How To Take Vit D2

What are the ingredients? I have allergies to ALL fish oils, soy, and corn. ## In most cases Vitamin D2 is the only ingredient in a Vitamin D2 supplement, since it is synthetic. Typically, soymilk is fortified with vitamin D2 (but not the other way around, if that makes sense). Vitamin D2 is manufactured through the ultraviolet irradiation of a substance called ergosterol that comes from yeast. Vitamin D2 is vegan and according to my research, corn, soy, and fish oils should not be present in Vitamin D2. All in all, It really just comes down to reading the nutrition label on the bottle and checking the list of ingredients of any particular brand. But in this case you don't have to worry about "most" brands. I say "most" because sometimes you will find random ingredie...

Is it safe for me to take daily , my doctor wants me to take it for 4 months ## In my opinion 50,000 a day (from dietary supplements) is way too much. My girlfriend was diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency also as she lives in rainy Portland, Oregon. Her doctor suggested 50,000 IU per "week" for a certain number of weeks in order to reverse her deficiency. I know everyone is different, but 50,000 a day seems like a long shot from supplements alone and should probably be tapered down to a normal dose range after the 4 month period is up so it doesn't become toxic in your system (as Vitamin D2 is synthetic). I personally take 5,000 IU of Vitamin D3 per 'day' as that is what I've read in many health magazines to be a healthy dose. If you are able to, I would strongly...

I was prescribed Vitamin D2 1.25 mg to be taken once a week for five weeks after my D level was tested and came back at a level of 21. I took the first dose 5 days ago and for the past four days I have experienced intense muscle and bone pain, drowsiness, weakness, shortness of breath, burning sensation in my bladder. Could I be experiencing an overdose? Is this too high of a dosage in comparison to my level being 21? ## The symptoms you've described may actually be due to the deficiency. The dosage you're taking does convert to 50,000IUs, but tests show that toxicity doesn't usually occur at that dose, unless it's taken daily for several months. There is a small chance that the dosage is too much for you, at once and could be causing the symptoms, but you should talk to...

Is there anyway to find this without a prescription? ## Yes, this is just a vitamin and can be found at any health food store, and even most drug stores over the counter, and it's actually preferable to the prescription form. Your doctor is not doing you any favors prescribing you the prescription form of this vitamin. Please see the page on Prescription Vitamin D to see why you actually are better off with the over the counter form anyway. You can simply purchase Vitamin D3 (emphasis on the '3') at any health food store. 50,000 IU's per week is equivalent to approximately 7000 IU's per day. So just get an over the counter dosage that is the equivalent of 7000 IU's per day and take it daily instead of weekly. There is no downside to this, it's actually prefer...

Hytakerol Dihydrotachysterol

Dihydrotachysterol (DHT) is a synthetic vitamin D analog activated in the liver that does not require renal hydroxylation like vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). DHT has a rapid onset of action (2 hours), a shorter half-life, and a greater effect on mineralization of bone salts than does vitamin D.[1] References .mw-parser-output .reflist{font-size:90%;margin-bottom:0.5em;list-style-type:decimal}.mw-parser-output .reflist .references{font-size:100...

Does it work immediately after you take it or does it take time to work into your blood stream, because I have stomach problems. ## Hello, Terri! How are you? What are you taking it for? And what formulation is it, tablet or liquid? ## I just had a complete blood work up and my internist said I need to take vitamin D2, 50,000 units once a week for 2 months. I don't take vitamins as they make me feel sick. I am afraid to take these for fear of side affects. Can anyone please tell me if they had any side affects from this dose? I rather take a lower dose every day and stop if I got any side affect. Thank you. ## Since you have problems with vitamins, I'd recommend NOT taking this prescription of high dose Vitamin D once a week, but going the health food store and getting Vitamin D...

i like to know what will happen if i took the whole bottle of vitamin d2 50000 unit in 12 days instead of 12 weeks ## Mera wt abhi 50kg hai mereko kam se kam 80kg karna hai ## Hello, Susan! How are you? Please alert your doctor. Generally, it's not a serious issue, because it's been found that you can't really overdose on Vitamin D, however, it could throw off some lab tests. For instance, you may show elevated calcium levels, which can signify cancer in some people, but yours may just be due to the excess amounts of vitamin D. Your doctor may also want you to take a break from it, for awhile, and provide you with a new prescription to continue it at a later time. The FDA classifies this as a supplement and its most common side effect is constipation. Is there anything else ...

Need to now how save Vitamin D2 50,000 IU is. ## First off, Vitamin D2 is a synthetic form of vitamin D. Want you want is Vitamin D3 if you are choosing the route of supplements. I suppose you can say both are synthetic since they are man made, but D3 is as close as it gets to actually getting sunlight. Do you live in an environment that doesn't provide much sunlight? I live in Portland, Oregon at the moment so I completely understand the lack of sunshine. But if you are fortunate enough to have a sunny environment, take advantage of it for at least 30 minutes a day and toss the supplements. In the world of nutrition, too much isn't a good thing. I think most people would agree that 50,000 IU is about 48,000 IU TOO much! Normal supplements of D3 contain 1,000-2,000 IU. Did you m...

Do you take this supplement at night or with meals? When are you supposed to take it? ## You should take vitamin d with some sort of fat- any meal is fine. But you should be aware that taking D2 is NOT the recommended form of Vitamin D. Please take a look at the page on Vitamin D3 to see why that is preferred. You may also be interested in taking a look at this page on Magnesium and Vitamin D to see why it's not the best idea to 'just' take large doses of Vitamin D without taking magnesium to prevent some of the adverse effects that can occur with large doses of Vitamin D. ## suspect Vit D2 overdose with 50,000 units prescribed ## I was very tired so my dr. took blood work and found out I was low on Vitamin D. He put me on 51,000 units and after a few weeks, a person who nev...

vit D 2 1.25mg50.000 unit . will it cause weight gain. I don't want to gain weight...I gained 20 pounds ..is it from the VITD2 ? ## Hello, Margo! How are you? No, this is just a nutritional supplement, it is present in many foods that you eat, such as dairy products and isn't known to cause weight gain. As a matter of fact, it's known to cause very few side effects, at all, as listed by the FDA, other than possibly diarrhea. Are you on any other medications?

what is the side affects of this drug vit d2 ? ## once a week for 9 wks. what if any side affects? ## Hello, Badeye! How are you? This is classified by the FDA as a nutritional supplement. In this high of a dose, it may cause some nausea, diarrhea and drowsiness. Since this is very potent, please be careful not to exceed your doctor's dosing instructions. Is there anything else I can help with?

i took this vit d2 1.25 for 30 days now pharmacy say i did not suppose to take that med that doctor gave me the prescription ## I find it rather odd that the pharmacy is telling you not to take what the doctor prescribed you. One thing you have to keep in mind is that the pharmacy does not know your medical history or any of your personal reasons for having to supplement Vitamin D. I would however argue that Vitamin D2 is synthetic and therefore may not be as effective as it's more natural counterpart (Vitamin D3). From this point of view, I can understand why the pharmacy may recommend that you take D3 instead of D2. Were you able to get your prescription filled?

74 y /o female diagnosed with vit D2 def-cy and prescribed Vit D2 50000IU/week.Before that developed signs of facial swelling and 1 episode of hypotension and ? allergic reaction.Labs- pending. Should she take VitD2 or Vit D3? ## Hello, Rya! How are you? She should take the one her doctor has prescribed. But the high dosage may cause some nausea and dizziness. They are two different forms of Vitamin D and, at her age, there is likely good reason her doctor has specifically prescribed D2 and not D3. Is she on any other medications?

TRYING TO FIND THE INGEDENCE FOR vit d2 prescription VS over the counter meds ## Hi I take that medicine expect I take Watson brand ## @Carol, The underlying difference between ergocalciferol (vitamin D2) and cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) is that D2 is a synthetic lab version and D3 is a product of nature (i.e. produced by our skin when we're exposed to sunlight or via supplements derived from a microorganism like *lichen* that produces D3). Furthermore, studies proposed by Dr. Fuhrman indicate that D3 is of higher quality than D2 due to it being more biologically active. You had also mentioned that you're trying to find an ingredient difference between vitamin D2 prescriptions vs OTC meds... By that, are you simply referring to OTC versions of D2 and D3? If so, my understanding ...

after taking 50,000 units twice.. I started to get slight pain across the chest... I stopped it.. anyone else ? ## Have you consulted your doctor? Did you have a deficiency in it? That is quite a high amount to be taking and too much of it, even though it is a vital nutrient can be just as dangerous as not enough. I did test as having a deficiency in it, but my doctor on has me taking 2,000IUs, daily, to rectify the problem. ## i am taking vit d2 1.25mg 50,000 unit a day for 14 days is this safe to take

All other comments aside, this stuff is rediculously priced, and a less expensive over the counter alternative has to exist. ## The highest I've seen available over the counter is the 2,0000ius. You may be able to buy them and just take more than one, but I'd suggest asking your doctor first. You may also want to check a local vitamin shop, as they tend to have a larger selection than most other stores. I have to take the 2,000 and that's usually the only place I can find it around here. Are there any other questions or comments? ## I was prescribed by a PCP Vit. Do you have any idea what's causing the deficiency? Vitamin D ## sir, madam i have my loose hair pl z give me some information for hair. thank you ## Yes, this is almost certainly appropriate. If your doctor gave you another prescription, it's almost certainly because the first prescription did not raise your levels enough and he is doing 'almost' the right thing giving you another prescription to bring up your levels. Although the 'prescription' form is 'inferior' and you'd be better off getting an 'over the counter' D3 instead of the synthetic D2 that he prescribed. Plea...

Hectorol Doxercalciferol

Doxercalciferol (or 1-hydroxyergocalciferol, trade name Hectorol) is drug for secondary hyperparathyroidism and metabolic bone disease.[1] It is a synthetic analog of ergocalciferol (vitamin D2). It suppresses parathyroid synthesis and secretion.[2] Docercalciferol is the vitamin D2 analogue of alfacalcidol.[3] It undergoes 25-hydroxylation in the liver to become the active ercalcitriol, without the involvement of kidneys.[4] ...
