I take 8 - 30mg Codeine daily, put some days need a bit more. I have some Hydrocodone 5/ace 500. can I add one or two of these, or take additional Codeine ## You can take 60 mg of Codeine every 4 hrs. But, if they contain 500 mg of tylenol instead of 325 mg, you can only take 2 every 6 hrs due to the high amount of tylenol. Hydrocodone is stronger that Codeine, so you may want to take the hydrocodone only instead.

I have been prescribed Hydrocodone and would like to know how much I can safely take without worrying about an overdose. One pill is not touching the pain! ## In adults, the max dose of Hydrocodone is 60 mg/day or a max single dose of 15 mg. In children older than 12 years of age, the max dose of Hydrocodone is 45 mg/day or a max single dose of 10 mg. The usual adult dose is 2.5 to 7.5 mg of Hydrocodone every 4 to 6 hours. Editor's note: This refers to Hydrocodone by itself, not when taken in combination with other ingredients such as Acetaminophen. ## It really depends on how long you've been on it. Most patients can take 1-2 Hydrocodone every 6 hours as needed for pain. If it's 7.5/325 then you can safely take two but what other medications are you on? How much Tylenol is ...

I have a severe toothache..took one tablet about an hour and still in pain..has helped a little but still unbearable..is it safe to take another one or do I have to wait the 3 more hours as directed? ## Dear JIK, obviously we r suppose 2 take our prescriptions as directed. But, if u did take 2, it would be up 2 u. I take 2 all the time, and, so do many other people I know. ## @JIk, Cats68 makes a good point. While taking more than prescribed is generally not recommend, the decision would be solely up to you. I recall some past experiences where I used to take an extra one if I truly felt it was necessary for my own peace of mind during a moment of intense pain. In my opinion, the only thing to serious thing to watch out for is having too much Acetaminophen on a regular basis. They actua...

I found these pills from 2000...are they safe to take? ## Hydrocodone does not get dangerous, after the expiration, but it does slowly lose effectiveness and after all these years, the chance of them actually doing anything is very low. In addition, if they contain Acetaminophen, that will also lose effectiveness and doubling up on them isn't a good idea, because taking too much of it, in a day, can be toxic. Are there any other questions?

I just had knee surgery may 3rd.I had Hydromorphone and ran out and because of the slow healing process that i am experencing,My Doc gave me hydrocodone 5/325's.He said to take 1-2 every for pain, but it doesn't seem to be working.Should I wait a while longer to see if it does.I DON'T want to take very high does of acedaminophin because of liver damage. ## You can take Ibprofin with this. ## You are correct to worry about taking too much of the Acetaminophen, not only does it risk liver damage, but it can be toxic if you take too much of it in a day. At doses over 4grams/4,000mgs, it can be toxic and put you in life-threatening danger. Because of this, I'd suggest talking to your doctor, before adjusting the amount you are taking. Are there any other questions or comments...

My wife has been taking hydrocodone for about 2 weeks, her pain has increased to the level of a 10 and the meds only stop pain about 30 minutes out of the 4 hour period. Her doctor is afraid and refuses to up hydrocodone (I think due to new laws) to give her a higher dose. I went so far as to take her to emergency ward yesterday where she was given dilaudid which seem to have broken the cycle temporarily and she felt OK for rest of day on normal dose of hydrocodone. Her doctor is setting her up with a pain specialist but due to heavy scheduling is like 2 to 3 months away. Question.... Since I can not afford the emergency room every day or two, how much hydrocodone can she safely take during that period until she can finally see a pain doctor? We are in the mean time trying to find out w...

Just took Tylenol for pain. DR gave me Hydrocodone for pain after surgery. Scared to take it after reading all this ## Is it safe to take Hydrocodone after Tylenol didn't help? My surgeon gave me Hydrocodone after surgery ## No, you should not double up on the Acetaminophen, taking too much of it in a day, or in any 8 hour period, could result in overdose toxicity, which can be fatal. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, you could try asking your doctor to prescribe something without the Acetaminophen in it. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Verwon, too much actaminophen is bad for your liver. My wifes live...

My wife found a partially dissolved (cannot read anything on itl) pill in the bottom of our washing machine. It is the same shape as a hydrocodone although he does take acne medicine that is called bactrim. which is a much larger pill but it could have just dissolved alot in the washer. the shape is similar. I dont honestly think my son uses drugs but I wanted to be safe ## Without any identifying markings, the only way to be sure would be to have it checked by a lab, which can be rather expensive. However, most Bactrim tablets, and its generics, are shaped the same way, so it is most likely that he had a Bactrim tablet in his pocket, intending to take it, but forgot and it ended up in the washer. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, ...

I have been on percocet 10/325. My little two new generation pharmacy has been closed since Thursday due to the holiday I am out of percocet can i take my hydrocodone 10/325 until late I can get my prococet? Is this safe? ## Hello, Patty! How are you? Have you obtained your medication, now? For future reference, you can do that, if your doctor approves, but you should be aware that the Oxycodone in the Percocet is stronger than the Hydrocodone, so you may not get as much pain relief. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

I'm almost completely well from my cough and doubt I will need it more then one or two more times. Can I have a glass or two of wine with dinner? ## Hello, Monica! How are you? It's really not advisable to mix alcohol with a narcotic, in this case the Hydrocodone. Both of them can cause depression of the central nervous system, which could put you in danger. Learn more Hydrocodone details here. If you're not going to need it too much longer, it would be safest to just wait it out and have your wine after you've finished your course of treatment. Hi, I'm a 27 year old male with 2 thoracic disc protrusions, 1 lumbar protrusion, also have facet disease through entire spine. Also cord impingement in both of the thoracic disc areas. My question is that I'm currently on three 10/325 hydrocodone a day, but I'm finding im needing more than the 3 a day to manage my pain. Is it possible or safe to take 4-5 of these a day? I've been on hydrocodone for 3 years now and at most I only get about an hour of relief from my current dose. ## Hello, Justin! How are you? The main concern is actually the Acetaminophen that's in them, taking too much of it in a day can result in overdose toxicity, which could lead to liver damage, failure or even death. 4 or 5 of them in a day isn't an unreasonable dose, but only your doctor c...

Hydrocodone apap 10/325 is what I take for Headaches on a daily basis.... can not get a refill until tomorrow morning... I did find a jar of some pain reliever called APAP/Codeine 300-30 mg. would there be an interaction if taken today. Last pill I took of Hydro was at 10:30 this morning..12/28/13. Can any one help me with this... I'm a bit nervous in taking another pain pill ## Hello, Mari! How are you? What did you end up doing? The main concern would really be the fact that the Codeine is so much weaker, it likely wouldn't handle your pain very well and with the added Acetaminophen, taking additional pills wouldn't be safe. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth...

I have a bottle of hydrocodone/acetaminophen 7.5-325 15ml. I am use to taking a high dose of tablets at once because my body is so used to it. If i take the liquid, how much would I take for it to work? ## Hello, Lilly! How are you? You really can't keep taking such high amounts, at once, you're far exceeding the dosage limits for the Acetaminophen, which is only 1,000mgs maximum per dose. 6 tablets would be 1,950mgs per dose. It's also not safe to exceed 3,000mgs of Acetaminophen a day, due to the risk of liver damage, liver failure or fatal toxicity. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. If I took one of these, how much alcohol can I consume to still be safe ## You shouldn't consume any, while taking a prescription medication. Alcohol can intensify the side effects, so you may experience more nausea, dizziness and drowsiness than usual, as reported by the FDA. However, if your doctor does approve of you imbibing, please make sure you will not be driving, or operating dangerous machinery. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I just finished a prescription of Hydrocodone - 50 pills were in the prescription. It was Hydrocodon-Acetaminophine 7.5-3.25. I took them over the course of 11 days. When will it be safe for me to have alcohol? ## Hello, Doddy! How are you? In a week or so, once the side effects have pretty much worn off, since it tends to worsen them, so you get more nauseous, dizzy and drowsy than usual. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. My son is 11 months old and had surgery and was prescribed hydro/APAP for his pain. It is 7.5/325 in 15ml. The pharmacy calls it Tylenol 4. I'm just wondering if this is really safe to use on an 11 month old. ## Tylenol 4 is 60 mg Codeine and 325 mg Acetaminophen. It sounds like the prescription is for hydrocodone 7.5 mg/Acetaminophen 325 mg. There is Hydrocodone 7.5 mg/Acetaminophen in Each 5 ml. ## I don't know what type of surgery but that's too much for an 11 month old,I would try plain tylenol,if it doesn't help,I would half the dosage on the hydrocodone. ## My son had posterior medial releases on both feet(tendon release for clubfoot ) and also tissue removed from the bottom of his feet because of his extremely high arches which contributed to his clubfoot. The sur...

If I'm taking Norco 10/325 mg how many pills can be taken in a 24 hour period? ## everywhat the doseage, the Dr. recommends, if you need a increase speak with him about it ## To add some specifics… It is actually the Acetaminophen in these that causes most of the problems related to overdose toxicity, rather than the narcotic Hydrocodone. It isn't safe to exceed 4,000mgs a day, taking more than that may be fatal and, even if you don't suffer fatal effects, you could cause severe liver damage, or go into liver failure. It is often thought to be extremely safe, since it's available over the counter in most countries, but Acetaminophen can actually be a very dangerous substance if used improperly. Do you know what they will substitute the hydrocodone whith ## Hi Rhonda, They're not actually discontinuing this medication. All they are really doing is lessening the amount of Acetaminophen in their products. It started sometime earlier this year, but all manufacturers have to abide by this new law which only allows up to 325 mgs of Acetaminophen. This is primarily due to safety concerns with liver toxicity. Some pain management patients suggest taking an extra Tylenol to make up for it. However I wouldn't necessarily recommend more of something that is considered to be so toxic. Perhaps steering more in the direction of natural alternatives would be a good choice if you're seeking additional relief with less side effects. I hope this helps! ## Thank you so much for your ...

I had this bottle of liquid hydrocodone/acetaminophen 7.5-325 mg since 2014. I just want to know if it's still safe to take? ## No, liquids can go bad much faster than other forms and it could actually make you sick if you take it. The FDA warns that these medications also carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.
