I have been taking 100 mg of gabapentin for three weeks for neuropathy and it helped but I am feeling so down and giving mood swings so I want to stop taking it. Can I just stop it without ant problems. I'm taking a capsule so I can't cut it in half. ## After such a short period of time, you usually can, but it would be best to check with your doctor, to be safe. If you are prone to seizures, there is a risk of your experiencing them, according to FDA reports. However, you should be aware that these side effects will usually pass, once your body gets used to the medication, which generally takes about 5 to 6 weeks. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?

I have been taking way too much gabapentin for several years now. I started taking it to help alleviate withdrawal symptoms from suboxone. Then I started taking more and more and found out that stopping gabapentin has its own terrible withdrawal. I take about twenty 600mg gabapentin pills a day. More or less depending on how much I have. When I run out the withdrawal is pretty bad but what's worse is that it lasts way too long. It takes at least the days to get through the worst of it. I could just really use some help. Does suboxone help alleviate gabapentin/lyrica withdrawal symptoms? ## A slow taper is usually the best and safest way to stop, since an abrupt withdrawal could create the risk of seizures, according to the FDA, along with nausea, fever, chills, anxiety, rebound pain...

As to withdrawals, a person can experience them if they abruptly stop any medication that they've been taking for a long period of time. Thus, both Zoloft and Gabapentin can cause withdrawal issues, including the risk of seizures, which may be dangerous, as reported by the FDA. Other withdrawal effects may include dizziness, headache, irritability, mood swings, rebound depression, anxiety, insomnia and diarrhea. Is there anything I can help with?

Today is day 7 of 1 pill daily, only 100mg. Second attempt trying this drug, don't like it. Can I simply stop? ## Hello, Suzi! How are you? What types of problems are you having with it? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings and weight changes. Ive been on gabapentin 800mg 3 x's a day for several months for treatment of fibromyalgia pain and anxiety. I have been waking up every morning with diarrhea (2-4 trips to bathroom) for about the same amout of time, and my doctor claims the 2 are not related. I cant remember having a normal bowel movement since beginning the gaba and am wondering if anyone else may have had the same experience? The gaba has been the most effective treatment I've tried for the fibromyalgia pain & the added benefit of treating my anxiety has been wonderful as well & I'd hate to stop taking it. But if the trade off is daily diarrhea, i may have to stop! Of course my doc wants to run a bunch of expensive tests for the diarrhea, but if its as simple as stopping the gaba I'd rather sta...

Will taking gabapentin stop the effects of morphine, and how long does it take for the gabapentin to be metabolized? ## Hello, Nikki! How are you? Gabapentin is actually an anticonvulsant that has also been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders, so no, it will not block the effects of Morphine. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings and weight changes. When you say metabolized, are you asking about when side effects stop, when it's no longer detectable, or something else? Can you please be more specific? ## I was on morphine for pain caused by a bulged disc in spine causing nerve compression it helped but 3 years later I was taking up to 150 mg a day and a scare promoted me to get off the...

My husband was prescribed gabapentin for severe tinnitus. . From the very first gabapentin reduced and sometimes completely stopped the tinnitus, but after about three weeks of use his tinnitus came back as strong as ever and the gabapentin gave him no relief. Has anyone else had that experience that the pills just stop working? If you continue does it start helping again? ## Hello, Chlokara! How are you? His doctor may want him to try a higher dosage, but it is doubtful that it will start helping, again, at the current dosage. Scientific studies have actually shown that Gabapentin isn't more effective than a placebo at treating tinnitus. Conversely, as listed by the FDA, it can actually cause tinnitus as a side effect, along with nausea, dizziness, weight gain and anorexia. Is ther...

Been off Gabapentin for months now and feeling much better..still having some stomach issues, bloating, low appetite and small stomach ache. Dr. had me try Zantac and it does help some. Anyone else had this problem coming off Gabapentin?? Thanks ## Hello, Sandy! How are you? If it is still occurring months after stopping, it is not likely related to withdrawal of the Gabapentin, but it could have caused some damage to your stomach that needs to heal. As reported by the FDA, it has been known to cause peptic ulcers, stomatitis, hiatal hernia and gastroenteritis, as side effects. If the Zantac isn't helping much, it might be best to see a gastroenterologist, so they can determine exactly what is causing the problem and help you resolve it. Is there anything else I can help with? ## It...

I have taken Gabapentin for over seven years for pain. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. I recently read how Gabapentin can cause brain lapses and cause Alzheimer's symptoms. I have been experiencing forgetfulness. I want to be off of this drug and decided to quit. I was taking 1800 mgs daily and am down to taking 300 mgs daily. My withdrawal symptoms have been feeling like I am dying, terrible sweating, intense itching, nausea, stomach pain and diahrrea. I can't sleep, nightmares and headaches. I am not giving in.... I want off of this. When will these symptoms ease up (I pray they do) I will cut my pills in half and take only 150 mgs daily.... until gradually I have stopped. My doctor, also over seven years ago, put me on Cymbalta for pain. I gradually stopped taking it a year ago....

I tapered up to 1800 mg on a sample pack and my Dr. didn't listen & called in Gabapentin. I tried that off & on for a few years post chemo. (Peripheral Neuropathy). I then went cold turkey to about 2-3 '300' mg pills for a couple of days, felt that swirly headed silly almost tipsy feeling & decided to just stop the drug. It has never helped my PN. And an online msg. board has many posts about Gralise being a big joke. Maybe it is??? I'm having some pain relief from Cymbalta, but probably only 75% back pain relief. I still have 25% back/shoulder pain. Such is life. Everyone lives with pain. But I do have chronic pain from PN. And emotional pain. PTSD from past cancer, etc. ## Hello, Marie! How are you doing? I don't consume cannabis anymore. It's been about 15 yrs since I have. But when I did smoke back in the day I smoked a lot for a good 10yrs. I've noticed lately that I cant remember anything. When someone introduces themselves I just totally forget 2 mins later. I have tried the trick where you say the person's name over 5x's or use it in a sentence to help remember. But to no avail. Even at work, I'm told 3 things to do, I only remember 2 of them, or when it's time to do a task at work I just totally forget. It's affecting my job and making me look very stupid...
