 day hospital stay. I would then be scheduled to have the pump installed permanently. Thank you I'm currently prescribed 100mg MS Contin 4X daily 60mg oxycodone for BT pain. ## I'm not quite sure what all of the options are, there are quite a few different ones that can be used. One of the most common, however, is Dilaudid, which contains Hydromorphone. Learn more Dilaudid details here. It's a very potent narcotic opiate and is even used quite frequently in self-analgesia when someone is in the hospital and in pain. I had it in ...

Does anyone know if they are generous on the amount of meds they write ## Hello, Jerry! How are you? No doctor can be 'generous', so to speak. The DEA has set forth new regulations on what they can prescribe, why they can prescribe it and how much they can prescribe. Prescribing practices are heavily scrutinized and improper prescribing risks their losing their license to practice medicine, as well as fines and jail time. The only thing you can really do is set up an appointment, make sure they receive a full copy of your current medical records, then discuss your treatment options, at the appointment, without asking for any specific medications upfront. There are no guarantees that any doctor will prescribe anything. Is anyone familiar with this hospital?

Will hospital help when you lose a pain medication doctor. I'm in severe pain and extremely sick, it will take at least 6 weeks to get into pain management. I don't know what to do or where to go. Need help fast!!! Rhode Island ## Hello, Norma! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain. A hospital will usually only help if you are in severe withdrawal that may put you in danger and, even then, they will only treat you until you are stable. They will not prescribe medications for chronic pain, in most cases, due to the new directives issues by the DEA last year. How did you lose your doctor? ## My 17 yr old granddaughter passed away, I was shaking and lost one. Right before that happened I gave up my home because my husband and I have too much family living with us,...

i have degernative done disorder n crushed back n neck n need help w low cost doc that will help me w my pain ## Hello, Margie! How are you? I am so sorry that you're in pain. Unfortunately, I have no way of knowing what the doctors in that area charge for an office visit. If you require controlled substance medications on a long-term ongoing basis for the treatment of chronic pain, you'll need to see a pain management specialist, due to the new regulations that were put in place this year and they are not usually cheap. Do you have any large hospitals near you? If so, you could call and see if they have a social work department. The people in those departments keep lists of resources and doctors just to help people like you that don't have insurance. Does anyone know go a d...

Back in the hospital and the doctors are having a hard time finding an IV medication that will help lessen the chest pain from my pneumonia. I wear Fentanyl 75 mcg (changed every 72 hrs). Health issues; crps/rsd, ankylosing spondylitis, Arnold Chiari Malformation, Pudenal Neuralgia, are just the top my health issues. ## Hi Loveday, I don't know how much help this will be, but I was able to find a pretty extensive list of medications starting with "P". Perhaps one of the names on there might ring a bell?: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/drug_Pa.html If anyone else can post back with more information on other possibilities that would be great!

I have been taking Losartan 50 mg for treatment of high blood pressure approx. a year and half now, works on reducing blood pressure however about 4 months ago the muscles and joints in my arms stated hurting. My doctor has run various blood test and now sending me to Orthopediac doctor, I think it is the Losartan but he ignores my opinion that it could be the problem. Has any one else had this problem. ## Hi, John! It's not a typical side effect of Losartan, but I've had some of them cause very odd side effects in me, as well, so I have to say that it's possible. When I was in the hospital once they had me on an IV of Enalapril and it made me feel as if my whole spine was being twisted in a vice, I couldn't stand it. I have been seeing a pain management dr.since april and she gave me dilaudid2mg 5times a day, plus fiorinal for breakthrough pain. I have severechronic headaches and neck pain due to a pinched nerve. I also have degenerative disc in my lower back. I don't know what to do. will I have withdrawel problems from this?Thank You ,Sally ## Hello, SallY! How are you? If you stop taking them abruptly you may suffer some withdrawal effects. They can include nausea, diarrhea, rebound pain and chills. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi Vernwon,(hope I spelled it right), thanks for replying so quickly. I suppose the main concern is that will the withdrawals will put me in the hospital, have cardiac arrest or possibly go into a coma from not having the medications. I know all of this so...

moved to milw 8 months ago. have re-injured tailbone which was cracked few years ago. need pain meds and don't want to go through all the crazy tests (paying my own bills self employed) any clue? ## Hi, Lynn! Sorry about the pain that you're in, I really hate to see anyone miserable. However, it isn't likely that you're going to find a doctor to just prescribe you medications, without wanting you to have tests done, as well. Due to the new regulations that have been put in place, they must have a valid reason for prescribing such medications, if they don't, they risk losing their license to practice medicine. The best suggestion I can make is to contact your local hospital and ask them to connect you with their social work department. In many cases, they have lists o...

At the hospital with heart and chest pain. Already on a Fentanyl patch and its not working. Is there anything stronger than the Fentanyl patch? ## No, Fentanyl is really the strongest narcotic on the market, since it's over 80 times stronger than Morphine. However, there are medications they can give you that would work faster, but on that the relevant question is, what is causing the pain? ## I need a dr in Binghamton area for my medications fentanol and Percocet my dr went out with cancer and the other dr is not weighting he scripts for anyone any more new York Binghamton vestal plead help ## Ask at your hospital for the name of a Pain Specialist, or Rheumatologist. I’ve been taking Buspar about two years. I ran out while my doctor was on vacation and I noticed my legs were hurting and very weak. I was in the hospital about two weeks ago and I ran out again and was trying not to take buspar at all. I can barely walk!! My doctor gave me Requip. It knocks me out and does not seem to help. I guess I will start back on buspar. I don’t know what to do. ## It is possible that you are experiencing some withdrawal symptoms from stopping it abruptly. Buspar withdrawal symptoms could also include nausea, weight changes, mood changes, and rebound anxiety. Are you on any other medications? Have you consulted your doctor about possibly tapering off of it slowly?

After walking down a stretch of county hwy at the age of 14 , out of nowhere an old hull size ran truck hits me , throws me so many yards, finally landing on top of me, after being presumed dead. I was revived multiple times. i was told i would be brain dead, id never walk. It would be pure miracle if i were to even live. I've been on many pain medications in the past , but come to a point that i would try to deal with the pain cold turkey, big mistake.. Hydrocodone doesn't help nor does the 100's of over the counter medications I've tried. Being hospitalized and developing seizures over time because of scar tissue a monitor left on my brain, i still continue to break and fracture my back during seizure activity. I'm on Norspan 20mg patches (7 day release). I am scheduled to go for bariatric (gastric sleeve) surgery and was wondering what pain relief I can be given/ask for (Pethidine is obviously out as Norspan is an opiate antagonist, but tramadol may work, but is not as strong as pethidine) ## I'm really not sure what all is available for you to use. Have you discussed it with your doctor? It might be necessary for you to stop the Norspan for awhile, before surgery, so other pain medications can be used. In the U.S. in hospital settings, the most commonly used medication is Dilaudid, which contains the potent narcotic analgesic Hydromorphone:

DUE TO ILLNESS AND HOSPITALIZATION my Dr has taken a leave of absence from practice cancelled all appointments and refused any refills. I am only on hydrocodone 10mg 5x daily. This left me with nothing no refill to find a new dr or anything someone please help!!!! ## If you require such medications on a long-term ongoing basis for the treatment of pain, due to the new regulations that were put in place last year, you'll need to see a pain management specialist. I have been using Dextromethorphan 60mg Sr/ER for pain management. I was prescribed this medication, which is made in a compounding pharmacy by a doctor in California who is actively involved with the NIH(National Institute of Health. This pain management doctor uses off label medications, but is light years ahead of the traditional pain management doctor, who goes through their steps of the various epidural, nerve blocks, a multitude of other treatment that all the other pain management physicians practice, all the way up to a spinal cord stimulator or pump. I tried all of those treatments and was told no treatment remains, other than heavy narcotics, which do not work in the slightest for me. I heard about this doctor through my brother as I was in the hospital on a dialaudid drip for...

I need a pain doctor or pain clinic who doesn't require a referral, takes Medicare and Medicaid, who will prescribe my Xanax 2mg, Dilaudid 8mg, Roxy 30, Soma 350mg. I have my paperwork from the hospital state to take these meds. I need someone in Atlanta Ga, or Roswell Ga, Lwrncvil Ga. ## Hello, Cindy! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in pain. As to your medications, it is doubtful that you will find one doctor that will prescribe them all. Due to the new regulations that were put in place last year, you need to see a specialist, so for that list, you'll most likely need to see a pain management specialist, as well as a psychiatrist for the Xanax. These medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dr...

Looking for a Dr in Manatee or Pinellas county FL for pain management and anxiety. I was taking Xanax 2mg and 80mg OC but my original doctor moved to the VA hospital. I'm on SSI and need help. ## Hello Butterfly2ite! How are you? Due to the new regulations set forth by the DEA last year, you'll actually need to see two different specialists to have such medications prescribed, one for pain management and the other a psychiatrist. Do you currently have a PCP that could refer you to someone? That might be the quickest and easiest way to find the help you need. The FDA lists Xanax as being a benzodiazepine that is most commonly used to treat anxiety and nervous disorders. It carries the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache an...

It's sometimes used in birthing centers for pain as well and doesn't pose a danger to the fetus (well, not as opposed to some of the others...) ## Way to go! It is sometimes hard to remember what many of these are called. My husband just had surgery and it was hard for me to keep straight what medications he was given. Can methadone cause extreme gas and painful constipation so severe that thought I was going to have to go to the emer gency ward at hospital ## Hello, EJK! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem you experienced. Yes, narcotics can cause those as side effects in some people that take them, but that severity isn't common. It would be best to have it checked out by your doctor, to be sure. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and dry mouth. This medication also carries the risk of being habit forming. Are you on any other medications? ## I was on methadone for many years. Every few months I would experience extreme constipation. I knew I needed to go but couldn't. It was frustrating and the stomach pains were horrible. I dra...
