I noticed a small lump behind my left ear Sunday. ByThursday, it was large, red, and very painful. My earlobe was swollen as well. Then I noticed the tenderness starting down the left side of my neck. I saw my Dr. yesterday and was diagnosed with cellulitis. She gave me Bactrim 800-160 twice daily. I took my two doses yesterday. When I woke this morning, my earlobe looks like it's gonna pop, the lump is no smaller and instead of just tenderness in the neck, there's swelling between the jaw and earlobe. My question is, does Bactrim take a few days to start seeing and feeling results? My Dr Office is closed due to the holiday weekend and I don't know who else to ask. Thanks ## Hello, Chris! Been using bactrim for several days, abscess seems to remain the same. Could I be anti resistant to antibiotics? ## Hello, Crowe! How are you? How many days have you been taking it? The general rule for antibiotics, according to the NIH, is that if they are working, you shouldn't see any worsening after being on them for a full 24 hours and you should start to see improvement, after taking them for a full 72 hours. If it's been longer than that, with no change, you may need to try a different antibiotic. The U.S. FDA lists the typical antibiotic side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. ## I just started taking the BactrimDs 800-160 for an ingestion under my eye how quick will this take I have swelling under my eye

How are you? Has there been any improvement, yet? I had surgery on both feet to remove lypomas on Jan. 19. 1 foot was healing very slowly. Dr. thought I may have staph - did a culture. It came back no staph or infection. Said I have skin flora. Dr. put me on this antibiotic as a precaution b/c this Wed. he is going to do a "scrub" on 1 foot to enable new skin to grow back. I took med. for 7 days ( 1 twice a day.) He ordered a refill. I took 2 pills of the refill & work up with a severe rash resembling measels. I have no itching. The last pill I took was Thursday a.m. Dr. put me on benadryl gel caps every 4 hrs. Problem is that when I woke up this morning (Sat.) the rask had gotten much worse & spread to my entire body. I have been running 101 - 102 fever for 2 days now. Dr. have prescribed Leviquin since I must be havin...

I am taking Bactrim DS for an infection cellulitis due to a cut on my leg. Is this the right antibiotic given to me? ## Hi Marie, Based on my research, Bactrim DS is used for treating cellulitis infection. If I can recommend anything else to help the healing process, it would be to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and look into supplements that will boost your immune system. A good anti inflammatory supplement is Echinacea Goldenseal. Also, Tea Tree and Lavender essential oils are very good for skin related infections because they are anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. If you decide to try any of my suggestions, make sure you do plenty of your own research! I hope this helps!

When I do sleep I also get really weird dreams. Has anyone experienced this? ## Yes- I am having problems sleeping and weird dreams also. Ooh-well; it will stop soon. I will complete the medication and hopefully be done with it. ## This medication is a combination of two antibiotics, and yes, they will cause sleep problems for some people, but this will wear off if you are on it for awhile, or it you complete your course of treatment. ## I have been put on Bactrim for my acne treatment. It is an antibiotic, so it can be used to treat various types of infections, however, it is not going to negate the need for a dental visit. Even if it clears up an infection, if you do have one, it will not fix the underlying problem that caused the infection, so it will just continue to recur. Are there any low-income clinics in your area? Side effects to this medication may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. ## ARE ANTIBIOTICS STILL GOOD AFTER EXPIRATION DATE ? ## Can bactrium antibiotics be used to cure reoccurring Boyles? ## Yes. I am taking Bactrim for a UTI and have side effects of hands shaking, gassy stomach, headache, loss of appetite, and irritability. There are 4 pills left and I am afraid to finish them. Is a substitute for Bactrim DS tablet SMX-TMP DS TAB? The script is 2 tablets twice a day. Should I just discontinue them or reduce them to one a day? ## Those can be normal side effects of this medication, according to FDA reports. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, and diarrhea. And SMX-TMP DS is just an abbreviation for the ingredients in Bactrim DS. An allergic reaction is listed by the FDA as possibly including fever, chills, trouble breathing, hives, and swelling. This is a very strong antibiotic, though it is not usually the first choice for a UTI. Are you on any other medications? Have yo...

I’ve been throwing up and horribly sick for the past week and finally went to the ER. The doctor told me to take Benadryl, but then she gave me other medicines and I wanna make sure I can still take the Benadryl with them without anything happening. ## Hi Nikki, sorry to hear about how sick you've been feeling! As far as Benadryl and Bactrim go, I did not see any interactions when I checked with medline plus. As long as your doctor is aware that you would be taking both at the same time (i.e. they prescribed those drugs to you themselves), then they probably deemed the combination to be safe. In your message you also said "but then she gave me other medicines" - can I ask what other medicines your doctor gave you? Or were you just talking about Bactrim?

Can I take bactrim and metronidazole together. It seems like I need to ## Hello, Carlos! How are you? These two antibiotics can affect how much you absorb of each, so they shouldn't be taken together, unless your doctor has directed you to take them both. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, stomach pain and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I took half a bactrim 3 hours ago. Can I change to doxycycline now? I have a rash on my hands. My dog was itching yesterday and I gave it an oatmeal bath but i did not wear gloves. I need to go to bed. Also had a b12 inj. which is normal this morning. I take valium at bedtime too. ## Hello, Kat! How are you doing? Has there been any change? Antibiotics will not do anything to help with an allergic rash, you'd need some type of antihistamine or steroid to treat that. Have you consulted your doctor? Usually, a topical steroid would be tried first and the FDA lists their typical side effects as possibly including skin redness, irritation and dryness.

Im on suboxone and being treated for an infection with batrim. Will both still work properly or cancel each other out? ## I didn't find any problems or interactions listed, but it's always best to double check. But it should be fine, unless your doctor has some concern. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Bactrim as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Suboxone is an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I have been prescribed bactrim that has 58\98 on it and I took all my doses and later I took a pregnancy test because I was late and I ended up two weeks pregnant can that harm the baby? ## How do you know how far along you are, unless you've already had a doctor's exam? As to the antibiotic, it is very doubtful that it would cause harm that early on, but it is best to see an OB Gyn and let them know that you were taking it, to be certain. Have you already set up an appointment with one? ## I have actually heard that it can be harmful in the first three months of pregnacy can cause blindness but I sorry usually when you are two weeks pregnant it won't even show on a test cause the hormone so low so you gotta be farther. Learn more Bactrim details here. I had so many problems with this one that I will never take it, again. Since you haven't completed your course of it, you should call your doctor and ask for an alternative antibiotic. My child was prescribed one for acne, the other for an upper respiratory infection. Should he take both, or stop taking the one for acne until he finishes the one for infection? ## Hi Lorraine, Based on my research there are no drug interactions found between the active ingredients in Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole + trimethoprim) and Amoxicillin; deeming them as safe to take together. This does not necessarily mean no interactions exist, but my sources state that every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is accurate. I hope this helps to answer your question! :) ## I'm curious. One of my colleagues, a herm, lives in my building and my domestic partner needs meds for acne.
