My dr lied to me and said she was giving me 2mg and .5 of oral dilaudid. When I explained .5 didn't do s*** for me last night, she said she would up the doses so cold get some sleep. I was up till after 4 am crying for the last 3 weeks. ## Hello, Heather! How are you? There is no .5mg of oral Dialudid available in the U.S. The dosing starts at 2mgs. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. What do you feel your doctor lied about? I apologize, but I'm not understanding what you're asking. ## I usually take 8 mg dilaudid every 2-3 hours. By mistake I took two 8mg at the same time. I have been on one form or another of narcotics for many years due to a...

I am having withdrawals from my regular medication which is oxycodone. I'm recently prescribed dilaudid 8mg for pain - how long will this medication work for, and will it take away the wd symptoms? ## It should help, each 8mg Dilaudid is equivalent to 21.33mgs of Oxycodone. They are usually taken every 4 to 6 hours. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I found dilaudid 8mg pills that may be 4 years old. Are these pills still good to stop pain?

Just switched from methadone 30mg daily for chronic neck pain. Herniated c3456. I was taking it 3x a day and it just stopped working. PM Dr switched me to dilauded 8mg 3xs a day. How ever it last about 3-4 hours. Is this normal ## You may need to speak to your doctor about adjusting the dose, so it works longer, or perhaps switching to the time released formulation to keep your pain under control longer. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. How long have you been taking it? ## 5 days now. I called my Dr he told me in the visit that it may not last ## I have been taking methadone 5 mg 3 times a day, I asked my dr to ween me off ...

My regular pain meds where not working for my chronic back pain so I went the hospital they gave me a small shot of Dilaudid. November 3rd I went to my pain management told them they had me do a UA, signed paper for them to get copy from hospital. Had another appointment on 12-1 they said nothing then on 12-29 they told me they couldn't see me anymore cause my UA from November showed positive for Dilaudid. I told Them there was no way that could be possible, none the less they didn't believe me, now I have no pain doc, now what? ## Due to people getting "hooked" on this type of medication, the doctors do not like to give it out. Yes, it does come in pill form - 8mg or 3 mg. If you have all your paperwork from the time you had your shot at the hospital etc. and can show i...

I am allergic to Vicodin and Percocet so for my last 2 surgical procedures have been prescribed 4mg oral Dilaudid. I understand that it is a very powerful pain reliever but I get minimal relief from it so is it possible that my pain receptors are not responsive to this type of medication? The only other pain med that I take is Lodine (NSAID) for arthritis. It seems that I get more pain relieve from 2 Tylenol but am still in alot of pain with that. Both times after surgery I have stopped taking the Dilaudid after 3 days because I'm still in pain and on top of that constipated. Has anyone had this same minimal response and any suggestions on other pain meds I could use if needed? ## Odd. I too had little relief from Dilaudid. I was in a motorcycle accident, and they gave me that after...

I am curious as to how often this medication can be taken. Currently I take it every 8 hours, but it doesn't last that long. ## I take 6mg diludid suppossitory (2 3mg )with 50 mg Phenegan shots every 3-4 hours for my Gastroparesis Episodes. I have build up a tolerance to the drugs and have to take high doses now. The body does seem to build up immunities to the two drugs and I have to up the doseage about every year. We are trying 75 mg Demerol now instead of diludid to try and break the cycle, but it doesn't seem to be working as well. ## The doctors i have dealt with as to using dilaudid some will let u have 1 mg every 3 hours which doeant last that long 4 me but if i ask for stronger dose they look at me like I am nuts. Or they are afraid I will become addicted to it. Its lik...

I'm a sickle cell disease patient and in the hospital, having pains but the pills aren't working for my pain for the last 3 days. What are my rights to receive pain meds intravenously? ## Dear Gwen, Sorry to hear about your predicament with a lack of pain relief... It seems to me that doctors will only prescribe what they see fit based on their personal/moral standards (which can be very unpredictable unless you have a good close relationship with your provider). Ethically and lawfully, they "should be" prescribing whatever is necessary for the well-being of their patients...which they took an oath for. However, it goes without saying that many doctors these days have been abusing the system and are scared to write for anything too strong (or out of the ordinary) for fea...

Hi. I am 38 years old,I had 4 surgical procedures done 9 days ago.Tonsillectomy,Adeniodectomy, septal reconstruction and sinus surgery. I am in incredible pain I haven't eaten for 10 days:( I can barely swallow water and my Dr has prescribed Dilaudid,2 mg. I have never taken this before. I took my first dose of 2 mg 1 and 1/2 hours ago. It hasn't affected me. I am STILL un extteme pain. My prescription says take 1 to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours. So do I take another? I need this pain to stop. Please. ## Hello, Ruby! How are you? Yes, if it is was prescribed that way, then the intent is for you take another, if one doesn't alleviate your pain. However, be careful not to exceed your doctor's dosing instructions. If two doesn't help, then you should consult them for ass...

Hi everybody I suffer from crohns disease and my levels of pain are off the charts sometimes, it gets real unbearable, I am taking 4mg dilaudid pills 3x a day because I can only afford to see a general doctor, at the moment I have no insurance and paying for prednisone and 6-mp is beyond expensive. My doc won't give me dillys more than 3x a day because he is scared I will get addicted but I take these pills and the pain gets even worse, what am I to do, he told me I'm at a deadend in pain management with him because that's the most he can prescribe, but when I tell him it makes the pain worse he looks at me like I'm crazy but its true it makes it worse.. Has anyone else had a problem with this? What else is there that maybe I can see if he can switch it to? I just want t...

I have been on 8mg Dilaudid and 80mg hydrocodone for about 4 yrs. My doctor now changed me to Hysingla (hope that's right spelling). Anyways, they are 80mg, but had to change back because they didn't work as well. Now he's telling me that between the 2, I'm taking like 12 times the amount of the highest does of morphine given out and is now sending me to a pain doctor. Is that true? ## No, you are not taking 12 times the highest dose of Morphine, but you are exceeding the highest dose that the DEA recommends. They have issued directives that doses be limited to no more than the equivalent of 120mgs of Morphine, per day, some states have lowered it further to no more than the equivalent of 100mgs of Morphine, per day. You are currently taking roughly twice that. The only ...

Morphine intravenously did nothing. No pain relief, no rush, no nothing. Highest permissible dose for my weight. Nothing. Dilaudid took 7 seconds to get from my forearm to my brain. Woooooossssshhhhh! ! Intraven for 4 days, same results every time. Instant heaven. If I gave in, instant addiction. Don't want any of that again. Compared to dil, normal life is total pain. Can't live like that! ## Hello, Robbie! How are you? That does happen, sometimes, not every medication works for everyone that tries it. That's why they are usually multiple choices available in any given therapeutic category. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything...

My wife has really bad nausea. I would like to know if it is from the Dilaudid or Fentanyl or both. She is on 125 mcg/h Fentanyl per 72 hours and 4-8mg Dilaudid per day. LR ## I have a three year battle with severe abdominal pain which all started due to internal bleeding from a ruptured cyst. I have been on all sorts of pain medications. Currently I am on Fentanyl 100mg patchs and Dilaudid 4 mg. They used to work great but now it seems like only the IV dilaudid will give me any relief. I constantly have to go to the ER for pain management and I hate going due to the fact that I live in a small town which and the some doctors think that all I want is pain medication.there is such a big stigma about being on pain meds.has there been anything eles that anyone could recomend I am really de...

My 50-year old brother started taking dilaudid 14 months ago. At this point he takes about 48 mg daily. He originally started on it due to "mild" tennis elbow. I put the "mild" in quotation marks because I accompanied him to the radiologist and that is what they read out from the MRI. He has since claimed that both elbows are affected (very rare) and now he has pain in both hips. He has only had arthroscopic surgery - no major surgery requiring serious pain medication. Yet he continues to take dilaudid and even claims he still has serious, chronic pain. He has not worked in 14 months, he spends most of his time in bed and has stopped doing all he enjoys. When challenged, my brother claims I don't understand what it's like to have chronic pain. Yet I can't hel...

Right now I am on 8mg every 4 hours. Is it okay to increase that to 12 mg every 4 hours. ## Are you having a problem with the 8mg, is it no longer working? How long have you been taking it? Learn more Dilaudid details here. This is a very potent narcotic, so any titration up must be done very carefully. Have you talked to your doctor? ## I have only been on the total 4 mg for just a few months. My GP is away right now and I will certainlly discuss a increase in mg. with her when she returns. I am in pain because of a shoulder pain. I had a replacement done 3 yrs ago and always have had a bit of discomfort. Within the last year the pain has increase immensely - that is why the morphine. I am now waiting for an U/S to see if I have ripped the tendon. Sometiime the lower dose helps, but al...

I was on 30 mg Roxie 3x day, plus 15 mg Roxie 1x day, but doctor now changed and gave me 2 8 mg of dilaudid a day to be taken just 1/2 pill every 6 hours. Not working for me and it's almost 3 months and it's worse not better as he said I needed that time to let it all in my system. I'm really upset as pain level is back to what it was twenty years ago when I first began pain melds after bad auto accident. ## Hello, Shar! How are you? Yes, if you're maximum of the Dilaudid is 16mgs a day, then you are on a much lower dosage, rather than an equivalent one. To be equal to the 105mgs of Oxycodone that you were taking each day, you'd actually need 39mgs of the Dilaudid. Thus, it's not you, this is really nowhere near as potent. The FDA classifies this medication as a ...

I had a knee surgery yesterday. I have been using subutex to help me taper narcotics. I stopped the subutex 2 weeks before surgery. My doctor prescribed both percocet and oxycontin. I am getting no pain relief. The iv Dilaudid worked in the hospital. Has anyone taken Dilaudid by pill at home? ## I have suffered with chronic neck and back pain for years due to disk and nerve problems. My Dr. switched me from oxycontin to diulaudid (4-8 mg) and it worked for the first 9 mos. or so, then I got no relief. Many people get sick on it or very itchy. I am now on a higher dosage of Percoset. ## Are you familiar with subutex? ## No, I'm not. ## It is a new drug that has some pain killing ability. It is a controlled substance. When you take it other narcotics don't work. So it is good for ...

Is there a dilaudid shot that i can get from my drs office? We have tried all painkillers for the chronic pancreatitis i have. I go to the er about every week. Now i have to go to the er. ## Carol, I have found cases in which people were prescribed an oral version of hydromorphone (dilaudid), so at least there is the possibility of you being able to get a prescription for it. I would like to add that hydromorphone contains an opioid an...
