If it's prescribed every four hours, how many times a day is it? ## If you take a dose first thing in the morning and then factor in 8 hours of sleep, that's 5 times in a day. Though technically every 4 hours covers 6 times in a 24 hour period. Using a simplified example: 8 am - wake up, take a dose 12 pm - take 2nd dose 4 pm - take 3rd dose 8 pm - take 4th dose 12 am - take 5th dose, go to sleep sleep until 8 am next day Of course the above is oversimplified. My husband has cancer stage 4. His Dr has prescribed him morphine sulfate 1 pill every 12 hrs & Oxycodone 1 pill every 4 hrs. My ex-husband has had 5 lower back surgeries and has permanent nerve damage. He also has rods and pins in his back that one screw pushed on his spinal cord and had to be removed-lots of scar tissue. He's having a neurologist for many years. My ex has been on fentanyl 100 patch putting a new patch every 48 hours and oxycotin 5 was 6 times a day now he has been cut to 4 a day. Consider this! With the change related to Oxycontin my problem is the OP type of Medication just doesn't work! So... My doctor has added additonal 30mg Oxycodone's to my monthly medication list. The problem we are having is coming up with a near equal dosage. Depending upon which phamacist you talk to we are getting differnet answers. I was prescribed 270 30 mg oxycodone take one every 2-3 hours as needed for pain. Is this a common dose? It seems extreme to me but my prior dose is not effectve anymore. ## It is not common, but if you are tolerant to Oxycodone and have been using it for a long time, then it is no necessarily dangerous, either. Many doctors will try this when their patient has build up a tolerance to their current dose and dosing schedule. Especially if alternative medications don't work. Have been using opiets for over 35 years. Started with auto accident. Doctor prescribed over a long period then passed away. Was addicted and had to purchase illegally locally. I suffer from cluster attacks. My Dr has tried everything under the sun to try to treat them. They are chronic, lasting a year now with no more than a 2 or 3 day break. I usually have one during the day at 10:45 am and 2 at night. Once 1.5 hours after falling asleep and another 1.5 hours after falling asleep after the 1st night time one finishes. The day time one lasts for 30-90 minutes and both night time attacks last 2-3 1/2 hours. 3 days ago, while at his office at 11:45 I had one right there in his office. I take 120 mg of OxyContin twice a day and 4 30 mg oxycodone's a day for breakthrough pain about 4 hours apart from each other. I also have a spinal cord stimulator in my back. The battery in my back has to be charged about once a week. I thought it was the battery in my back that made me so hot!! I am prescribed to take 20 to 40 mgs of this med every 4-6 hours as needed. My dr tried me on Oxycodone ASAP but with my arthritis meds my Rhuematologist prescribes my Dr put me on what I am on now. The general dosing guidelines state that a recommended dose of acetaminophen is: 325 to 650 mg every 4 to 6 hours or 1000 mg every 6 to 8 hours. I suppose if you could manage your pain under those guidelines, then in my opinion you should be fine taking "5mg/650mg" every 4 to 6 hours to remain within safe limits. However, if you're used to taking 30-50mg of oxycodone, I doubt this combination would be nearly as potent. Are you just not able to get your scripts filled for those higher dos...

My dr switched to Oxycodone this month 20 mg. I actually agreed to 10 mg, insurance agreed only to 20mg. I’ve been taking them and I do not like them. I get nauseated and feel weird after taking them. I don’t know why Dr switched? I feel I’m not getting control of my pain as I did with Oxycodone. 12 hours is terrible waiting out! ## If your getting nauseous and feel weird the dose may be too high for you. When you say Oxycodone 10/325 that was Percocet maybe having the Acetamnophen in it helped more with the pain. The diazapam is twice a day, which is what most of my meds are.... Except the Oxycodone which is every four hours.....
