how long for iv morphine to wear off
1 Reply RSS
They gave my mom 4mg of morphine in her iv. How long do the effects last, ## Hi jen, According to nhtsa.gov, morphine is said to have a short half-life of 1.5 to 7 hours. They go on to note that close to ninety percent of a single morphine dose is excreted through urine within 72 hours. However, on the contrary, a different report coming from nih.gov states that morphine has a "plasma" (blood) half-life of 2.5 to 3.0 hours. So when it comes to IV administration, this is probably the half-life I'd refer to for a more accurate estimate. Though this is mostly speculative, it's been thought that after 3 half-life's, a medication like this is typically out of your body / no longer working to relieve pain. There are also other important factors that can determine how long ... ...

I am new to this fourm, and I have a few questions someone may be able to answer. I have chronic back pain as a result of Cauda Equina Snydrome, and an injury at L5/S1. My Pain Mgt doc made a med change about 3 wks ago. I was one taking Oxycodone 15 MG tablets, but I was still having a LOT of breakthrough pain. As of 3 wks ago, my doc ADDED Morphine Sulf 15 MG's SRT. The combination of the two meds appears to be working but there are still some minor pain issues. I spoke with my doc the other day and we will talk again on Feb 2nd. He told me he thinks going to the 15 MG Morphine Sulf every 8 hrs, vs 12 hrs will help. He alos wanted to see if I could go to 10 MG's of Oxycodone as needed 8 hrs, vs 15 MG's of Oxycodone as needed every 8 hrs. In sum, the 15's MG's of Mor... ...

How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. He might be creating part of the problem himself, if he's calling doctors or going to appointments and asking them to prescribe this medication. It is a highly addictive, controlled substance and most doctors will view that as being drug seeking behavior. What he needs to do is set up an appointment with a pain management specialist and make sure that they g... ...

I was wondering I had a pill I know it was morhine. it was an oblong blue shape and color. I know that is alot of info I just need to knoww. So if you know any of it let me know. THANKS ## If the Morphine ER didn't work for you, then it makes sense that the MS Contin also didn't, because they are both time released Morphine tablets. I take 145mg of methadone daily .my question is this.i just took 60mg of morphine will i feel it i do no other drugs. this is the first time ive used anything but methadone in 2 years ## Unfortunately, in any medical situation, a patient has to be their own best advocate. Doctors often prescribe medications according to their experience with how well something has worked for other patients. There really isn't a direct answer to your question, as no one can tell you how you would react to Morphine. Since medications can affect everyone differently, some people get great results from taking it, but there are others that it doesn't work for. I do know based on research that Methadone is considered to be 3-4 times stronger than oral Morphine (oxymorphone). And given the high dose of... ...

Morphine 30 sulfate er made by Mylan does not help relieve pain does anyone else have that problem ## I too am finding morphine sulphate ER manufactured by Mylan is not as effective. Almost like going through early withdrawal symptoms, for example, morphine usually paralyzes intestinal movement and causes constipation. I am having cramping and looser stools. I question the correct amount contained in the tablets. ## Sorry to hear about your recent experiences. Medications can and often do affect everyone differently, whereas some people get great results, but there are others that it inevitably just doesn't work for no matter how much they take. i took morphine about 5 hours ago is it safe to take a xanax now
1 Reply RSS
i took a half of a morphine 30mg about 5 hours ago is it safe to take a xanax now ## Hi Missy, From what I'm seeing online, there are moderate drug interactions listed between Morphine and Xanax; with the potential of it causing an increased risk for impaired thinking/judgement, dizziness, drowsiness, and an overall inability to concentrate. So if this is a concern to you I would probably wait at least double that amount of time in between doses, just to be on the safe side. For the record, nhtsa.gov states that Morphine has a relatively short half-life of anywhere between 1 1/2 to 7 hours. This means that if you took 15mg's, then an estimated 5 hours later (1 1/2 to 7hrs) you'd still have half of that dose (7.5mg) left working in your body. Waiting an additional 5 hours tho... ...

how strong is a 30mg morphine
7 Replies RSS
I have been on and off 5-325 and 10-325 oxycodon for about 6 months now I was wondering how a 30mg morphine tablet would affect me I'm 110 pounds if that helps any. I'm afraid something could happen I've never taken it before and I wasn't sure if cutting them in half would work better? ## Hello, Sam! How are you? Oxycodone is one a half times stronger than Morphine, so you'd need 15mgs of it to equal each 10mgs of Oxycodone. Thus, 30mgs of it would be like taking 20mgs of Oxycodone, at once. The FDA classifies these medications as being narcotic analgesics, so they carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. It may be too strong for you, if you aren't opiate tolerant. What are ... ...

Ive taken small doses of opiods before, and one 15mg abg, but not on a regular basis. I was just wondering how long tye effects will last, amd when it is safe to drink. And what are warning signs I should look out for? I think im going to be ok though. ## IThe drug is morphine sulfate extended-release, generic for MS Contin 15 mg tablets. It is odd you would be prescribed an extended-release medication if you are only taking it occasionally. MS Contin (and its generics) are used for people requiring continuous pain relief and is taken every 12 hrs. MS Contin Extended Release lasts 12 hrs so that xx mg does of morphine is being slowly released rather than the full dose working immediately (but lasting only 4-6 hrs). MS Contin is NOT intended to be taken as needed so it may be a large enou... ...

Doesn't he need it to work 24 hours straight? ## The orange, oval tablet with the marking 60 E655 contains 60mgs of Morphine in a controlled release formulation, it is a generic for MS Contin. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it may be habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and constipation. The M-Eslon is just another name brand for Morphine. My mother has spinal stenosis which cases her great pain. She uses B transpatches 50. which provides no relief. What could be used as an alternative? She is 84. ## I have cervical spinal stenosis. I have used fentanyl patches and lollipops in the past to control my pain. It is very strong but can be given in very small doses and due to her age I doubt a pain specialist would give her any grief over it. Dilaudid also works well for me but I am a poor metaboliser so not many opiatess work for me. You might want to ask about either one of these pain meds. ## Yes, the Fentanyl patches are also what I would suggest asking her doctor about, it is a very strong narcotic, over 80 times stronger than the Morphine, so the patches come in either 0.25mcgs or 0.50mcgs. They are time released and eac... ...

can i take suboxone and morphine sulfate together
1 Reply RSS
I take suboxone 12/3 mg once a day. Can I take one 100 mg morphine sulphate with it once a day? ## Hi Rob, According to umm.edu, suboxone shouldn't be taken with any opioids (i.e. morphine), since it can block its effects and potentially send you into immediate withdrawals - accompanied by a number of undesirable side effects such as increased anxiety, insomnia, nausea, difficulty breathing, sweating, cramps, etc. Having read that, it sounds to me like the wisest thing to do would probably be to contact your doctor about alternative ways to manage your pain in the event that suboxone 'or' morphine doesn't get the job done on their own. Some feedback I've read in other threads here even recommend trying methadone over suboxone; stating that it works better for their p... ...
