I have severe RA, hip and femur full of bullet fragments and severe muscle loss. I have been taking 3 x's a day mscontin 30mg. Dr put me on 30mg of Opana 2 x's daily. I took first 2hours and not helping yet with my pain. How long does it take to kick in fully? Thank you ## The ER designates it as being a time released medication, so it doesn't all take effect, at once, it is slowly released over a period of time, but you should start to feel some relief within a few minutes of taking it. Has there been any change? The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.

How long does opana 40mg work for in your system? I took half of one just because I had nothing else for the pain. Then I tried to take my regular medicine and it's like it stopped it from working. How long till this goes away and I can take my regular medicine? It is the ER tablets btw. ## Hi Brooke - the Extended Release Opana is meant to work in your body for about 12 hours, with a half life of about 9-11 hours.[1] May I ask what your other medicine is? I was wounded in Combat. My doc has had me on Oxycontin with Oxycodone for breakthru pain. The Opana is WORLDS better for pain without the euphori. I highly recommend it. ## the Opana is slightly stronger than the oxycontin depending upon the old doseage, the Opana also has hi sedation effects so please be careful if behind a steering wheel

I'm quiting Opana using Suboxone. I've gradually come down from Opana ER 40 mg to 10 mg over a period of 6 months, and am switching today to Suboxone film. Dr told me to wait 24 to 36 hrs before starting Subs (wait till I can't stand the withdrawals any longer). Normally on 10 mg Opana I start to feel withdrawals within 12 hrs, can't get comfortable in my skin, can't sleep, restless leg etc. Problem is I ran out of 10 mg yesterday so the single last Opana I took was an ER 40 mg. I was in a severe accident in 2006 that caused many spinal fractures, herniated disks, and severe damage to my right knee. I've been seeing a pain management doctor who has prescribed me Opana 40 & 20mg. ER's to be taken every 12 hours. He also prescribes me Mobic for joint pain. The Opana does help with my spinal injuries, but doesn't seem to help my knee pain at all. The Mobic isn't working either. Should the Opana be helping me with my knee pain at all? I have been prescribed just about all of the available opiate medications including; oxycontin, methadone, the Duragesic fentynil patch, morphine, and nothing seems to be working. Is there anything available that would help my knee pain short of knee replacement surgery? Any information would be greatly appreciated...

Do the new ones have same effects? ## In theory they should, but just like when Oxycontin was reformulated, there have been people who have complained and said they do not work as well as they used to. The only thing you can really do is try them and see how well they work for you. are the green Opana 20 time relesed if so how long does it take to kick in ## The green opana 20mg that are manufactured by Endo Pharmaceuticals Inc. are extended released tablets. The length of time it takes to "kick in" can vary for each individual and is also based on whether or not you take it with a meal. Having it with fatty food may prolong the absorption time due to a slower metabolism. I would think that you should be able to notice it when the drug kicks in, do you not? I don't have any personal experience with taking opana, so I can only assume that you feel the narcotic effects when it is absorbed. I hope this helps!

As to why it doesn't feel like you took anything, are you tolerant to opiates? That is a fairly low dosage, so if you're used to taking it, or usually take higher doses of other narcotics, this dosage might be too low for you. transition from methadone to opana30. ## Opana contains the potent narcotic Oxymorphone, so in theory, switching from Methadone to it should not cause any problems, as long as your doctor carefully calibrates the dosage. However, Methadone does tend to create a problem, because even when you are switched to another narcotic, it tends to make some people still experience some withdrawal effects, such as rebound pain, stomach pain, chills and vomiting. These types of issues are why many people that use it to try to beat drug addiction actually end up never being really drug free, because they have to take lifelong maintenance doses of the Methadone.
