I've been taking tylenol #4 with codeine for over 18 years now for pain management. I would like to know what is the next step up because its not as effective anymore. I currently take 12 tablets a day. ## Hello Thoyt! Wow! I'm sorry you're in so much pain. That's a lot of it to be taken in one day, you're exceeding the 3,000mgs daily limit issued by the FDA or Acetaminophen. This medication is classified as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. The next step up would probably be Tramadol or Hydrocodone, with the first being the weakest and they latter being the strongest. Does anyone else have any suggestions? ## Codeine is not recommended for l...

please send me details to this question ## No the 10/325 are stronger than the 5/325. ## I was wondering if this was even a serious question or not, since 10 is obviously a higher number than 5... Though I have to ask the original poster, did you mean "10" of some other medication? I.e. - 10mg Zohydro (Hydrocodone extended release) which doesn't have Acetaminophen? You asked for details to your question but didn't post much detail yourself... So if you could please post back with any additional information or feedback that would be most helpful. Thanks! ## How many 5-325 hydrocodon does it take to equal a 10-325 hydrocodon ## It takes two of the 5/325 to equal one 10/325 of hydrocodone. By taking two of the 5/325 you will be getting 650mgs of Tylenol in one dose so be co...

Is it possible to get the codeine without the Tylenol and or is dilaudid a better than Tylenol w/codeine? ## Yes, Codeine is available by itself, with the Acetaminophen/Tylenol. Dilaudid, however, is a much stronger analgesic. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Yes, you CAN get straight Codeine(anytime you can get a med w/o Tylenol, please do so as it's less damaging to kidneys)& this way YOU can control the amt of acetaminophen you injest. As for which med us better? That all depends on your need for pain relief AND what your Dr. recommends. I'm in stage IV kidney diseas...

Can I take 2 aleve and 2 Tylenol at the same time for pain. Is there any benefit to doing this? Are there any adverse reactions with taking both at the same time? ## Hello, Steve! How are you? That's not advisable, though you may get more benefit by alternating them every 8 hours, if your doctor approves. However, for pain, the best to try first would probably be the Aleve, since it is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory that can help with both pain and swelling, while the Acetaminophen doesn't help much with swelling, which can easily worsen someone's pain. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach irritation and increased risk of bleeding. If you feel you need something stronger, then you should see your doctor as they c...

Is a Tylenol 4, white round pill with 2065 v and 4 on other side, equal to a Percocet 10? Was just prescribed this from emergency room. But I have not taken it before. My doctor has me taking 4 Percocet 10's a day for back pain. Now have 2 healspurs and tendinitis and sprained ankle and in so much pain! Help please? ## Hello Marie! How are you? Codeine is actually weaker, so each one of the Tylenol 4 you take is only equivalent to about 6mgs of Oxycodone. The FDA classifies these medications as being narcotic analgesics. They carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. Most ERs will not prescribe the more potent medications, such as Oxycodone, anymore. To get something stronger to help with more p...

I would like to know if Tylenol 3 and Lortab are in the same family. ## Hello, James! How are you? They are both narcotics, but they don't contain the same active ingredients. Tylenol 3 contains Acetaminophen and Codeine, so it's a rather mild narcotic analgesic, but Lortab contains Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone, so it's much stronger. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have leg and back pain were I can't even walk or even lay down which hydrocodone is best for me!? ## Dear Barbara, the only difference is the amount of Tylenol in them. The 325 have less Tylenol than the 750. Some Drs. Will give the 325 b cause 2 much Tylenol can cause liver problems. p.s. Tylenol is same name 4 acetaminophen. ## Hello, Barbara! How are you? Actually, you have no choice but to go with the one that contains 325mgs of Acetaminophen, because the others are no longer available, they were all removed from the market as of the 1st of the year. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Were they taken of...

My wife has liver and pancreatic cancer. She has pain in her stomach as well as indigestion. Will Vicodin work better than Tylenol or is there something better? ## Hello, Kip! How are you and your wife? I'm sorry that she's in so much pain. The Vicodin is actually stronger, so if her doctors has prescribed it, she may want to try it, instead. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, there are also many other medications that she could try, such as Oxycodone, Opana and Dilaudid. All of which she could ask her doctor about. They carry the same risk and cause most of the same side effects as what I've already listed. NIH lists these, as well a...

I have been reading some information, and I am wondering if Tylenol 3 is the same as Hydrocodone? ## Based on my research, Tylenol 3 is composed of two analgesic or pain-relieving drugs: Acetaminophen + Codeine. But "NOT" Hydrocodone. Hydrocodone is alot like codeine, except that codeine is said to be a natural derivative of opium plants whilst hydrocodone is synthetic. Hydrocodone is also proven to be much stronger. I hope this helps to answer your question!

I take 8 - 30mg Codeine daily, put some days need a bit more. I have some Hydrocodone 5/ace 500. can I add one or two of these, or take additional Codeine ## You can take 60 mg of Codeine every 4 hrs. But, if they contain 500 mg of tylenol instead of 325 mg, you can only take 2 every 6 hrs due to the high amount of tylenol. Hydrocodone is stronger that Codeine, so you may want to take the hydrocodone only instead.

I'm taking hydrocodon-APAP 5/300MG How much Tylenol does this contain? I was told by nurse at hospital to take Tylenol between doses. Is it ok to take this medication for along period of time SAY 3 to 4 weeks ## Dear Don, this medication contains 300 mg. of Tylenol. Yes it's ok 2 take Tylenol in between. Hope this helps. Any other??? Feel free 2 ask and I will try 2 help. ## Hi Don, It might surprise you, but an astronomical number of patients dealing with chronic pain are actually prescribed these types of medications for considerably longer periods of time. I"ve read about a few people on here being on even stronger narcotics than this for 10 to 20 years like it was nothing. It's certainly not the best way to go in my opinion, but some of the dirty doctors out there re...

anyone else taking generic tylenol 4 made by teva? my pharmacy just switched brands and taking ONE feels like i'm taking FOUR. but that's only every third pill... they dont feel consistent but regardless they feel WAYYYY over the regular strength of codeine. it feels like i'm taking codiene and vicodin at the same timme and i hate it. ## Is there any chance that the times when it seems to hit stronger are also times where you might have eaten less, or not eaten anything yet? If so, that could explain the inconsistency right there. It could even happen if you took one with a big breakfast, since the food would prevent it from hitting your body as fast and then took the next one with or just after a light lunch, since there isn't as much food and it the medication would re...

I have 2 different prescriptions for after knee surgery. Which is stronger for pain? ## Hi, Louise! How are you feeling? Since the Acetaminophen augments the action of the Hydrocodone in these, they are both likely to be about the same, actually. Learn more Vicodin details here. One may work a bit better for you than the other, but there's no way to know that, unless you try them. How did you end up with 2 different prescriptions? ## Actually those 10/325 will be stronger. The 10 is the Vicodin and the 325 is the acetaminophen. I broke my arm 3 yrs ago and was already on 5/500 they gave me 10/325 and they were MUCH stronger to me than my normal 5/500. ## !0/325 10 is the hydrocodone. You could go to the grocery store for the tylenol that constitutes the 325

I was prescribed 10/325 Hydrocodone, and 5/325 Oxycodone. Which is stronger for pain after rotator cuff surgery? Neither is doing much good right now. ## ask if you can take vistril with the hydrocodone it will make it stronger and ease your belly so you don't get sick ## In those dosages, they are probably about equal, strength wise. ## To me the hydro/Tylenol & oxy/Tylenol gives the same relief. I've been on both to me anytime they have Tylenol or ibuprofen did nothing for my pain. Dr put me on oxycodone 10mg 6xs a day that was no more do to deaths related to ODS. round white thick outlined M on one side and the number 2 on the other side ## Could you please tell me if 4mg Dilaudid is anywhere near close to being the same medication as Tylenol #3?? I'm severely allergic to Codeine & want to make sure I'm not in danger of having an anaphylactic reaction if I take the Dilaudid. Please help!! ## This tablet is manufactured by Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals and they list it as containing 2mgs of Hydromorphone, which is a generic for Dilaudid. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. It is much stronger than Codeine. I have been taking lortab5/500 for several years due to chronic pain from severe injuries, that are permanent.due to fda,my doctor had to change medicine.i am now taking Tylenol 3 with codeine.how many of the Tylenol can I take at one time or what can I take with it to measure up to the same as the lortab, that would give the same effects?thanks. ## Hello, Miranda! How are you? Actually, given the potency difference, these are almost equivalent and you shouldn't notice a big difference in efficacy. No, there is nothing you can add to make them stronger and you can't take multiples, due to the Acetaminophen, since taking too much of it in a day can be fatally toxic. If they really aren't handling your pain, you'll need to see your doctor for assistance. Is there anything el...

my pain is too much to handle. the doctor cannot give me more than 30 tablets of hydrocodone/acetaminophen at a time. So I need to know how many Tylenol to take to help me. ## Hi Nikki, To my understanding, no amount of tylenol (acetaminophen) is equivalent to the effects of Hydrocodone, before experiencing what would be considered an overdose of acetaminophen - which can be extremely toxic to the liver. It sounds like your best bet would probably be to ask your doctor for a stronger pain medication (that you can take less of) or opt for a safer, more natural alternative that can be used as an adjunctive therapy to what you already take. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Hydrocodone Details I hope this helps!

This is 30mg of codeine hcl, no Tylenol in it. These are hard to get unless you have a liver problem. There very addictive. ## Codeine is a narcotic pain reliever and, as such, it has a much of a danger of addiction as any other narcotic. I also wouldn't say they are necessarily harder to get, because they can also be prescribed by some doctors to prevent a liver problem in people that may not have one, but are at risk for it. Are there any questions or comments? ## I have a 30 mg codeine but I’m only used to taking 1 Percocet or 1 Vicodin 7.5mg. Is this pill stronger than one of them?

yellow oval pill v/36 01 ## This contains Acetaminophen 325mgs and Hydrocodone 10mgs, it is a generic for Norco. This is a narcotic pain reliever, very strong and addictive. ## I wouldn't say they are "very strong", they are strong if you're not used to narcotic pain relievers, much stronger than a darvocet, tylenol 3, or even a plain vicodin 5/500, but weak compared to pain relievers such as percocet, roxycodone, morphine, dilaudid, demerol, oxycontin, fentanyl, and the many other stronger painkillers on the market. I HIGHLY agree that they're very addictive though. I struggled with addiction to vicodin and norco, so I know how addictive they are. ## in trouble need 5 10mg vicodin to feel ok a day

Ok, This tylenol-cod #4 is not very strong...I take Ibuprophen 800 mg for fibromyalgia/arthritis..Waiting for the Docs to figure that one out?? Anyway, the Doc said only one every 6 hrs....HAH...was like taking baby aspirin for a broken leg....Should I take two just to see if It could work doubled or just get a stronger Med.?? ## Interestingly enough, the dosing instructions for Tylenol-Codeine #4 state the following: "Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take more of this medication than is recommended. An overdose of acetaminophen can damage your liver or cause death. Tell your doctor if the medicine seems to stop working as well in relieving your pain." Lately there have been a lot of concerns about liver toxicity upon taking too much acetaminophen.
