How Does Time Released Morphine Work

Was taking perc5-325 for 4 yrs every 12 hrs. Got to the point it wasn't working for me animore .now I'm on ms 15mg twice a day .any suggestions on this pill .kinda a nervous. Thank you. ## Hello, Mariah! How are you? MS Contin contains the active ingredient Morphine. The FDA classifies it as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. It would basically be equivalent to taking a 10/325mg Percocet every 12 hours, however, the MS Contin is time released, so you may get better pain control with it. Are there any other questions or concerns?

How long will the effects of M60 last? I have a migraine headache and have to be up for work at 530 am...it is 7p.m.now... ## It will last about 12 hours and it's really not advisable to take Morphine for a migraine, anyway. It actually tends to cause headaches, as a side effects, along with nausea, dizziness and constipation. Additionally, since this is a time released formulation, it will not relieve the migraine immediately. Is there anything else I can help with? ## My wife was in a motorcycle accident 2 nights ago. They gave her shots of morphine which made her experience vomiting & dizziness. The vomiting has stopped, but she is still feeling a bit dizzy. The test results came back and she does not have a head injury, so I'm wondering if the dizziness could still be a ...

HOW LONG DOES ONE 60MG EXTENDED RELEASE TABLET TAKE BEFORE IT'S RELEASED INTO YOUR SYSTEM? ## I take 15's and I find I get more pain relief if I take them early and go back to bed, then get up at 9 pretty much pain free. I take 2. 15's at 6 am and go back to sleep, I have pain relief all day, the pain starts coming back near 8 pm. ## As to how long it takes to start being released into your body to start working, it's roughly 15 to 20 minutes, or so. Learn more Morphine details here. Are there any other questions or comments? ## im taking 2-30 er in the morning 2-15 at noon, and during bed I taking 2-30 er at bed time and the last 15mg in the middle of the night but not working at all just takes the withdrawn awy! ## ok, my doctor said he has do refer to pain management d...

My mother has spinal stenosis which cases her great pain. She uses B transpatches 50. which provides no relief. What could be used as an alternative? She is 84. ## I have cervical spinal stenosis. I have used fentanyl patches and lollipops in the past to control my pain. It is very strong but can be given in very small doses and due to her age I doubt a pain specialist would give her any grief over it. Dilaudid also works well for me but I am a poor metaboliser so not many opiatess work for me. You might want to ask about either one of these pain meds. ## Yes, the Fentanyl patches are also what I would suggest asking her doctor about, it is a very strong narcotic, over 80 times stronger than the Morphine, so the patches come in either 0.25mcgs or 0.50mcgs. They are time released and eac...

My pain Dr. Writes 5 8mg. Dilaudid plus 1 60mg. Avinza 1every 24 hrs. time released morphine, I have been on the dilaudid 4-5 yes. Seems they don't work as well as they used to. What I do take would keep most people from sedated but I still have some pain and can't seem to do much with or without my meds. any suggestions? ## Sorry to hear about your challenges with pain. If I could suggest anything that might be of help, it would be to include natural treatment options that can safely be used alongside your medication(s) as a sort of adjunctive therapy. Depending on what type of pain your dealing with, I do know that some medical marijuana clinics offer a CBD/THC 50/50 concentrate that your spray a few times in your mouth and it helps relieve a very noticeable amount of pain in ...

Pls I'd like to know if crushing the pill would make it work faster.. ## No, it is not safe to crush them! The ER means that it is a time released tablet, so crushing or breaking it could cause you to get too much of the medication, at once, which creates the risk of overdose. They must be swallowed whole. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Yes... lick coating off then crush it...but fair warning that it could hit ya super hard and possibly od so be careful ## You will survive chewing a morphine er 15. Very low dosage. If your body is used to opiates you will be fine. But it is n...

How long does it take to start working? ## From my own experiences with morphine it takes any where from 30 to 60 minutes for the drug to take effect.Make sure that you take the pill whole.Don't crush the pill because this will alter the time release of the drug.Drink plenty of water with the pill as so it will kick in faster. ## The regular or time released tablets take between 20 to 30 minutes to start working, however, there is also an instant release on the market that starts working very fast. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth. I was wondering I had a pill I know it was morhine. it was an oblong blue shape and color. It has been awhile I'm a chronic pain patient and I cannot take the newoxy op's I took 80mg 3x a day for along time. If any body knows the difference between just the regular morphine and the er opana ect. let me know the ms-contin did not work at all. Also the hydromorphone what is the differences in those meds? I know that is alot of info I just need to knoww. So if you know any of it let me know. THANKS ## If the Morphine ER didn't work for you, then it makes sense that the MS Contin also didn't, because they are both time released Morphine tablets. Opana contains a different narcotic, it is called Hydromorphone, it is very powerful and has helped many people with chronic pain i...

I have been on kadian for 2 yrs now. 150mg twice a day, plus percocet10/325 for breakthrough. works pretty well. Now I have to switch to morphine sulfate er TABLETS. I will be taking 160 mgs twice per day. Have not taken yet so I don't know if they will work as good as the kadian. What I was also wondering if the morphine sulfate er CAPSULES work better than the morphine sulfate er TABLETS. anyone try both to see if there was any difference thank you ## What you're switching to is just a generic for Kadian, it still contains a time released formulation of Morphine. As to which one works better, when I was taking it, I never noticed a different between the tablets or the capsules, but what is true for me may not be true for you. You really need to try it for yourself and see what...

I have taken ns contin 60mg 4x a day for abot 10 years and roxicodone 15mg 4 x day for break through pain but it has got to where its not working now so what othwr medication do i have as another option ## Hello, Linda! How are you? Well, there are higher doses of both of these medications available. Additionally, there is a time released formulation of Oxycodone available, it's called Oxycontin and is stronger than the Morphine in the MS contin. Learn more Oxycontin details here. There is also a patch that contains Fentanyl, it is stronger than both the Morphine and the Oxycodone. Learn more Fentanyl details here. These are narcotic analgesics, so they have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipatio...

what does IMM REL stand for after Morphine Sulfate ## IMM REL stands for Immediate Release ## That is correct, it means the medication starts to be released in your body immediately, as soon as you swallow it. There are 3 formulations of Morphine available, the immediately release, the regular release that usually takes 15 to 20 minutes to start working and a time released that is slowly released over a 12 hour period. Are there any other comments or questions? ## And the bio availability in the immediate release is horrible. Meaning you may only get maybe 5% of the pill. That's way some people plug them, it's like 90% bio availability meaning you will get most of the medication. Just a F.Y.I. ## What exactly do you mean by "plug them" I've been on the 15's Imedi...

for the last 7 years I have been on Norco 10's got to the point I was taking 12 to 15 a day, it got to the point that they stopped working for me so my dr. put me on morphine er 15mg 3x a day with 30mg instant release 4x a day im new to morphine but have a very high tolerance to opiots, im just wondering if I made a good switch. I remember when the Norco made me feel great but I have yet to take two 30mg i.r. at once to see if that was a pleasant feeling, anyone have some helpful advice in this area? thanks ## Hello, Charles! How are you? The reason you aren't getting that same effect from the Morphine is because it's time released. The Norco was released all at once within 15 to 20 minutes of taking it, but the Morphine is slowly released into your body over a period of abo...

I've been prescribed an extended-release version of morphine sulfate and I've released I'm not sure how the extended release works. I take one 15 mg pill per day. I guess I thought the extended release meant that I would be getting the benefit of 15 mg of pain relief all day long, at an given moment. But does the ER version simply take that 15 mg and divide it up over the space of 24 hours? 15 divided by 24...that would mean at any given hour, I'd only have 0.62 (less than a milligram) in my system, which is substantially less than 15 mg of relief in any given hour. Can anyone clarify this for me? ## Hello, Groa! How are you? Yes, the tablet contains 15mgs total of Morphine that is slowly released over time. However, generally, the constant release of even small amounts ...

I was in an auto accident 8/21/96 and ever since then I have been dealing with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD). For the last 11 yrs I have been on Avinza 270 mg (2 120mg, 1 30mg once a day) by King Pharmaceutical and now my ins company is insisting that a generic is made and sold in the US by Acatavis Elizabeth. I cannot see anything current that it has been released. There is a legal suit between King and Acatavis because it states a generic cannot be released until 11/2017. Generics do not work for me and right now I'm fighting it, but would like to know if it is true about Avinza being made and sold in the US by Actavis. Please let me know if you're able to, I would surely appreciate it. Thank you! ## Hello, Lorraine! How are you? The databases are showing that a generic f...

I was put on morphine sulfate 15mg ER 1 every 12 hours. I had been taking hydrocodone 10/325 4xs a day. Is this a better slightly stronger amount to control pain after taking hydrocodone for 14 years? ## Hello, DezerayBlu! How are you? According to the conversion ratios provided by Global, they convert on a 1:1 ratio. So, to be equal to a daily dose of 40mgs Hydrocodone, you'd need 40mgs of Morphine. It is also time released, so the medication is gradually released over the 12 hour period. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Have you started taking it, yet? If so, how is it working for you? ## I was recently put on morphine sulfate ER 15 mg, every 1...

Which medication is stronger: 15 mg Morphine ER or 10/325 Oxycodone or Hydrocodone 10/325 ## They are very similar. My doctor has put me on and we've tried to figure out what works. best. I get 10mg Norco & 20mg Oxycodone, and I alternate, it REALLY helps!!! (I have a LOT of medical issues.) ## @birdie, I think as post #1 suggested, you pretty much just have to work with your doctor to find out what best suits your level of pain. Some people debate that oxycodone is a step up from hydrocodone. I think the answer may vary with each individual based on personal preference. And as far as comparing morphine ER to immediate release oxycodone, there's probably no easy way to determine an equivalent dose since one is being slowly released...However if it's of any help, the foll...

i have been taking 50mg of hyrdocodone per day for the last 6 months and it is not working for the pain anymore. I have ankolying spondylitus. My Dr has put me on 15mg morphine extended release 2x per day. I took 15mg about 3 hours ago and so far not relief. My questions is will this work for me as I was taking 50mg of hyrocodone per day. ## How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? The ER Morphine is released slowly, over a period of 12 hours, it is not released all at once, like the Hydrocodone was, so you will not feel the same effect. There is also a change that this dosage isn't high enough for you. Have you informed your doctor of the issue? Though, it is usually best to give it a week, or so, to see if things improve. The FDA warns that these medications carry the ri...

I TAKE 30MG OXYCODONE EVERY 8 HOURS AND IT NEVER LASTS. I START FEELING PAIN ABOUT 6 HOURS IN. I RAN OUT AN TOOK A 40MG MORPHINE AND IT LASTED ABOUT 10 HOURS. ## Hello, Sue! How are you? Oxycodone is actually the strongest of the ones you've mentioned. However, the formulation may come into play. Were they all regular release or were some of them time released? ## I have been taking hydrocodone 10/ acetaminophen 325 every 6 hours for 4 years and now I am being switch to morphine SO4 30MG SA TAB three times a day It doesn’t seem to be working as good for me as the hydrocodone has in the past. I am taking morphine sulfate er 30mg tablets twice a day and also taking morphine sulfate imm rel 15mg once, sometimes twice a day. Finances won't allow me to get the morphine er at this time. Question: what is dosage of morphine imm per day without morphine er for 5 or 6 day until I can get the morphine er? ## They are both Morphine, so the dosage would be the same, however, the problem you are going to run into is that it is not going to last as long and since it is being released into your body much faster, this will potentiate the side effects, such as the nausea, dizziness and constipation that it can cause. Have you consulted with your doctor? You should really do so, before you try anything of this nature. It would probably work better for managing your pain to take a lower d...
