I have been taking it for 25 years I want to change to xanax. ## Hello, Angie! How are you doing? After having been on it for such a long period of time, a careful tapering schedule is most likely going to be needed to prevent your having withdrawal issues and rebound effects. Have you talked to your doctor about it? They should be able to help you discover a tapering schedule that will work for you and minimize any possible problems.

Benzo's are a wonder drug for cetain disorders--You can very easily get dependant and stopping abruptly can lead to seizures. Please see a physician who you trust if you think you are getting mentally dependent. You are already physically dependent. People- benzo's ( valium, librium ,xanax ,ativan, klonipin, etc) are not a good drug to get hooked on. ## I have been taking 6 mil of Klonopin for almost 6 years and I want to get off of it but I don't know how to wean myself off of it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. Beverly ## Please see your doctor before trying to stop any prescription drug, some drugs can have severe adverse effects if you stop them too abruptly.

Trying to taper off xanax or get some in Chicago area. Any help? What doc will help me? ## From what I could gather, Dr. Zabrin Inan is a psychiatrist in Chicago, IL who seems to have a track record that many online reviewers describe as someone who is "pill happy". The phone number to her office is 773-752-6000. I would think someone like this should be able to prescribe you a comfortable amount to taper off with over several weeks time. None the less, if you suffer from anxiety and need a Benzodiazepine class medication (like Xanax), usually your best bet is to see a psychiatrist, rather than a regular medical doctor. Reason being is that they are better trained in the types of medications that handle these problems and many general physicians are reluctant to prescribe contro...

I've been going to the hell clinic (methadone) for a lil over 5 yrs. I had 6 take homes for most of that time. I told them i wanted to go down 2 mgs a day. They said i wanted to go down too fast & I'd be "unstable" so they took away ALL my take homes. I told them to start taking me down 5 a day then instead of 2 mgs. I only have 2 more days to go. I don't want to start old pill habits, but will taking Lortabs or small amounts of Morphine help with the withdrawals? I'm taking xanax (prescribed) & lots of vitamins & vit c. & of course Immodium. Just wanna know if taking small amounts of lortab &/or Morphine will help a lil with the withdrawals off Methadone? I've came down A LOT in the past cpl wks. Any advice is very appreciated. Thx! ## He...

I am now into my 4th day off of suboxane. The side effects are getting better. I used .5mg xanax, sometimes I took up to four the first two days off of suboxane. By the end of this week, I feel I should be OK. I am Taking 3 , .5mg of xanax throughout the day and night at the moment. I want to begin to taper off xanax.. What can I expect for side effects from the w/drawl, how fast should I go so that I don't hurt myself. Somepeople seem to have no effects...I doubt I will be THAT lucky! Any suggestions? I DO NOT want to see a DR because I am afraid they will put me on something else. The DR is the one who started all this in the first place due to an arm injury 2yrs ago and oxycotin RX's. So you can see why I am a little leary of the people in the " white coats." I just w...

I am wanting to taper off safely from using 6mg of xanax bars a day. I am addicted and went through the worse withdrawals when I couldn't find my last 9 left in my bottle as well as my bottle missing. I just want a chart to show me how to taper off per say take 2 mg , 2nd one take 1.75, last one take 1.50 mg..how to do it in a timely manner. ## Many posts here and on the Interne!. Look it up. 6 mg is nothing to play around with, and you should never run out and always have extras if possible? ## Hello, Kev! How are you? Unfortunately, there is no specific chart that anyone can give you. Tapering off successfully depends on the person, the dosage and how long they've been taking the medication. Have you consulted your doctor? They should be able to help you work out a tapering sc...

I feel led to share with you guys my nightmare journey with Xanax. I have been taking it for well over 15 years. Sometimes, I would take quite a bit during some very rough situations in my life. I tried to stop a year ago and ended up in the Emergency Room of our local hospital. I asked my doctor for help getting off this nightmare drug, but she just said "taper" off. Finally I read different blogs of people who have stopped and became really inspired. You all know the horror of this drug. I had serious headaches, nightmares and memory problems to the max. This drug gives you ANXIETY. I am down to one half of a 1mg quarter and about to stop altogether as I cannot take the nightmares. This horrible drug, caused me to make very poor decisions during the past years. I lost of all m...

Yes-what is the major difference between these 2 meds? I have taken xanax for several years. I'm thinking abt. changing to Buspar. Can you switch meds like these without tapering off the xanax. Does Buspar help w/ Panic attacks? ## Hi, I wanted to address the panic attacks you are experiencing. Often panic attacks and anxiety are the body's natural reaction to telling us something has gone wrong that needs to be addressed. It is usually some form of trauma that has happened in our life that creates the panic attacks and anxiety. Medication numbs the symptoms but do not address the root of the problem. Have you considered going into therapy to see what is causing the panic attacks and anxiety? ## buspar is suppose to be taken everyday its taken to level u out....zanax are suppose...

Has anyone heard of the Ashton Method as a way to detox off of benzodiazepenes? I know it is more popular in the UK. I’m trying to find a USA psychiatrist who follows this method. A lot of people have had success coming off without losing their minds in withdrawal. ## My dr. Did a similar approach. Switching me to Valium instead of Xanax and then we got 1mg, .5mg and .25mg compounded so I could make very small tapers. It was the only thing that worked for me after trying to come off on my own unsuccessfully. Dr. Royble at True Life Center in San Diego. There are also some groups that help you to micro taper on your own diluting the pills with liquid. ## I'm looking for one also.

I am try ing to get off suboxoneand xanax. I am taking about 1/8 of a 2mg suboxane 2 x a day and down to 1 .5mg xanax a day. I am getting blurred vision, confusion, anxiety, trouble sleeping. Tremors, When I take a little more suboxone, it goes away. I was down to 1/2a .5mg xanax and 1/4 to less of a suboxone a day, but the withdrawls from the suboxone ocurred w/in 2-3 days. diarrhea, sweats, anxiety, How do I gat off this with the least affects? ## Geographic location is Florida, I have been on Suboxone and Xanax for over a year and a half. Just want to know best way to stop taking it without the scary side-effects with the vision and tremors. ## The Buprenorphine in the Suboxone is a very potent narcotic, so it does require a very, very slow taper to stop taking it and avoid the bad w...

Help!!! I am an elderly lady who has been taking Xanax in what I thought were the smallest doses for insomnia and addiction. Now, I am aware that my habituation/addiction seems to have taken over my life. I have read a lot about titrating but hopefully need a buddy to help me through this. I don't know where to turn. My doctor said she would help me, but I don't know if she had any experience. I thought I might shift from Xanax to Valium but I have no idea how to do that! ## If you google benzos or such there is a doctor who recommended switching to valium and then tapering off that. However, most people today more currently would recommend just tapering off. theroadback.org offers a free online book also if you email them they will help you (very brief help but the book is grea...

XANAX - ALPRAZOLAM Is it safe to take a prescribed low dose like 0.5 3x day long term? Is it low enough to not make a withdrawl problem if I stop it suddenly? I need something besides fluoxetine-prozac to calm me but I do not want to take any risk of impaired memory or any other side effects? ## jkl ## This is a tricky question in the sense that every medication is going to effect each individual differently; however from a general point of view, taking such a small dose in order to taper off is a good thing. Personally, I would consider attempting it for a given number of days just to see how you react; and only if it becomes unbearable due to any sudden onset of symptoms or reactions, will you know whether or not you should up the dose a little bit and taper off at a more gradual pace...

Which one should I try to kick first? Also, how do I taper off 125 mg daily of methadone? Right now, I'm down to five 1mg xanax. ## It can really vary from person to person. The modern method to taper off of any medication is usually to have the person gradually lower their dose while skipping days, at the same time, so you lower it, while spacing your doses further and further apart. The FDA does warn that both of these medications carry the risk of being habit forming, and may cause withdrawal effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, fever, chills, vomiting, and tremors. Have you consulted a medical professional? That would be the best way to find the tapering method safest for you.

Help please! I am a 57 yr old Totally and Permanently USAF Vet. The VA Hosp I Want to do my Hip Replacement is the Wade Park VAMC in Cleve. My Medical Probs are severe and lengthy, but my only Psych need is for my increasingly-severe Panic Attacks, and my Anxiety Disorder, which had responded well to Xanax 1mg. However, in its ever-lasting quest to make a junkie of no one, The VA Dr here in SC recently tapered me off of my Xanax. In just over a month, I am moving back to the Warren-Y'town area (my locale for 40 yrs and then some) for a min of a year and a half to address the Phys. Stuff incl major Surgery. I am so far unable to find a Dr there who'll write the Xanax. I can drive around up there but no more than say 20mi each way fm Warren. Help! ## Look for a website like this o...

Any way to get off subs after at least 15 years of being a slave to them? Don't get me wrong, being strung out on opiates or anything like that is much worse, but I'm pretty sick of relying on a f***ing pill to keep me well. I'd like to have another baby someday. What have I gotten myself into?? ## Hello, Red! How are you? Both of these medications usually require a very slow taper to successfully come off of them and prevent the worst of the withdrawal symptoms. The FDA lists some typical withdrawal symptoms as possibly including nausea, dizziness, rebound pain, rebound anxiety and diarrhea. You also have to be very careful not to stop the Xanax cold turkey, because that can create the risk of seizures. What has your doctor advised? What dosage do you take of each? ## I nee...

are the ingedence in xanax and kolinpin the exect same or there diffrent indgedances whats xanax have that kolonpin dont ## One has Alprazolam and one has Clonazepam in it. Two different drugs in the same family that have similar properties ## Xanax is slightly structurally different than klonopin. The main factor being that xanax has a shorter half life than klonopin. The drug gets into your system effecting you quicker and more intensely but also leaves your system more quickily than klonopin which comes on slower lasts longer and leaves the body quicker therefore making it easier to taper off of if that time does come.

If I stop taking .5mg of xanax after only2 months wwhat's the risk of a possible seizure ## Slight ## It would ultimately be best to talk with your doctor about tapering first. But from what I've been reading, most people shouldn't have any severe problems after stopping xanax at that low of a dose. The National Anxiety Foundation states that cold turkey-ing 4mgs or more is notably what can cause moderate to severe withdrawal symptoms and/or convulsions in some cases. So in my honest opinion the risk for you is very slim. Does anyone else have advice on this from personal experience? ## 3 MG brought on a week of Hospitalization for me! ## I take 1 mg of Lorazepam Three times a day and I have gone off it no problem. This is not xanax, it is just a regular anti depressant which will not take care of your xanax withdrawal. And yes, the feelings you are having is detox ... it's the same way I feel when I don't have my xanax. The detox symptoms can last for months to years, if you don't believe me look it up. ## I didn't see anyone mention that this was supposed to be Xanax? You're right though, it's not. A pink oval pill marked with IP 53 is a 20mg Citalopram hydrobromide tablet - An antidepressant of the SSRI class. If someone is going through Xanax withdrawal one thing I'd recommend is to see if your doctor will help taper you off to make for an easier/safer transition. Any good doctor should know that Xanax withdrawals can be very serious and cause seizures. I don't ...

So, I'm in a big big dilemma. For my own security and well being, I MUST come off my Fentanyl transdermal patch. I've Been using 50mcg/72 hours for about 6 mths straight. I have 3 of the 50mcg patches left and 4 of the 25mcg to help me taper off. I will no longer be using them anymore, just Norcos or oxymorphone IR. I'm absolutely terrified of withdrawals. My doc who put me on them has No idea what it's like to come off like this. Can someone please tell me if and how bad the withdrawals from going down that much will affect me? I can not take any benzos (Ativan, xanax, etc). I have come off the oxymorph about 75% in the last 2 mths. I'm literally freaking out. Again, I'm terrified but HAVE to do this for at least another 7 months. Any help would be appreciated. ...
