My doctor switched me to Oxycontin 80MG from Oxycodone IR 30MG. What is the difference between the two? I read all these forums and many of them are about abusing them and I am not interested in doing that for fear of dying. So, what will happen if I chew them? My husband swears that op is not OxyContin please verifiy this for me ## It is Oxycontin, it is just a new formulation of it that was specially prepared to help prevent abuse. Basically, if someone tries to break it down to snort or inject it, it turns into a gummy goo that retains its time released properties. The change, however, has resulted in it not working as well for some people that had been taking it and there are also some that have experienced unusual side effects. It's a bright bright lime green round tablet with oc on one side and 80 on the other. Is supposed to be oxycontin 80 but is peppery tasting and has no coating. I've never had an oxycontin tablet like This. Can i take pill op 80 and m357 together ## OP 80 is an 80mg Oxycontin tablet, it is a time released formulation of Oxycodone. M357 contains 5mgs of Hydrocodone and 500mgs of Acetaminophen, the active ingredients in Vicodin, it is a regular release formulation. They are both narcotic pain relievers and yes, they are commonly used together to help reliever chronic, severe pain. However, you should know that they both can cause CNS depression, so you should watch for lowered blood pressure, slower breathing rate, somnolence and lowered heart rate and seek medical attention if they seem severe. I am not sure, however, if they are still being made. Oxycodone is a very powerful narcotic analgesic and the abuse of it can be veru dangerous. For your situation I would suggest contacting your doctor to see if he can write you a prescription for another brand. The new OP's are there for the sole purpose of keeping abusers from using the pill in other unethical ways (i.e. smoking it, snorting it, etc). Unfortunately the more people abuse these medications, the more restrictions and coatings will be put on the pills in only a matter of time.
