Was taking perc5-325 for 4 yrs every 12 hrs. Got to the point it wasn't working for me animore .now I'm on ms 15mg twice a day .any suggestions on this pill .kinda a nervous. Thank you. ## Hello, Mariah! How are you? MS Contin contains the active ingredient Morphine. The FDA classifies it as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. It would basically be equivalent to taking a 10/325mg Percocet every 12 hours, however, the MS Contin is time released, so you may get better pain control with it. Are there any other questions or concerns?

Hi all, I need some help. I was taking 2 - 5mg percs a day for my fibromyalgia, unfortunately I have now developed two tumours and a cyst on my hip which cause excruciating pain. My doctor tried me on a gamut of anti-inflammatories but due to my colitis those were not tolerated, she also tried a couple other pain meds, those and the 5mg percs were not cutting through the pain. She just gave me 5mg morphine sulphate 4 x day until my mri and surgery. I have taken one morphine pill about a half an hour ago and am still in the same amount of pain. How long does the morphine take to work? If the morphine doesn't work, is there anything I can suggest other than percs? I worry that I will look like I am drug seeking but I cannot function at all with the pain and haven't gotten much sle...

They gave my mom 4mg of morphine in her iv. How long do the effects last, ## Hi jen, According to nhtsa.gov, morphine is said to have a short half-life of 1.5 to 7 hours. They go on to note that close to ninety percent of a single morphine dose is excreted through urine within 72 hours. However, on the contrary, a different report coming from nih.gov states that morphine has a "plasma" (blood) half-life of 2.5 to 3.0 hours. So when it comes to IV administration, this is probably the half-life I'd refer to for a more accurate estimate. Though this is mostly speculative, it's been thought that after 3 half-life's, a medication like this is typically out of your body / no longer working to relieve pain. There are also other important factors that can determine how long ...

I got an inj. of morphine in my leg yesterday, as I suffer from chronic back pain. My dr gave me the inj. around 12:40pm yesterday after lunch, and I'm wondering how long it lasts, as it did help, and this morning I was a bit spaced out. So is that inj. still working to control the pain? ## Hello, Tweeter! How are you? Generally, it only last a few hours, but the side effects may linger longer, which could explain why you were feeling spaced out. I'm taking 15mg of slow release morphine 2x a day and feel no relief what so ever. It's been 5 days now. Should I request higher doses? ## Hello, Sarge! How are you? I am sorry that you're in pain. And yes, it may be best to speak to your doctor about exploring other options, such as raising your dosage, or trying a different medication. Just be careful not to demand any particular option, since that could cause them to assume you're drug seeking. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. I took 16 mg of suboxone at 4am Saturday morning and got my morphine filled now. Is it safe to take it after 16 hours? ## Hello, Scott! How are you? No, the Naloxone in the Suboxone will prevent the Morphine from having any effect, you usually need to wait at least 72 hours, before other narcotics will work, again, unless your doctor instructs otherwise. I take 15 mg morphine 3 times a day. It's not helping anymore and I was told to not just stop taking it. How should I work my way off of it? ## You may need a higher dosage, or to try a different medication. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as constipation, dry mouth, headache, nausea, and dizziness. If you really want to stop taking it, a slow taper is best and your doctor should be able to help you set up a proper and safe schedule for doing so. Are you on any other medications?

My doctor gave me Morphine Sulfate ER 30 mg tablets and said they would last longer for pain than what I was taking, which was Oxycodone 10/325. I have a morphine infusion pump that releases 21.474 mg daily continuous flow plus I can give myself a bolus of 1.50 mg up to 10 x a day making my daily level release of morphine 35.886/day continuous flow. My doctor prescribed D-amphetamine salts XR 25 mg - 2 x/day but because (i've been taking this for a few years at slowly increased doses to get where I am now) they were a generic and did not work I asked him and my insurance company approved the change, he put me on 20 MG IR 2x/day brand name by Teva. I've read no, but that your liver metabolizes it as morphine? Bottom line - does it contain morphine and what is the difference between contain and metabolize as?? ## No, it does not contain Morphine, Oxycodone contains Oxycodone, a different type of narcotic opiate. Some of the metabolites are similar, but not the same and lab work will be able to distinguish the difference. As a narcotic, it may cause side effects, such as: nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and constipation. What it contains would be the active ingredient, the metabolites are what appears on lab work after it has been processed through the body. I know that is alot of info I just need to knoww. So if you know any of it let me know. THANKS ## If the Morphine ER didn't work for you, then it makes sense that the MS Contin also didn't, because they are both time released Morphine tablets. I am new to this fourm, and I have a few questions someone may be able to answer. I have chronic back pain as a result of Cauda Equina Snydrome, and an injury at L5/S1. My Pain Mgt doc made a med change about 3 wks ago. I was one taking Oxycodone 15 MG tablets, but I was still having a LOT of breakthrough pain. As of 3 wks ago, my doc ADDED Morphine Sulf 15 MG's SRT. The combination of the two meds appears to be working but there are still some minor pain issues. I spoke with my doc the other day and we will talk again on Feb 2nd. He told me he thinks going to the 15 MG Morphine Sulf every 8 hrs, vs 12 hrs will help. He also wanted to see if I could go to 10 MG's of Oxycodone as needed 8 hrs, vs 15 MG's of Oxycodone as needed every 8 hrs. In sum, the 15's MG's of Mor...

I take 145mg of methadone daily .my question is this.i just took 60mg of morphine will i feel it i do no other drugs. this is the first time ive used anything but methadone in 2 years ## Unfortunately, in any medical situation, a patient has to be their own best advocate. Doctors often prescribe medications according to their experience with how well something has worked for other patients. There really isn't a direct answer to your question, as no one can tell you how you would react to Morphine. Since medications can affect everyone differently, some people get great results from taking it, but there are others that it doesn't work for. I do know based on research that Methadone is considered to be 3-4 times stronger than oral Morphine (oxymorphone). And given the high dose of...

How are you? Fentanyl is the strongest available, it's over 80 times stronger than Morphine. Your doctor will most likely have you start at the 25mcgs or 50mcgs dosage, since it's so potent to see how it works for you. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mout...
