How Long Does 1 Pill Of 5mg Oxycodone Last

I would like to chime in here. If all possible do not take oxycontin er. I have been on them for 7 years now. I was taking Norco for a muscle disease I got for chemicals when I was in the army. I had a heart attack later on and my doctor at the time said I had to take these OXY. That it was safer if I knew what I know know I would have punched him in the mouth. I was on 140 mg er. I am now chemically dependant on them. It's miserable up and down wake up in the morning in full blown withdrawals. I have been self tapering myself off of them. This is a very very miserable. I am now down to 10 mg 3 times a day. Getting ready to go to ir's. I dropped 10mg ever couple of weeks to get here. I will never take another opiate when I can get off. Hey! So a little background on myself, I have been dealing with back pain for over 5 years, and finally switched to a new clinic who has confirmed that I have MS and Ankylosing Spondylitis Reactive Arthritis. I also have 2 discs out of place (L3 and L4). My doctor recently started me on Oxycodone HCl 5mg every 4-6 hours, but not to exceed 4 per day. Well here is my issue: they last a whopping hour and a half tops. So then I have to sit around in pain while being a stay-at-home mother to a 2 y/o, for at least another 2 hours. I am taking 5mg (blue tablet) twice a day for back discomfort. I’ve been on it for quite s while I would say couple of yrs. I want to know if it can cause me to have a seizure every so often. They can’t find out any cause for them. I have no history of them or no one else in my family has seizures. I never ever had them before. I also get hot flushes through my whole body that last about 5 minutes or so every once in awhile. I want to go off them. How do I go about it. How long does feeling last he took one and 5 325 oxcodone his arms here but the not the feel he took at 6pm ## Hi Connie, It's a little difficult to understand the entirety of your post due to grammatical errors, but immediate release oxycodone has an estimated half-life of 4 hours - At which point only 2.5mg out of the 5mg would still be active. I believe this is why typical adult dosing charts suggest taking 1 tablet every 4-6 hours as needed for around the clock pain relief. 5mgs is also the smallest available dosage of oxycodone (at least to my knowledge) - So you could always talk with your doctor about going up to 7.5mg or 10mg if the 5mg isn't sufficient. I was taking 5mg of Watson brand Oxycodone since 2006 they always took my pain away . In January 01/2014 when I got my prescription refilled they gave me a332/ 5mg / 325 oxycodone & they don't give you pain relief like Watson's 5mg do so my doctor upped me to a332 7.5mg/325 last year & they did no better then the a332 5mg/325 oxycodone did I only take 3 a day & it takes 3 to 4 hour's for them to work & they only last about 1 to 2 hours if they work I have had day's that 1 out of 3 worked & day's where none of them worked . I read on line where a lot of other people are having the same problem with Activis oxycodone pain med's not working for them like Watson's did . I take 5mg of oxycodone about once a day for a TKR, I don't normally mix drugs and alcohol but I was bored so I waited 16hrs before I had 3 mixed drinks, each mixed drink I had was in a tall glass with less then a 1/4 of hard liquor and a lot of ice and to the top with pop and it took me 5hrs to drink 3 drinks and now its been 5hrs sense my last drink so how long do I have to wait to take a 5mg of oxycodone and no I didn't get a buzz from the drinks and I'm still myself (normal). ## Brenda, It sounds like you already know the answers, you're just looking for permission to justify imbibing and ingesting a powerful narcotic opiate/opioid. There is a time released tablet in 60mgs, called Oxycontin, which would have the marking OC or OP on one side and a 60 on the opposite side. The tablets should be red. I take 2 5mg oxycodone tablets 3 times a day for the last two years., sometimes a couple extra over that. I had a disk problem with major pain. My back has been doing much better for about 8 months now, I can actually walk again without my left leg giving out on me. Now my problem is I can't get off these damn things. I had tapered a couple months ago down to nothing and didn't have the awful withdrawal symptoms I have heard about, some discomfort but not terrible. I take 5MG oxycodone 2x a day. Last dose was yesterday 4am and 3pm. Is it safe for me to drink next day, late afternoon? ## Hi survivor, According to research from umm.edu, drinking alcohol with oxycodone in your system can cause potentially dangerous side effects such as difficulty breathing, confusion, dizziness, slurred speech, and impaired cognitive function. For those reasons they recommended that patients avoid alcohol during the course of treatment. The interaction between these two drugs also categorizes it as having a "high interaction potential". This may mean that even just a few sips of something could do you in. Better to play it safe in my opinion. Hope this helps!

I was prescribed 120 pills on April 17th. The dosing guidelines say to take 1 pill every 6 hours. When should I run out of medicine? ## Generally when you get pain meds from Pain Management or any other doc really and it will be taken on a regular basis, they give you what they expect to last 30 days and if you take 1 pill every six hours that should last 30 days. Patients get confused when they receive pain meds that state take one or two every 4-6 hours as needed for pain and say get 60. The Doctor generally still expects that bottle to last 30 days no matter what the instructions say. The Doctor or nurse really should make that clear. I have taked oxycodone and hydrocodone over the last 30 years due to chronic kidney stones (I have passed, or had removed, well over 50 stones in my lifetime) and a severely scarred ureter on my left side. Often I go several days without having to take a half of a Hydrocodone 5/325. That is my "go to" dose when my side starts to ache, and it usually takes the edge off. Was on Norco 10-325 on and off for a few years due to back problems. Had l4/l5 Laminectomy and was sent home with 5mg oxicodone. It's been 16 days since surgery and I tapered down from 2.5 yesterday. I've tapered down from 20 mg oxycodone ( for 3 months for back pain) to 5mg for the last eight days. I want to get this process over with, of course. I could drop to 2.5 for week or just stop oxycodone now and prepare for the symptoms. My dr has given me adavan and clonidine. Advice please. ## So, you sent from 4 x 5mg per day to 1 x 5mg per day? I have been given one prescription for 5mg of oxycodone after a spinal fusion surgery on L4&5, one prescription of 5 mg oxycodone for total hip surgery, and another prescription for the same for shingles within the last four years at different times.
