I've been taking op 30s for just a couple days but I'm not sure how long they take to start working can someone plz tell me ## Hello, Alize! How are you? It should have some effect shortly after taking it, though it may take a month to reach its full efficacy level in your body, but it is an analgesic. Has it been helping your pain, at all? You may need a dosage adjustment, if it's not helping. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## This is crazy, its supposed to be immediate relief. It shouldnt have to build up to a certain level in your body.

how long does it take a oxycontin 80mg op to start working after you swallow it ## About 15 to 20 minutes, though it can vary some depending on your own body, as well as if you've recently eaten. Learn more Oxycodone details here. It is a time released formulation, so it won't have as much of an immediate effect as the regular or instant release, though. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have a Rx for OxyContin which is a month old. Can I still have it filled? ## Prescriptions are usually able to be filled for up to one year from the date it was issued. ## After an hour it's fully kicked in for me. ## I take those but I find chewing them makes them come on faster. Also it works better for me. ## I'm asking this for a friend of mine who takes 30s 3 times a day....

If I take an OxyContin 80 mg at 10 PM Monday night, and on Tuesday morning I take one 80 mg + one 30 mg Oxycodone at 7 AM would it be working in my body by 8:30 that morning? Thanks ## Yes, based on your dosage schedule I'd say it would definitely be working in your body by then, regardless of whether you take immediate release or a delayed release formulation. For instance, conventional oxycodone has a peak plasma concentration in your blood stream of about 1 hour after taking it, whereas the time-released version would reach its peak after about 3 hours. Half life can be up to about 4 hours, and traces of it remain in your body for up to 72 hours (but by that time you would probably have taken your next dose if you are on a regular pain management schedule). Hope this helps! ## Ho...

Hi, I've been on 30mg of oxycodone a day_-20 mg on waking and 2 sep. doses 5 mg through day. I have a severe neuropathic/nerve pain and an upregulated central nervous system which includes akathisia. The oxycodone had been a life saver. It also stopped the terrible depression and terror I had been feeling since a bad medication reaction brought on this whole syndrome. One more 5 mg a day would have been really needed, but at least I had started to feel I could survive and life was starting to improve. I was really staring to enjoy living again much of the time. Long story, govt. steps in, no more oxycodone. Saw lovely pain specialist, and he's put me on oxycontin 30 mg morning, 15 mg night. This was 6 days ago. Each time I've taken oxycontin, instead of the unagitating, untw...

I have Vicodin but I don't really know how much of it I should take to help with the pain. I have only taken one dose of the oxy ## Oxycontin is a time released formulation of Oxycodone and it will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes, after you take it, to start working. Then it is slowly released for approximately 12 hours. As to the Vicodin, you shouldn't take more of that than what your doctor, or pharmacist has instructed. The first question is the subject line. The second question is my directions state take one every day yet my BP is high several hours before my next dose. I guess taking it twice a day at a lower dosage might be in order. Of course I will run that by my Dr. The question is what potential damage am I incurring during those hours before the next daily dose ? The third question is, does oxycontin/oxycodone have contraindications taken a few hours before or after the Hyzaar ? ## Hello, Capri! How are you? No, you need to take it consistently every day, don't adjust your dosage or take an additional dosage, unless your doctor instructs you to do so. It is normal to have blood pressure fluctuations throughout the day and pre-med when it's time for the next dose. However, it takes abou...

If anyone can help please comment!!! ## Hi, Paul! Sorry that it's not working well for you. There have actually been many posts similar to yours, since the formulation of the Oxycodone was changed. Many people have said that it doesn't work well for them anymore, plus it seems to be causing some odd, unexpected side effects. The original formulation is no longer available, you can only get Oxycontin in this new formulation that's been specially formulated to help prevent abuse. Learn more Oxycontin details here. 80 mg op received this month. What the heck is purdue doing to me my stomach hurts, my pain is almost all they way back. I'm in agony. since they have changed the oxycontin, it DOES NOT WORK. ## There have been many complaints about it not working, as well as it causing unusual side effects. I am very sorry to read that you also had problems with this new formulation. The only thing I can really suggest, other than taking to your doctor about using an alternative medication, is reporting the problem to both Purdue and the FDA at the following numbers: Purdue Pharma number for drug safety/medication issues: 888.726.7535 FDA MedWatch number: 800-332-1088 Are there any questions or comments? ## if attorney's can bring suite against companies for damage done from types of drug's, why cant they bring suite for changing a drug that DID work until they changed it and made it cause alot of side effects and there is not...

I'm having break thru pain which is seriously painful. What could My pain Dr do? ## Hello, SolidMike! How are you? Since this is a time released medication, your doctor could prescribe an instant or regular release one, in addition to it, to help with breakthrough pain. There are quite a few choices that can be prescribed. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. He just is in pain all day everyday and I hate to see him like this. Thank you very much. ## Tell your son that he should try fentaly patches (not sure of spelling. Sounds like this(Fen tin all). I am in pain management and I currently take oxy 30mg 3x's a day... my doctor is willing to switch me to something else if I want, since the oxys do not provide enough relief. when I asked her what kind of dose I would start at the only thing she would match mg for mg would be morphine..opana she will only start me at 20mg 2 per day. does anyone know if this would be equal to the oxy I take now?? I have read all about how opana is supposed to be about twice as strong as oxy but still I was afraid to switch.. also, does opana " feel " the same as oxy??? thanks to all for reading and replying, HOUSE ## Hello, House! How are you? Morphine is actually weaker than Oxycodone, so matching mg for mg likely won't work. If you were taking 30mgs of Oxycontin, you'd need 45mgs o...

The doctor at the pain clinic that I have just started going to has given me 15mg of OxyContin 2x per day with 10mg of oxycodone 3x per day. I had been taking at least 6 10mg of oxycodone a day from my neurologist. I have ran out of the oxycodone and the OxyContin doesn't seem to help me. How does the OxyContin work? Is 15mg OxyContin a common time release med to help severe chronic pain? ## Yes, Oxycontin is a time released formulation, the medication is slowly released over a period of 12 hours, so it will not affect you the same as the regular release formulation. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. How long have you been taking it, now?

My PM doc changed my med to oxycontin 15 mg every 12 hour with oxycodone 5 mg every 8 if needed. Not working great. Only gave me 2 week supply with appt.As opposed to the usisland 30 day no appt. At the end of the 2 werks. As he has been resistant to all suggestions including from staff,do you think the 2 weeks is because he might be willing to increase? ## No one can know the mind of your doctor, but it is a possibility. When do you see them, again? The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. It's common to have patients come in more frequently, at first, to work with the dosages to see what gets their pain under control. Is ther...
