How To Stop Fenofibrate

Is it possible to reduce/control triglyceride levels naturally? I'm stopping fenofibrate, strictly following a diet and doing vigorous daily exercise to reduce 10 percent of my weight. ## Yes, it is possible and many people have done it. More recent studies in the U.S. have shown that these medications do not actually improve longevity and that elevated cholesterol levels do not cause a higher risk of heart disease and stroke. I am sure more studies are needed, but I am relaying what the current NIH reports detail. How high were your triglycerides? And what types of foods do you usually eat? How much exercise do you usually get each day? Are you on any other medications?

It can quickly raise kidney levels. It can destroy them. I took it four months and thankfully after having it a month I got lab for cancer follow up. They said see a kidney Dr. Found out this drug soared my levels. I stopped at once. It could have done permanat damage and death. Did not feel any thing happening. ## Hello, Amy, how are you? I was prescribed this medicine on May 25 started taking it and noticed severe muscle pain in legs and hips and very tired I asked a pharmacist and he said stop taking it so I weened my self off by June 13 and the muscle pain and fatigue is still with me. Doctor said to take aleve 2 times a day tried for a few days but doesn't work ! Hi, I have been taking fenofibrate for only a month and haven't had any problems. I have not been able to refill for about a week due to the cost. I have been having an odd chest pain the past couple of days. It isn't a consistent pain, just every now and again. Could this be caused from me stopping this medication? ## Hello, Katriano! It's just not worth the risk of sitting around and hoping it's just from stopping a medication. If you are on fenofibrate, do you have to be on it all your life? ## Not necessarily! Some people do manage to lower their cholesterol levels successfully and keep them low, via healthy diet and exercise, so they are then able to stop such medications. It can vary from person to person and may include such factors as how high their cholesterol has gone. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and joint/muscle aches. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks for the info. I believe my creatinine level has gone from 1.5 to 1.7 in about 15 days and 2.5 in another 15 days. As a result of this I have stopped stanlip (fenofibrate) suddenly. Muscles pains and heavy tiredness, and low level of oxygen in the blood. ## Fenofibrate is most commonly used to help lower cholesterol and yes, those can be common side effects of most of these types of medications. You should talk to your doctor, as it may not be the right medication for you and you may need to try something else. I have been on this drug for Hypercholesterolaemia on and off for a couple of years but each time I have a constant chesty cough and sinus problems. The cough just doesn't stop and I get hardly any sleep. I used to take codeine tablets at night and this stopped the cough however I didn't want to continue on these as my doctor said they are addictive. So I am at my wits end. Since starting Fenofibrate 160mg I've been having headaches daily... Sometimes my muscle in my ankle hurts as well. It's a pain I never had before. Three times I started on Fenofibrate 54 mg and I stopped taking it. I knew the side effect of vertigo was possible. I want to try this drug again BUT I want to know if the vertigo side effect will lessen or subside after time. I have been taking Fenofibrate 134mg for almost 7 years now. I have hereditary high Triglycerides. Mine was 633 the first blood test in 2010 and then the second one was 408. Doctor started me on Fenofibrate and my Triglycerides have been at 97 - 200 ever since. Until now. The price for me has been $132 for 90 pills. I have been taking fenofibrate 160mg for almost a year now and I have severe abdominal pain so bad I had to be submitted into the ER and they couldn`t find anything wrong with me. So now I am going to stop taking and don`t care what my doctor says, if the pain goes away I will notify the FDA about this. Very fatigued, ABD pain and nausea. MD did blood work to check liver enzymes, BMP, Amylase, Lipase. Ultra sound completed today of gallbladder, pancreas, liver. Was only on fenofibrate for 20 days 145mg. Could not take lipitor for severe muscle cramps. However lipitor was out well the muscle pains ended 36 hours after taking the med. I don't feel better yet after D/Cing the fenofibrate for 4 days. what is the side effect of stopping the intake of lipicard suddenly after taking for a few days?? does it shoot up the reduced triglyceride level?? ## If you've only been taking it for a few days, there really shouldn't be any effect to stopping it, it's barely had a chance to begin working, to be honest. I have been using fenofibrate for about 4 months. About that same time I started having sharp pain in my left hip area. I thought it might be a hip problem but it seems to be more like a muscle in the top of my buttocks to my very lower back. At times it seems to be more pronounced in the front side like my upper groin area. Sometime the pain lessens some if I am doing more physical activities during the day like mowing the lawn and working around the garden. I have higher levels of all components from Lipid Profile and low HDL. My total cholesterol is 370mg/dl. I started with Rozavel F 5 after 3weeks I have tremendous pain in my upper back and shoulder. I stopped Rozavel and had muscle relaxants. Then I re started after 2 weeks, I am suffering from continous pain in my triceps and biceps region, its untolerable. For the last 6months, I was on Crestor 20mg and had I was very comfortable. I will ask my doctor to shift me to Crestor, which is also Rosuvastatin 20mg ## If you keep taking medications that contain the same active ingredient, you will probably keep experiencing the same problems.
