I'm switching from zoloft to paxil. I was feeling very bad on zoloft. I'm still on zoloft as my psychiatrist is tapering me off of it by having me cut from 100 to 50 mg for 14 days and then that's it. I've been on the paxil for three days. How long will it take for the paxil to start overcoming the bad side effects and withdrawal of zoloft? ## Hello, Keithman! How are you? About 2 to 3 weeks and perhaps a month, before it reaches its full efficacy level in your body. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, weight changes and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Its probably too late but it has become more apparent that Paxil can be problematic for alot. Includimg myself. I have been on it for 2 months and I started on 20mg and after a week I was to u...

Is there. A dose you have to reach before it works ## Hello, Theresa! How are you? Usually, there is a minimum and maximum effective dose, but they are not the same for everyone. It's going to vary from person to person. One person may do well and get great results from the lowest dose available, but someone else may require the highest. There are also people that it may not work for, at all. Learn more Luvox details here. I've responded to several of your posts about the various medications, which ones have you actually tried? Are they just not working for you? ## I have tried many Effexor Zoloft lexapro also used abilify as an add on for a short time and zyprexa for a short time added on. I was most recently on paxil and now am tapering to luvox I never here from you again can...

I have been on paxil over 6 weeks now up to 60 Mgs whAt is the longest this can take to start working or does it mean if its bit working by now it just won't work for me please respond ## Hello, Theresa! How are you doing? 6 weeks is the maximum time it takes to reach it's full efficacy level in the body, in many people it reaches that level in as little as 4 weeks. Learn more Paxil details here. But how long have you been at this dosage? You really need to be at one dosage for that period of time, in order to see if it's going to help you, because every time you raise the dosage you cause more side effects to occur, which can make it seem like it isn't working. ## Don't always listen to what the "supposed" tested length is told to you as this will be quite d...

Please let me know what you take it for, how much you take and how long it took to work? Please respond. ## Hi, Theresa! Has it had any effect, yet? It can take about 4 to 6 weeks for a medication like Paxil to reach its full level of effectiveness in your body. Generally, that's about the same time when you'll notice any side effects reaching their peak in intensity, then starting to taper off. If it's had no effect by then, that means it most likely isn't the right medication for you. Learn more Paxil details here. I've never tried it, but it worked very well for my ex-husband, he was on it for years. What others have you tried? ## No I have felt no improvement at all. I just was raised from 20 to 30 Mgs a few days ago but I have been on it almost 4 weeks now. Do y...

About 5 or 6 weeks ago I started Lexapro. I was on paxil for about 20 years and it felt like it just pooped out and stopped working so i needed a change. First we tried wellburtirn, that didnt work out too well then Lexapro. worked up to 15mg at this point at about week 6 and still having panic and anxiety feelings. I dont know if I need an increase, more time or what. I am also on buspar 30mg twice a day. I just feel like its been so long since ive felt "myself'. I m getting so frustrated and not feeling like playing spin the wheel of fortune game to try another med. I feel like im in and endless battle and im never going to win. Just looking for advice or some words of wisdom form others who possibly have had similar issues with Lexapro and the time it takes to actually start ...

I just started taking Paxil two days ago. As of this moment I feel sick and depressed. I started taking Paxil after two weeks of Effexor made my symptoms much worse. I feel like I'm hanging onto my sanity by a thread. All these brief ups and and never ending downs are just too much to deal with on a daily basis. Please Paxil work your magic!! ## Hello, Ed! How are you? Unfortunately, many antidepressants can cause a temporary worsening of symptoms for a few weeks, before things change and your symptoms start to improve. I take one for PMS/perimenopausal irritability and overtime we adjust the dosage, I just tend to expect it for about 3 weeks, before I see an improvement. The FDA lists Paxil as being an SSRI antidepressant and its typical side effects are listed as possibly includin...

This is my 24th day of taking Paxil. For the first 5 days I was on 5mg, and then I have been taking 10 mg for anxiety, as that is how it's prescribed. My anxiety got worse since I started to take this med. It has now been 3 weeks.. I am wondering when it is going to start working? ## Hello, Zoya! How are you? Has there been any change, yet? It can take about 4 to 5 weeks for it to reach its full level of efficacy in your body, at one consistent dose, to see how well it will work for you. How long have you been taking the current dosage? The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight changes.

Do I need to wean off Viibryd if I only took for 2 weeks? My anxiety is through the roof and I'd rather just go back to Paxil and deal with the weight gain. Can I just switch back without issues or do I need to taper down the 20 mg of Viibryd like when I started it? ## I need to know the same thing been on Viibryd 3 weeks Panic is intense can’t handle it I think I felt better on paxil ## Our bodies all are subject to respond differently to quitting cold-turkey or tapering off something like Viibryd 2-3 weeks into treatment. However, working closely with your prescribing doctor on a tapering plan is probably the safest method for quitting, in my own humble opinion, especially if you don't know whether it's deemed necessary or not and are left undecided on a specific app...

i have suffered from panic attacks for about 4 years now. Dr gave me Ativan to take when I felt one coming on. Earlier this year the Ativan seemed to quit working and the attacks were happening daily. Dr started me on Paxil 4 months ago. It has really helped with my attacks but I gained 30 lbs on it. Friday I was started on a viibryd starter pack. Today is my second day with it and I can already feel the attacks coming back under the surface. Is this normal? ## Hello, Jon! How are you? Yes, that can be normal. Usually, you'll experience withdrawal effects from stopping the one medication, accompanied with side effects of starting the new one. The FDA lists other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth. If it gets too severe, you should co...

I have been on Paxil before- and it worked wonders for me. I have now been without it for a few years as I lost my health insurance and could not afford it. I found several websites that I can get it without an RX, but am wondering how safe that is. Has anyone purchased Paxil this way? ## It is not safe, Paxil contains the active ingredient Paroxetine and, in the U.S., it requires a prescription. When you order from a website that doesn't require a prescription, they are usually of foreign origin and the medications have not been approved for safety and efficacy by the FDA. It is available as a generic now, under the name of the active ingredient Paroxetine and a 30 day supply of the 40mg tablets only costs around $25 to $30. Have you considered trying it?

Hi, I've been taking Paxil 30 mg. Twice daily for approximately close to 20 years now. I feel like I need a medication to take with Paxil at this point to be beneficial to me as my depression & anxiety are worse than other times. Does anyone know of a supplement that will help and that I can safely take with Paxil? Maybe another anti depressant to go with my Paxil as I do not want to stop the Paxil. ## Have you discussed this issue with your doctor? It is entirely normal for your body to get used to a medication that you take regularly, and for it to stop working as well. The time frame can vary from person to person. When this happens, you usually do need to try a different medication, or a different dosage of the existing medication. The FDA lists the typical side effects of P...

Starting Paxil from Mirtazapine, all the hype of Mirtazapine is wrong. It works for about 3 weeks, then pooooooph done. Has anyone tapered to Paxil from Mirtazapine? IF SO, WAS IT PAINLESS OR POINTLESS? ## Not every medication works for everyone that tries it. I am sorry the Mirtazapine didn't work well for you, but there are many people that do experience good results with it. Paxil always worked well for my ex-husband, though I've not taken it myself. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings, and weight changes. Can anyone that's switched from one to the other chime in with their experiences?

Started Paxil about 2 months ago and I have quickly gained 20 pounds. I can't stop eating, constantly crave sweets (as I'm eating a package of s'mores Pop Tarts). Paxil is helping me so much though, I can't decide if I should be happy (but unhappy with my body), calm, and chubby (possibly bordering on fat soon) ... or listless, socially anxious, and skinny.... just seeing if anyone else has a similar experience ## Hello, Vincent! How are you? Paxil is classified by the FDA as an SSRI and most of them are very well known to cause weight gain in people that take them. My ex-husband had the same problem, it was the only one that consistently worked for him, but it caused a lot of weight gain. Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth....

Has anyone noticed that taking generic Paxil is not as effective as the real deal? I'm having a terrible time with recurring anxiety symptoms. ## While patients may experience slight differences between medications, the generic market is highly regulated in both the U.S. and Australia (where I live). The drug concentration is the same within the tablet, it will have the same absorption profile, same extent of absorption. Therefore in all likelyhood it should work exactly the same (within acceptable limits) as the original brand. The only changes present could be due to the inactive ingredients within the formulation which a patient may be sensitive or intolerant to. While this does not affect the effectiveness of the medication it may introduce side-effects.

i'e been on Paxil (20 mg)for about 2 years to calm menopausal hot flushes. It's worked like a charm, and given me wonderful sleeps. However, after an emotional trauma, I had one sleepless night, and suddenly, all the symptoms of Paxil withdrawal have appeared. I feel thirsty all the time and my head feels like I'm having mild electric shocks, together with dizziness and nausea. I tried to explain this to a pharmacist, here in Mexico, where I'm on holiday. She didn't know what I was talking about. Any feedback on his would be appreciated. ## Hello, Rachelle! How are you doing? Are you feeling any better? That is very odd. Insomnia can cause those types of issues, but they certainly shouldn't be ongoing. Will you be back in the states soon to consult your doctor ab...

Hi, I'm a 31 y/o male and in March of 2014 I began to think that I had cancer. Specifically a brain tumor. Well after a couple of trips to the ER I was recommended to a psych dr. My dr said that due to my father and sister having anxiety problems I probably have general anxiety disorder. I was prescribed 20mg of Paxil and 1mg of Ativan to help with first couple weeks while my body gets adjusted to the Paxil. The Paxil worked wonderful, in fact it worked so well I decided to get off the drug cold turkey while my wife and I tried to have a baby. My wife is going after being off it for 4/5 weeks I began to have terrible anxiety again. I began to project the worse possible scenarios. I did not want to harm myself or anyone else but I was afraid that it could turn into that. You read all...

I take both of these meds on a regular basis and have for over 3 years. I am moving to Pensacola Florida, I am worried about finding a Dr. Who will write these meds for me. I also take 100 mg of trazadone at bed time . It works great after about an hour and a half of being very irritable, restless and shaky. My Dr does not seem too concerned about this side effect. My question is does anyone know of a good Dr in Pensacola that would write these scripts considering my medical history. And does anyone relate to the side effects of trazadone. Thanks for any response.

I have tried many meds on paxil three weeks just went from 20 to 30 today no improvement in my OCD anxiety depression and PTSD has it worked for anyone if do how long did it take please help ## I have now been on paxil over four weeks three weeks At 20 and over one on thirty no improvement at all I Am terrified nothing will work did anyone have this happen ## Hi Theresa, Based on my research, it can take 4-6 weeks for Paxil to take effect. Keep in mind that medication effects everyone differently, so no matter what kind of experience someone else has (positive or negative) that cannot determine what effect it will have on you. If you don't notice a change after a couple weeks, you may need to consider trying a different medication or other methods of treatment. I actually took Paxil...

I have been on Paxil CR for 2 years and have gained over 80 pounds. The Dr. says Paxil is not the cause. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Also what is another drug I could try in place of the Paxil? ## I also had some what gane, about 30 pounds in the past yr. I went back to my doctor and he had me try different meds but paxil cr or prozac was the only thing that seemed to work for me , I stay with paxil because ,on prozac you could tell I was using something. If you fiend something that helps keep the weight off let me now please.good luckwith this. James ## paxil, if anything, will decrease appetitie. I think your weight gain is probably due to eating wrong, not exercising enough, and have your thyroid checked. I have been taking Paxil for 3 years and haven't had any troubl...
