My doctor changed my meds from Morphine 80 mgs tid to 50 mgs oxycodone tid along with liquid 5 mgs as required. Why would she do this? I had lymphoma. ## I am sorry, but only your doctor can answer that question. However, I can tell you that Oxycodone is stronger than Morphine, so they may have thought it would help you more than the Morphine. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Have you asked her why she made the change?

My daughter had surgery. They put her on 15 mg morphine ER. One tablet every 12 hours. Within five hours she's in pain. Pain level reaches an eight on a scale of 1 to 10. Into hour eight. Called the doctor because I only have three more morphine pills left. They gave her oxycodone mg. take 1-2 pills every 6 hrs. My question is, she has 5/325 percocets from another surgery. Is it ok to give her a 1/4 of the Percocet with ( 1 ) mg of oxycodone? ## Hello, Sue! How are you? It would be best not to, unless her doctor okays it, because there is also Oxycodone in the Percocet and you could risk overdosing her. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth a...

I am new to this fourm, and I have a few questions someone may be able to answer. I have chronic back pain as a result of Cauda Equina Snydrome, and an injury at L5/S1. My Pain Mgt doc made a med change about 3 wks ago. I was one taking Oxycodone 15 MG tablets, but I was still having a LOT of breakthrough pain. As of 3 wks ago, my doc ADDED Morphine Sulf 15 MG's SRT. The combination of the two meds appears to be working but there are still some minor pain issues. I spoke with my doc the other day and we will talk again on Feb 2nd. He told me he thinks going to the 15 MG Morphine Sulf every 8 hrs, vs 12 hrs will help. He also wanted to see if I could go to 10 MG's of Oxycodone as needed 8 hrs, vs 15 MG's of Oxycodone as needed every 8 hrs. In sum, the 15's MG's of Mor...

I find it ridiculous that sooo many people are messing around with schedule II narcotics yet have no clue to the potency, side effects, drug interactions, etc.. are you people not adults? Oxy is indeed a good 1.5% stronger than morphine and not at all subtle like morphine.. Most doses of Oxy that are between 15-30 mg are IR's not ER (extended release like most morphine)... SO BE CAREFUL AND FOR YOUR LIFE'S SAKE! DO SOME SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH BEFORE POPPING YOUR PILLS LIKE CANDY!! 60 mg of oxy in one release can stop your breathing! ## Hello, Nobody! Thank you for the warning you have posted for others. However, I do want to correct one point. The only instant release Oxycodone available is a 5mg capsule. Anything greater than 5mgs is regular release or time released. This is a nar...

I was on 5 30mg of oxycodone ir after doing some reading after you have more than 120mg in your system the rest is not helping you it's just loading your system up and your asking for long term problems my dr. Has since put me on 3 30mg oxycodone and one 30mg morphine extended release for nighttime and that seems to be the magic for me, it helps the hard pain during the day and at night lets your system calm down when I'm sleeping. ## even though oxycodone is 1.5 x stronger than morphine, if you take an equivalent dose of mophine sulfate (90 m. vs. 60 oxy), will you still develop the same tolerance/addiction/dependency from the morphine as from the oxycodone? ## Great Gw! I am very glad that you found a combination that works so well for you. And yes, potentialaddict, you would ...

I have been in pain management for years, lost my doctor along with other patients, and primary won't fill or says she can't and messes up my progress to get in new pain management in time. Now I'm losing Soma, was 3 times a day, now I have 7 tabs left. Was on 45 mg of morphine 3 times, oxycodone 15s and xanax 5 mg 3 times a day. Which she said she can not write for. Why, if she knew or thought this pain clinic was prescribing more than standard, did she never say a word until i had to go to her in desperation for this? Your primary that has to refer you and get info to get into a new pain clinic, I have very serious health issues no one is dealing with, I feel alone and suicidal. I take 60mg of Morphine 3x daily + 10/325 mg Oxycodone/Acetaminophen daily. My cancer is getting worse. Any ideas? ## Hello, Chuck! How are you feeling? I'm very sorry that your cancer isn't improving. Many cancer patients end up requiring a very potent narcotic, such as Fentanyl. It's available in a patch that you wear on your skin and change every 48 to 72 hours, so that may be something to discuss with your doctor. It was actually specifically created to help cancer patients. Does anyone know if 2 15mg morphine tabs would be equal to 1 30mg oxycodone. Both are immediate release. I have been on the 30's but due to my upcoming surgery my Dr. feels that I need stronger pain med's. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. ## Actually, the Oxycodone is one and a half time stronger than Morphine, so to equal 30mgs of the Oxycodone would require 45mgs of the Morphine. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Could u tell me if oxycodone ir and morphine ir appear as the same thing on a drug panel? ## How long does 15mg morphine stay in sysyem ## Lord please let those that abuse their pills or medications be taken off their meds. 1. I now take15 mg morphine sulfate TID which makes me sleepy and does not handle my pain, plus up to 10/325 oxycodone 4xday to handle pain. (orig. on 30 mg morphine sulfate + oxy, and reduced at my request due to sleepiness) 2. 10/325 mg oxycodone taken alone 4xday is effective 80 or so % of the time in treating my pain, and does not cause sleepiness. Why the difference? My pain mgmnt physician wants me to rely more on the morphine sulfate. Thank you so much. ## While they are both narcotics, their base chemical structure is different and may affect any given person differently. I had the same problem with Morphine, I could barely ever stay awake, while taking it, however, Oxycodone makes me a bit drowsy, but works much better for me. I am currently taking 60mg of morphine sulfate ER twice a day and 30 mg of oxycodone HCL four times a day. For some reason I came up short one morphine on the last day of my prescription, so I only have one I can take instead of two until I get my new script tomorrow morning. Instead of taking the last morphine this morning, I waited and took it around 4pm tonight. Will I have withdrawl symptoms from missing a dose of Morphine, but continuing to take the oxycodone 30mg? ## If you didn't have any during the interim, where you didn't take it until much later, then no, you should be fine. However, if you do, they'd be mild and may include rebound pain, diarrhea, dizziness and fever, as listed by the FDA. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the ...

I came across a pill that was supposed to have 15mg oxycodone and 15mg morphine in same pill. It is round white with 262 on one side, and what looks like a crescent moon design or whatever on the other side. What is it, and is the above pill even manufactured? ## There is no such combination pill in the U.S. What your tablet contains is 15mgs of Oxymorphone, it is not a combination of both, but it is a narcotic analgesic. Side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and dry mouth. Learn more: Is there anything else I can help with? ## Its actually called oxymorphone is the name of it. ## Umm I'm a little late but oxymorphone contained both oxycodone and morphine!!! 12 years ago I was in a really bad accident. I woke up with 6 broken vertabrae, 11 more that we were told are consuidered the equivalent of severely stress fractured, my cocyx had been removed, my frontal lobes partially seperated, "no functional balance mechanisms" a damaged right hip and two shattered knees. And a bunch of mush more minor injuries. For some people, me for one, any of the codones, including oxycodone, is virtually useless. For severe chronic pain, it is my experience that there is quite simply, no substite foir pure morhne sulphate. I take the stuff only when I hurt to the point that I just have to have some relief. In 12 years I have yet to become addicted to the stuff. I don't suffer from nausea, or constipation, or anything else. I follow a strictly orga...

I've read no, but that your liver metabolizes it as morphine? Bottom line - does it contain morphine and what is the difference between contain and metabolize as?? ## No, it does not contain Morphine, Oxycodone contains Oxycodone, a different type of narcotic opiate. Some of the metabolites are similar, but not the same and lab work will be able to distinguish the difference. As a narcotic, it may cause side effects, such as: nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and constipation. What it contains would be the active ingredient, the metabolites are what appears on lab work after it has been processed through the body. Are there any other questions? ## I am an elderly male , 2 years ago I had a fall and badly fractured my neck after my operation I was told for chronic pain to take a 5mg Edone...

i have been taking oxycodone due to a back injury and i was told that it is morphine based, so i was wondering if that was true? ## its in that family, opiates/pain reliever and highly addictive ## Yes, it is related, just like Lisa has stated. It carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. What dosage has been prescribed? Have you ever taken Morphine? Are you on any other medications?

what is the difference beween morphine 15mg and oxycodone 10-325mg ## Hello, Brenda! How are you? For pain relieving efficacy, these doses are roughly equivalent. However, Morphine and Oxycodone are two different narcotics. While both have been proven effective, one sometimes works better for some people than another. Being coupled with the Acetaminophen can also make the Oxycodone work better for some people, so they can take a lower dose of it and still achieve adequate pain relief. The FDA classifies both of these medication as being narcotic analgesics. So they carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation and dry mouth. You have to remember that only you and GOD can shake him off. Along with a good support system you can get rid of any addiction, just always remind yourself that you are strongger than any drug that man can make. My doctor prescribed Morphine Er Tab 30mg and Oxycodone 10mg My question is does this medication have any serious side effects? Having never taken anything like this, I was concerned when I saw the word "morphine", so any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. ## All medications carry the risk of side effects, the relevant factor, though, is to discuss with your doctor whether any possible benefits to you outweigh the risks. Morphine and Oxycodone are both narcotic analgesics and both of them can be habit forming, even if you don't abuse them and only use them as prescribed. They share a common side effect profile, which may include: nausea, drowsiness, constipation and dry mouth.
