I am taking benicar along with atenalol for high blood pressure. Why do I need to take both. Can I just take one. I am trying to reduce my dependency on drugs ## Hello, Elanda! How are you? How high is your blood pressure? That is what the answer is dependent on. If it was very high, then multiple medications are quite often used to help lower it as fast as is safely possible and, once blood pressure is back under control, medications can be removed, or dosages lowered, as appropriate. Do you also watch what you eat to maintain a low-fat, low-sodium diet? ## Thanks for your reply. Normally my blood pressure is around 140/ 80 range. I started with atenalol and the Benicar was added later. Not sure why. I do watch my salt intake and try to watch what I eat.

It's something like a pinched nerve. ## Arthritis and a pinched nerve are 2 very different conditions. Which one has your doctor said the pain is due to? What medication do you take for your blood pressure? If you have high blood pressure, then as warned by the NIH, you should not take any medication, unless your doctor approves. Some medications, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, can cause elevated blood pressure and fluid retention.

So, when hypertension is a misread diagnosis and Losartan is prescribed, fluid retention occurs. HCTZ is added to no avail then doubled. Retention continues. Before Losartan, BP avg to 160/100. After, 160/90. HCTZ added, 140/90. HCTZ doubled, 110/87. Remove Losartan and HCTZ, 130/80. A misdiagnosis can be deadly. Not understanding your med cocktail is just as deadly. Mine was a case of hyper-vigilance brought on by bad medication complex. Doctors miss this daily. I tried with 6 doctors who kept going with the hypertension conclusion. Once I stopped the bad medications, I was fine. Don't always trust a doctor to be correct. They don't always have the time to do the correct research. Do your homework. It's your body. If the patient is being treeated for hypertension should she take this medication? ## Has the patients doctor advised them that the medication is necessary? Also, what other medications are they taking? Doxycycline is an antibiotic that is used to treat, or prevent infections. If their doctor approves, then they should take it, because the ramifications and health risks of leaving an infection untreated can be far more severe than the risks of using the medication. However, this does not apply if it is contraindicated with other health conditions, or other medications.

Causes dizzyiess when taken in AM. Can it be taken before bed? Can it be cut in half? ## This contains the active ingredient Amlodipine, it is a calcium channel blocker that is used to treat hypertension and other cardiac conditions. As long as it isn't time released, it can be cut in half safely, however, you shouldn't adjust your dosage, without consulting with your doctor. For these medications, most doctors prescribe them once daily, in the morning and the reason they do so it to get you in the habit of taking them, so you don't forget and to allow the medication to work and control your blood pressure and heart rate during your most active times of day. However, there can be some drawbacks to this. One, which you've already discovered is that it can cause dizziness,...

Can I use Jadelle whilst I am on BP medications Enalapril 20 mg and Ridaq 12.5mg once a day? ## Has your doctor approved your using it? Since it contains only a form of Progesterone and it does not usually cause blood pressure issues in most women. It's usually the ones that contain estrogen that cause blood pressure and heart rate elevations, according to FDA reports. However, the final decision is always up to you and your doctor as to its safety for you. I've been taking Losar-H in the morning and Losar-50 & Attorlib EZ at night for the last 5 years, and my BP has been 120/80 since then. I am 55 year old male. Can theses medications be stopped, as I feel my condition is normal and I could do without them? ## The issue that you may run into is that your blood pressure may only be at a normal level, because you're taking the medications. So, there are two problems that could occur if you stop taking them. The first is a rebound effect, which can cause severely elevated heart rate and blood pressure. Thus, these types of medications usually have to be slowly tapered, to prevent this. And the second is that your blood pressure may steadily start rising again. There is usually no cure for hypertension, it can only be controlled b...

However, he complains that if he takes Paracetamol it makes him sleepy and also causes retching (bile). Is this a common reaction, and if so which painkiller would be suitable for his arthritis? ## Yes, those can be normal side effects of Paracetamol/Acetaminophen, he may also experience headache and stomach irritation. It's really difficult to know what else he could take, without knowing the other medications he is on.
