How Long Does A Fentanyl Patch Work

i am on oxycodone 15mg 4 times a day and 30mgs of methadone. I now added a 75mg patch of Fentanyl. Will the patch work? Will i feel the patch? It's been on for 3 hours and i don't feel any different. ## I'm on 30 to 40 mgs of methadone daily and 15 mgs of oxycodone daily. I ran out of my meds and cant fill my them until tomorrow. I was given 2 x 75mgs fentanyl patches to use for 24hrs. I can fill my meds tomorrow morning. I used one of the patches and i just put the other one on. My dad has lung cancer and a rupture aorodia. And is blind and hospices. Has him on 25mcg/hr and they won't Change it 48 hr when it stops working has to be every 72 he put one on Monday. I have been on it for several months but I can't say it is very helpful. Also I seem to have a lot of trouble with achy legs, but I donteantto increase the dose and get addicted. hi i have been on these patches for 4 months now but i still have pain ## Have you consulted your doctor? Do you have any medications for breakthrough pain? Usually, for proper pain management, something long acting like the Fentanyl is used and then some that works immediately, or a regular release medication, is also given for those times the pain is too much for the long acting medication to completely control. ## I am on 25mcgs of fentynal patches every 72 hours, plus 10/325 pecocet 1 every 4-6 hours for BT pain.The Percocet doesn't do much, and is very similar to my previous prescription of Norco and the patch isn't strong enough and runs out after 48 hours. I have been using Fentanyl Patch for over a year now. I am up to 75 mcgs a day. I have been using Tegaderm over the patches to keep them off. They work very well. I have been using those almost as long as I have been on the patch. About 1 1/2-2 months ago, I started experiencing burns on my skin where the patch is. My mom calls them "chemical burns." It's hard to have the patches on as they itch so much and when I take them off, my skin is very red and then gets very scaly and starts to peel off (while still being very itchy.) I've not had a problem at all before this, and I have not brought it up to my doctor yet. Is it "wetness" that is doing this? Is it getting too hot underneath the patch because of the Tegaderm? what is the difference between liquid and jelly types ## I'am on 75 mcg of fentanyl patch jelly form. I found when i used the other fentanyl patches with the glue all over them i would break out from the glue. So what is the difference between the patches and do they work as well. I was told to use a steroid nasal spray under the patch before applying it, but everyone i've asked has never heard of using the spray before applying patch. These patches are lousy imo. Does anyone know which pharmacy regularly stocks other brands, not Apotex? I am on the 25 mcg patch. I live in Maine around only chain pharmacies. No private pharmacies around. I prefer Sandoz or Mylan as I have had both. Never the other brands but willing to try any other generic. Thanks for reading. ## Anyone can answer. I am being changed from 50mch every 48 hrs and 40 mg of hydrocodone a day to oxycodone and the doc only gave me 15 mg three times a day ir release and i am hurting bad. I have a feeling this is not even close to what i am use to. What should i do or say to my doc. I am working with the va military docs which are very strict. ## So you were on a Fentanyl patch that you changed every 48 hours and the Hydrocodone and they've now cut you down to 15mgs of Oxycodone 3 times a day? There's really no way this is going to work, you're going from a time release patch of the most potent narcotic available, down to just 45mgs a day of Oxycodone and that's not even taking the additional Hydrocodone into account. My husband is on a 12 mcg ratio-fentanyl patch every 3 days for pain management..I've noticed there is writing on the patch when I put it on him, & when I take it off, the writing is gone..I assume that's the way it's supposed to work.. The patches in the last box still had ALL the writing on them when I removed them, & he hasn't been feeling well for over a week or so..I opened a new box & it's doing the same thing- - writing still there..I plan to contact the company, but it's a holliday here, drugstore, doctor, all unavailable..Any ideas ?? hi ive been on a norspan patch (15mg) for some months. methadone tablets before that for some yrs post lower back fusion, S1-L5 in 2003. the norspan patch has not covered the pain control so my specialist ordered an MRI and now I have a protruding disc at L4. this was to be expected I was told due to the extra workload on my lower back. I have been given the fentanyl patch and told that it will be increasing next visit but I was not told to just stop the norspan or ween off slowly? Due to constant itching on the norspan Im coming off at 5mg/week anyway but not sure if now I should just take patch off and be done with it? my patch keeps coming off prematurely. can you recommend a solution? ## You can buy Tegaderm at Walgreen's, it's an occlusive dressing and apply it over the patch and as long as you don't have adhesive allergies it should hold through showers, etc. until the next patch is needed. Sometimes happens, may ask doctor about changing brands, some do better than others, good luck. ## I had the same problem.Went to Walgreen's and purchased Nexcare (I believe that's the brand). It is a clear sticky cover which works keeping the patch on! Went swimming, showering & used the jacuzzi. At times it was difficult getting them off. Good luck. They'd have access to the most current information on any availability problems, since they are alerted immediately by the FDA and the information we have is generally delayed, since this site does not manufacture, nor dispense any medications. ## I HAVE TAKEN FENTANYL TRANS PATCHES FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW, DUE TO ENDOMETRIOSIS. BEWARE WHEN YOU GO INTO HOSPITAL, YOUR BODY COULD BUILD UP A RESISTANCE TO MORPHINE.
