I have a bulging disc at L2 and its pressing on my spinal cord nerve which is very painful. I have a primary care, very conservative, and she gave me hydrocodone 5 mg until I can see neurosurgeon. That's going to be a few weeks and I have a very physical job and the med she prescribed isn't helping. Does my condition warrant something stronger? I feel like a drug seeker asking, but I really need something to get me through the night so I can sleep without pain. ## Hydrocodone and Acetaminophen are the active ingredients in Vicodin, which is a narcotic pain reliever. As to requesting something else, it isn't your job that makes it warranted, it is the pain level you experience. If this medication isn't strong enough, then you should contact your doctor and let her know. A...

I GOT THIS MED FOR A CHECK INFECTION LAST YEAR. WHY CAN'T MY PHARMACIST FIND IT NOW AND HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO CHERATUSSION AC SYRUP? ## The Hydrocodone APAP shows that it also contains Acetaminophen with the narcotic, this type of syrup/suspension is usually given to treat cough, fever and pain. The only thing it would do for an infection is treat the pain and fever that it may cause, it wouldn't actually treat the infection itself. The Cheratussin AC contains Codeine and Guaifenesin, so it isn't the same, because this would be used mostly to treat cough and cold symptoms. Your pharmacist should be able to find the Hydrocodone/APAP, but do you actually have a prescription for it, or are you just asking them to find it? If you're just asking about it, they may not be giv...

My 14 year old daughter has terrible pain because of infection in her tooth. She has on going problems with her teeth because of a dental disease she has. It is the weekend and we ran out of the usual pain med prescribed. The dentist is impossible to contact. So... I wondered if it would be safe to give her hydrocodone as an alternative. She weighs 120 lbs. ## Hello, Melissa! How is she doing? Hydrocodone is actually a narcotic, so it's just not safe to give it to her, without a doctor's approval. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. What was she taking for it? When will she be seeing her dentist? ## We finally got her out of the pain once her antib...

My husband takes the Hydrocodone/Apap 5-500MG Tablet by Mallinckrodt. When we went to a different drug store, they gave us Hydrocodone/Apap 10-325. The drug store says it's the same as Hydrocodone/Apap 5-500MG. This can't be true? ## Well, no, obviously not, this is clearly a different dosage of the medication. The first tablet he was receiving contained 5mgs of the narcotic Hydrocodone and 500mgs of Acetaminophen. The new one contains 10mgs of the Hydrocodone and only 325mgs of Acetaminophen, so it is completely different and not equivalent at all. The higher dose of the narcotic could cause more severe side effects, such as: drowsiness, nausea, dizziness and constipation. In addition, it could cause him to build a tolerance or addiction faster, and when he does get the other p...

What is the shelf life of these pills? 12, 18, 24 Months? I do understand like all other products, they do lose their potency. ## Once they have been removed from the originally factory sealed bottle and exposed to the elements, then the expiration date is one year. If they are still in the original factory sealed bottle, then the expiration date is 3 years from the date of manufacture. Are there any other questions? ## Thank you, I'll be throwing these pills out ## I believe they say you can keep them for 3 years, that is if they are sealed from the manufacturer. Personally I wouldn't wouldn't worry too much about a month more or less. Heat and light may affect stength. ## I have a 500 mg vicodine that expired in 02/08/2013. It is a year and 6 months old. Can u still use it...

Can I use this drug for tooth pain? ## ask ur doctor ## Have you discussed it with your dentist? While Hydrocodone with Acetaminophen, the active ingredients in Vicodin, is an effective narcotic pain reliever that is often given for toothaches, it is not going to help with whatever the problem is that is causing the toothache. It is just a temporary solution. Side effects may include: nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and constipation. Learn more: ## The dosage you have is one of the higher doses available, so I wouldn't doubt that it would help with the pain (as it is used to treat moderate to severe pain); but whether or not it is the best option for your situation is not something anyone online can answer. For this reason I agree with Sherry that you should consult your doctor before ...

I have some Hydrocodone 5mg/500mg they expired 2009 would they still be ok to take? ## This medication which is a generic for Vicodin doesn't get dangerous once it's past the expiration date, but it does lose effectiveness, so after 3 years, they aren't likely to do much in the way of pain relief. Learn more Vicodin details here. The best thing to do would be to dispose of them and see your doctor for a new prescription. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I used hydrocodone liquid form from 2009. How long is the expiration for that. Can't find the bottle now. ## Not true. The Military just did tests on the efficacy of drug like this, and they all lasted about 80 YEARS. No kidding. Look that up. If stored properly, the efficacy should be the exact same even after ...

Can medication listed in title cause liver (Bilirubin) increases? My Bilirubin labs have been coming back at at 1.6-1.9. Can it be harmful in the long run? ## The APAP is medication speak for Acetaminophen and it is very well known that long-term use of it can have detrimental effects on the liver. Have you spoken to your doctor about it? If you require a narcotic analgesic, you may need to switch to something that doesn't have the Acetaminophen in it. ## Get off that crap. Acetaminophen will destroy your liver. You're getting 5 mg hydro & 500 acetaminophen. They make percocets in low doses and with no acetaminophen. It is in the oxycodone family... but it is usually not teamed with acetaminophen. ## What are the long term implications of taking Hydrocodone? Has anyone taken...

I want to know if I can give my 11-year-old daughter who is 76-78 lbs. a Hydrocodone APAP 5mg 500 mg because she broke her thumb (doctor put a splint on) and it is throbbing. Doc just told us give her Ibuprofen but that's not helping so much tonight. Thank you ## Have you tried asking her doctor? The Hydrocodone is a narcotic, so I wouldn't suggest giving it to any child, unless a doctor has specifically instructed you to do so. ## I would not suggest giving your daughter hydrocodone 5/500 the Tylenol dose for her weight is to much . I would agree with your doctor according to her weight she should take 3.5 tsp of children's Motrin. The reason for having pain at nighties she is most likely not elevating her hand on a pillow. If her hand is below her heart this will cause pai...

how many pills is this eqiulent to ## Hi John, The milliliters (ML) refers to the size of the container, or dosage, but doesn't provide enough information to answer your question.
