How Does Suboxone Work

I was in suboxone for almost 2 yrs when i hurt myself bad enough for hip surgery. I told my dr and surgeon that i was taking subs. But neither one told me to stop or anything. So when i had surgery an was in recovery screaming in oain the nurse told me they had given me enoughn to knock an elphant out but it did not relieve pain.it was supose.to be day surgery but I could not get off table due to pain !! I ended up staying the night in hospital i talk with nurse and she was able to give me something that gave a little relieve. I wanted to tell everyone that considers taken suboxone that it dies very little for pain but does good to help you live without pain meds and live a regular live a decent life but it is just swapping one drug for another and if you do ever get hurt in wreck or so...

I have been on suboxone for 8 years now. B 4 that, I was on methadone for almost 5 years. I had a lot of surgeries and have a lot of medical problems. I was on pain management (opiates) for 10 years and became an addict. I'm afraid if I get off the suboxone I'll b back on opiates. Due 2 the pain I suffer. How long can I stay on suboxone. Has anybody else been on it 4 a long time? Just got put on suboxone today took my first 8mg at 1 im supposed to take 8 more this afternoon then 8 tonight when will my withhdraws start to ease up.I have severe cramps in my legs i also have klonopin and colonodine will these help. I am trying get myself clean off H n just took a 6mg suboxone strip. Will it help if so long till it works? ## Hi Kitty! B 4 the suboxone will work, u MUST b in withdrawals. Otherwise, it won't work and can make u feel worse. As far as time, they usually take about 15 minutes 2 work. If the g don't work, u may need more. It all depends on how much and how long u were using. But, if you want 2 get clean, u r going 2 need more than a day or few 2 do it. U should go 2 a clinic or suboxone dr and do it properly. If u r not already doing that. Remember, the main thing is 2 b withdrawing b 4 u take the suboxone.

I have been taking subs for about 5monthes now...had tapered down to 1mg a day and then I messed u and took 2-4 mg a day for about a week. Now I can't get anymore and I only have about 1 and a quarter of a pill left ( About 10 mg) ...am I going to be able to use this small amount to be able to taper enough to have light enough withdrawls symptoms so that I can still go to work...or am I screwed? ## IT is difficult to say, since it does contain the narcotic Buprenorphine, you may experience withdrawals, but the severity can vary from one person to another. I'm on day four of no subs after a 24 mg a day treatment for pain and addiction. I wish i never touched the stuff. My pain management doc reccommended them to me after a year long perc and vic habit. I wish i just would of suffered throught the few days of WD from that instead of going on subs. THEY DID GIVE ME MY LIFE BACK. BUT!!!! They are very very very hard to let go of. The WD is not as intense as dope sick but it is drawn out and mostly mental. The first week is achey and pissed off. I know that because thats how far i got before then started subs again. Down to 30mg morphine from 300. Out of pills, so friend gave me a 8mg Sub. To help. Waited 24hrs til i was sick. Took 2mg and was on top. Best mood and pain relieve ever. Want to continue quick taper. Pills weren't made to break in 8 pcs. Friend won't give up a strip. Selfish pig. I went to the hospital and they gave me suboxone orange pill 8 mg and I took it and I am suppose to follow up at the clinic tomorrow. But I got home and about 6 hours later and I was in total withdraws, so I took some opiates. I didn't want to but I was so sick. Why didn't the suboxone work for me? ## Hello, Sally! simple Q, i been back n forth, takin subs, than relapsing. i been battlin this way for a long time. on and off on and off. now it kinda seems like the subs arent as affective. i relapsed the first day of taking my subs , i took the usual amount i always do. and it doesnt really work. so in a panic. i relapsed again. i want to start taking my subs again though. so is it safe that i wait the 12 hrs ui always do to take my subs again which are prescribed to me? or should i wait longer totake my subs?

Went to my sub. dr. yesterday and he lowered my dose of 12mg per day to 8mg. or one film strip. I told him I want to get off sub. completely so he,s gonna taper me down to very low dose. I asked him about WDS. and he assured me that there would be next to none. I doubt this. He told me he would prescribe Tramadol when I got off the Suboxone and then wean me off it. Has any one tried or heard of this method? ## I've not heard of tramadol being used for WDS, but I tried it for pain once. I took a suboxone 8mg and I have some serious pain. Will vicodin work on the pain or not? From what I'm reading in other related discussion threads here, the general consensus I've gathered is that most patients recommend waiting an estimated 48 to 72 hours to reap the full effectiveness of their pain meds after Suboxone. Cause I would love to know... ## Suboxone is prescribed for pain in other countries but here in the states as far as I know it,s only prescribed to treat opiate addiction. The pain your friend is feeling could be from withdrawal. Maybe your friend has other pain issues and also has a pain pill problem and the patient and doctor decided to start suboxone treatment. So I have been on Suboxone for years and years. I have had every different generic made and found they all effect me mor or less the same. However, I am having a hard time with these new West-Ward 54 375 generics. This one just doesn’t work the same. I know all generics have the same amount of drug in them but these just real weak and it really pisses me off. ## Actually, they do not all have to have the same amount of the active ingredients. I am prescribed fentanyl 25mcgs/hr. Sometimes I have trouble keeping the patch on. I had a couple fall off early this month and couldn't get my refill early. So I decided I would use Subxn to help if there was withdrawal. It worked good, but now it's time for me to stop and put back on my patch. I don't know how long I have to wait. I took 2mgs yesterday at 3pm. It's now 1pm. Is it too soon? ## You will be fine to take it, 2mg is a really low dosage- I take a-more than that. Suboxin is a opiate blocker- your patch may not seem as strong but I doubt it- If you take suboxin over a period of time 3days or more - then your patch would be a waste. My roommate washed my pants without emptying my pockets & found a whole strip unopened in the dryer so it went through both. I'm wondering if it will still work or not? Tricare does not cover Suboxone doctors or prescription. They will however cover your prescription for Subutex or generic buprenorphine. I pay $10 no matter how many pills are prescribed for generic buprenorphine or Subutex. My doctor personally bills my lab work which is $120 a month two Tricare but I am paying out-of-pocket for the doctor's visit. VA will not do anything where I am.
