How Long Does Amoxicillin Last

I got a real real bad toothache and got a unopened bottle of amoxicillin liquid kind I have for 4 months and I'm pg well it hurt to take ## This medication does not become dangerous, once expired, but it does lose efficacy with time, so if it is expired, it may not work as well as it did, when new, which creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. It would be best to see your dentist for a fresh antibiotic, if one is required and to have the problem that caused the toothache corrected. Is there anything else I can help with?

Can I use an open liquid amoxicillin for a 2 year old that I got on 11/03/2016? He's been messing with one of his ears. ## Hi Sara, I see you posted this back on December 28th 2016 so you may have already come to a consensus on what to do... But I would say that if it has been left open for nearly two months or longer then that's probably not something I would recommend taking. Liquid solutions in particular I believe are more susceptible to going bad than tablets. Not to mention that any impurities might have made their way into the open bottle during that time period. I also think the effort to get a fresh antibiotic will ultimately be worth while, to ensure the safety and efficacy of the treatment. My best wishes to you and your son!

My son who is now one year old had an ear infection in April of this year and he is messing with his ears again. Is it safe for me to give him the amoxicillin I have? It's a full bottle and I never opened it because I had two of them and only needed to use the one bottle. ## Hello, Mary! How are you? What is the expiration date on the bottle? Even though it was refrigerated, liquids tend to degrade faster than solid forms of medications. Thus, if it is past the listed expiration, you should dispose of it and take him to his doctor for a new prescription, if one is needed. The FDA lists the typical side effects of antibiotics as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Hi My daughter has 2 bottle of amoxicillin in the refrigerator. Never used but already mixed. The pink one. The expiration date in the bottle says January 2018. Will it still be good to use? The actual date mixed was July 18 2016 ## In my opinion it should be perfectly fine to take. I say this because I would personally feel comfortable taking it based on the info you provided. Depending on storage conditions many prescriptions can reportedly last up to 40 years after the listed expiration date (with few exceptions such as tetracycline). Harvard University and the LA Times both have articles online recognizing this... But since it's not even January 2018 yet I wouldn't even begin to question its efficacy (especially because it has been refrigerated)... Does anyone else have thou...

My son still has two bottles of amoxicillin liquid that has not been opened or used since the pharmacist made it. How long will it last if kept in the fridge ## Hi, Amanda! How are you? Yes, antibiotic suspensions start to lose their efficacy once expired and taking an antibiotic that is not fully effective can be dangerous, since it creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Such liquids are only good for 7 to 21 days, depending on the type. Learn more Amoxicillin details here. Why didn't your son finish the medication? Unless his doctor instructs otherwise, an antibiotic should always be finished to make sure that the infection is fully eradicated and to help prevent the development of the antibiotic resistant bacteria that I mentioned. ## I used it as directed ...

My almost 10 month old was on amoxicillin for 6 days and began to develop an allergic reaction - bad diarrhea and a red rash on her cheeks; I stopped giving it to her-her last dose was 2 days ago and she still has the diarrhea and rash-how long before it goes away? My doctor prescribed her a different antibiotic but we have not started it yet, I'm almost afraid to. ## talk to your doctor about it and really talk about, make him explain the new drug to you before you use it. ## Yes, definitely speak to your doctor, he should make sure from now on to prescribe a totally different class of antibiotic to prevent that from happening to your daughter again. If you aren't sure, ask the pharmacist when you go in to get the scrip filled. Tell then she is allergic to it, then if your doc ...

My blood panel was all good except my platelets were low - 99. I'm on a 3rd round of augmentin clavanate for cat bite and then sinusitis. Would the medicine cause this? Last time it was 196. ## Hello, Peaches! How are you? It may just be due to the infection, IE: your sinusitis. Your doctor should recheck, once it has cleared up to see if the situation corrects itself. The FDA lists the typical side effects of antibiotics as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

THERE IS NOT CURE AND DOES GO AWAY I HOPE THIS HELPS ## Hello, Charles! How are you? How long has the rash lasted? side efect, rash on skin ## MY DAUGHTER WAS GIVEN THIS DRUG FOR AN EAR INFECTION, TO TAKE FOR 10 DAYS. AFTER 5 DAYS HER VAGINIA LOOKS LIKE A PIECE OF RAW MEAT AND HER BODY IS COVERED IN A RASH. HER DR. SAYS THE RASH IS NOT FROM THE DRUG BUT IT MAYBE SCARLET FEVER. HOWEVER SHE IS NOW ON A NEW DRUG STILL FIGHTING EAR INFECTION, STREP THROAT, A RAW VAGINIA, AND SUPPOSELY SCARLET FEVER. GGGRRRR ## All antibiotics are dangerous, some more than others. I have had to go on Amoxicillin Clavulanate again for a bladder infection even though I had a very painful reaction both times (severe joint and muscle pain to point of limping and hanging on the furniture to get to the bathroom, pain in ear and Eustachian tube, nausea, fever). I have 500mg Amoxicillin capsules for an ear infection and they are pink and blue. Last time I had an ear infection the capsules were red and yellow. I'm wondering if these were a different dosage, its been a few years but I believe they were slightly smaller. I'm hoping the ones I have now are a higher dose because it took a 4 week course to clear it up last time, and now I have a 2 month old daughter and have to stick cotton balls in my ears when she cries or I black out for a second from the pain. Last time my ear drum ruptured, I'm really hoping I've caught this early enough to prevent that happening because that kind of pain was atleast 100x worse than labor. ## Based on the colors which you are describing for the capsules it sounds like you have the Amoxil brand of...

In december I developed bad tooth pain and a sore on the gum in a left molar. I have a heart murmer and my blood press.rose to a high level but was erratic and other times a normal rate. I called a dentist and he said to go to the ER. I did and they prescribed amoxicillin at 500mgs every 8 hrs. The last dose was on Jan 3, 2013 and by then the tooth problem was gone. I went to a dentist and he found no infections but said a molar on the opposite side which had lost some filling should be repaired soon. I made an appt. with him, but in the meantime it developed a blister near the root and soreness at the gumline. Also I started having erratic BP swings again sometimes 160/105 and resting pulse to 88. When I called he said to cancel his appt and go to the ER again, he didn't think the ...

I had symptoms of the flu and strep throat, but tested negative for both. I was prescribed 2 875MG tablets a day. These pictures are from before the first pill I took, and before the last. Before: img922/420/Pv7eD1.jpg After: img923/2637/ZJNbiO.jpg ## The general rule that the NIH lists for antibiotic is that, if is working, you shouldn't see any worsening after taking it for a full 24 hours, and you should start to see improvement after taking it for a full 3 days. The typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. However, even if you've had some improvement, if things start seeming to get worse, again, you should consult a medical professional, because you may need a longer course of treatmen...

I was wondering if a large amount of amoxil & clavunate k 500/125mg 30 ( that's exactly what my capsule says on it)will make you feel oozy, drowsy or sleep. Because I was told to take 2tabs 3 times a day and to take with food. Seems sketchy to me because I've been prescribed to this medication. Before and last time is said to take 1 tab twice a day. Or is it depending how bad the illness is? My job is a bit far from home and I would like to be driving like this. ## Hello, Luan! How are you? Yes, the dose can be dependent on the severity of the infection being treated. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was on amoxicillin for 12 days and then I took my last dose in the morning before I went to take a routine blood work and the Dr got the results on Wednesday and he said my enzymes were high in my liver which totally alarmed me. He sent me in for an ultrasound and everything looked normal! Can this antibiotic cause high liver enzymes? And how long does this antibiotic remain in your system? I stopped my last dose on Tuesday of this week. ## Your liver enzymes may be raised any time you are sick, it is your liver that does the most work detoxifying the body, and removing bacteria, or viruses, according to NIH reports. If things were normal via the ultrasound and no other abnormalities have been found, there is not likely a problem. But I am not a doctor, so I can only tell you what cur...

It depends on how long and which kinds go bad. ## Hello, Jojie! How are you? Expired Amoxicillin isn't one that gets dangerous, once expired, but it does start to lose effectiveness, so it may not work as well as it did, when it was new and this could create the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. ...
