How To Take Bactrim

I noticed a small lump behind my left ear Sunday. ByThursday, it was large, red, and very painful. My earlobe was swollen as well. Then I noticed the tenderness starting down the left side of my neck. I saw my Dr. yesterday and was diagnosed with cellulitis. She gave me Bactrim 800-160 twice daily. I took my two doses yesterday. When I woke this morning, my earlobe looks like it's gonna pop, the lump is no smaller and instead of just tenderness in the neck, there's swelling between the jaw and earlobe. My question is, does Bactrim take a few days to start seeing and feeling results? My Dr Office is closed due to the holiday weekend and I don't know who else to ask. Thanks ## Hello, Chris! I just had jaw surgery and developed staph infection (red blotchey acne like white heads) on my chin. I've had this before and taken Bactrim for it in the past. I had surgery on both feet to remove lypomas on Jan. 19. 1 foot was healing very slowly. Dr. thought I may have staph - did a culture. It came back no staph or infection. Said I have skin flora. Dr. put me on this antibiotic as a precaution b/c this Wed. he is going to do a "scrub" on 1 foot to enable new skin to grow back. I took med. for 7 days ( 1 twice a day.) He ordered a refill. I am taking Bactrim DS for an infection cellulitis due to a cut on my leg. Is this the right antibiotic given to me? ## Hi Marie, Based on my research, Bactrim DS is used for treating cellulitis infection. If I can recommend anything else to help the healing process, it would be to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and look into supplements that will boost your immune system. A good anti inflammatory supplement is Echinacea Goldenseal. Also, Tea Tree and Lavender essential oils are very good for skin related infections because they are anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. I’ve been throwing up and horribly sick for the past week and finally went to the ER. The doctor told me to take Benadryl, but then she gave me other medicines and I wanna make sure I can still take the Benadryl with them without anything happening. ## Hi Nikki, sorry to hear about how sick you've been feeling! As far as Benadryl and Bactrim go, I did not see any interactions when I checked with medline plus. As long as your doctor is aware that you would be taking both at the same time (i.e. they prescribed those drugs to you themselves), then they probably deemed the combination to be safe. I took half a bactrim 3 hours ago. Can I change to doxycycline now? I have a rash on my hands. My dog was itching yesterday and I gave it an oatmeal bath but i did not wear gloves.
