I got this prescribed for a tooth abscess i took two in desperation but i feel my pain has increased since taking it...wtf seriously this is confusing i was hoping to get some sleep instead i am in major pain... don't have time to go to dr during day bc of work ## Hello, Iza! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in so much pain. It just might not be the right medication to alleviate your pain, not every medication works for every person that tries it. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Are you also on an antibiotic? ## Yes penicillin, i noticed that the pain med takes about 5 hours and then my mouth is numb however ... ...

I've been prescribed hydro/acetaminophen 5 325 for back pain. I have taken it a few times since prescribed and felt nothing but hot flashes. Is there something wrong with me ## Hello, Egg! How are you? No, that doesn't necessarily mean that anything is wrong with you, not every medication works for everyone that tries it, that's why there are usually several to pick from in any given therapeutic category. You just may need to discuss it with your doctor and possibly try a different medication. The FDA classifies it as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ...

Does this raise my blood sugar? I just ended oxycodene and started hydrocodone. My sugars are running extremely high over 400. Is this med causing this. ## Hello, Sandy! How are you? No, it doesn't usually have an effect on blood sugar levels, except for occasionally masking the symptoms of low blood sugar, as reported by the FDA. Its typical side effects usually include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. It also carries the risk of being habit forming. Are you on any other medications? Has anything changed in your diet recently? ...

i do not get relief from this pain medicine, what is the deal ## Hi baby, Unfortunately when it comes to choosing an appropriate pain medication, there's a lot of room for trial and error. If your body is accustomed to another manufacturer's versions of this, then its ineffectiveness may be attributed to the different binders/fillers that are being used in this particular tablet versus others. That's my theory anyways, given that nothing else is changed on the label when you switch between different manufacturer's brands/generics. The only thing I'd encourage patients to do in light of this, is to kindly ask the doctor to be more descriptive on the prescription he/she writes, in order to pick out a specific manufacturer that you feel works best from past personal exp... ...

I'm sorry, but this website does not manufacture, prescribe, nor sell any medications or products, it is an information only resource. Since the medication you want to take is a controlled substance, you will need a doctor's prescription. My doctor changed my medication from Lortab 7.5 500 to Norco 7.5 325, but now i'm super sleepy for about 2 hours now. Any answers ? ## It might be a slight withdrawal effect, due to the lower amount of Acetaminophen, because it potentiates the Hydrocodone. It usually takes about a week or so, for your body to adjust. However, if it continues past that, or worsens, you should consult your doctor. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Its been about 1 1/2 months, but I just found out. The lower the apap the higher Hydrocodone, that's what's make me sleepy now. If you take 1 tylenol with it - it reduces the... ...

Hydrocodone is Great for pain after a root canal! ## Hi Bob, Glad to hear that the Hydrocodone is really helping your pain. From what I hear, the combination of Hydrocodone + Acetaminophen seems to be a common choice for many post operative dental procedures. I believe 10mg is also highest you can get for this particular medication, so I'm guessing the pain is probably pretty severe without this high of a dose. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Vicodin Details Did your dentist let you know how long the pain is expected to last? ...

My daughter has been taking hydrocodone 5/325 every 4 hrs since Thurs afternoon. 24 hrs ago, her dr moved it to every 6 hrs, and she took her last one at 615pm last night (it's now 1250a). Can you switch to extra strength, OTC acetaminophen now (500mg tabs)? Or should we wait longer after her last hydrocodone dose? Please advise. Thank you! ## You can take up to 3000mg of acetaminophen in a 24hr period. Anymore than that should be under a doctor's care/advice. ## According to the FDA, their 'liver warning' goes by a maximum daily dosage of 4,000 mg within a 24-hour period. This is not to say that you shouldn't consult with your doctor first, but it should allow for substantial flexibility in your dosing. If you're currently taking 1300mgs a day (325mgs four times... ...

how many can you take,1-2 tablets every4-6 hours as needed Can you take more if pain is still extreme after 3 hours ## Hi Grammy, There are a number of reasons why I wouldn't advise taking anything more than what is recommended by your doctor. However, if you feel that what you were prescribed just isn't strong enough, a higher dosage may be something to discuss at your next appointment. While I do know patients who have taken more than this without experiencing repercussions, it's important to understand that everyone responds differently based on their tolerance as well as other individual factors. And due to the high risk of liver damage, it also doesn't seem like a good idea to take more than 325mg of Acetaminophen in one sitting on a regular basis. With that said, a... ...

Took for pain in back and iam having bladder. Problems comes slowly out could this come from this pill. ## Hello, Eddy! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. Yes, narcotics can sometimes cause that, but it would be best to have it checked out, to be sure of the cause, in case it is unrelated to the medication. The FDA lists this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I recently went to the dentist because I've been having severe tooth pain causing a pain to shoot up from my tooth to my head. The dentist said I had an infection due to my wisdom teeth being taken out& it caused the tooth to move& cause bacteria to go in. My question is he prescribed me the hydrocodone/acetaminophen 5-325 TB to be taken every 6 hours for pain but the pain& amoxicillin. Can I take 2 dose of the hydrocodone because one is not cutting it? ## Hello, Kammy! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in pain. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and, if you aren't tolerant to it, you could overdose. Additionally, you have to be very careful abo... ...

I've been approximately 10 years on hydrocodone acetaminophen 10-500. It now has been changed to Hydrocodone-acetaminophen 10-325 without any consultation. What would be the reason for the change and will it attack the pain the same? Thank you. Todd ## All prescription tylenol combinations medications had to reduce the amount of tylenol to no more than 325 mg in Jan 2014. The FDA has even taken action to withdraw the approval for prescription meds that have more than 325 mg tylenol. The decrease in tylenol may or may not make any difference to you. Some drs are telling their patients to add 1 regular strength tylenol to the prescription meds, if they need it. Just be sure to keep track of how much tylenol you take in a 24 hrs period and don't let it exceed 4,000 mg in a 24 hr pe... ...

I have the worst neck pain. I think it is from sleeping wrong. I have a prescription for the hydrocodone acetaminophen 10 325 tab for a hip pain months ago. I took one pill today and it did nothing. I hope you've managed to find some sort of relief since you posted this thread. As far as double dosing is concerned, no one but your Dr. can legally tell you what is or isn't safe for you to take, based on their clinical evaluation. I will go so far as saying that I know people who have done this and didn't have a problem with the additive effects from doing so... But everyone reacts and responds to these drugs differently, so in s... ...

I use it for pain relief after lumbar spinal fusion for L5-S1. My pain is in the right leg this time and is worse at night. Why doesn't the med relieve pain at night ## Hi Lil, Sorry to hear about your challenges with pain management. From your description, it sounds to me like you may just require a stronger medication overall, or possibly something else that can be used as an adjunctive therapy to what you're already taking for pain relief. In either case, this is something best discussed with your doctor or health-care provider, who can suggest and offer other types of treatment options for you during those peak hours of worsening pain. The increased pain at night could simply be an indication that you're beginning to build up a tolerance to this medication's effects.... ...
