CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO KEEP THE PATCH FROM COMING OFF AFTER SECOND DAY ? I SHOWER A COUPLE TIMES A DAY AND ON THE SECOND DAY THE PATCH WON'T STAY ON.THEN YOU USE MORE THAN WHAT IS PERSCRIBED AND YOU RUN OUT OF PATCHES AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY WON'T PAY FOR ANY MORE THAN PERSCRIBED, THEN COMES WITHDRAWAL? ## The information I received with my patches indicate that the patch should not get wet. I have the same problem. In reading other post, there is a clear cover that can be obtained to protect the patch from water. I have not researched for any sourses, but will soon. I asked my doctor the same question yesterday, she said "no", because once it hits the air, the strength starts to dissipate, or weaken. So she put me on the lowest dose, as I hope to get off them and all meds eventually. ## No, you can't cut it in half and the reason for it is because it is time released and cutting the patch could cause you to get too much of the medication at once, which may result in a dangerous overdose. My dad has lung cancer and a rupture aorodia. And is blind and hospices. Has him on 25mcg/hr and they won't Change it 48 hr when it stops working has to be every 72 he put one on Monday. Can I just stop taking fentanyl patch 25? ## No you risk suffering from opiate withdrawal if you have been on the medication for any length of time say for more than a few months. Opiate withdrawal is extremely painful and very unnecessary especially if you have a legitimate prescription for it. ## That is correct, while it may seem small, since the dosage is only 25mcgs, Fentanyl is actually a very potent narcotic. It is actually over 80 times stronger than Morphine. I have been on Fentanyl patches for six years increasing dosages every couple years getting to 100mcg/hr q48. For the past three months I am sick, sleeping for 14 hrs at a time, with increased pain in my feet and legs on the second day. The first day on a new patch I feel exceptionally well with diminished pain. Is there a life issue with patches? Please let me know the gel brands for fent 25 patches. I always used PAR and now I guess they are obsolete. I'm in northern virginia and I hate the foil backed ones as they are like gum when they get wet and then a ball of gook. I could handle the little tiny ones that are non gel but I they too aren't very sticky once they get wet. The gel ones, I can take off when I shower and stick them back on their plastic and re-stick. I wear them on my hip wear my underwear elastic is and worse case scenerio, I put a bandaid over it if the sticky isn't very sticky. I am having a problem where it feels like my brain is spinning inside my head. I am currently wearing the Fentanyl 25 patch. I have had some (4) bad experiences this month alone. Exerting myself - gardening, carrying groceries, lifting anything; I become short of breath, extremely rapid heart rate and my legs and upper body become very weak. Has anyone else ever experienced something like this. I honestly thought I was having a heart attack. To be fair, I had awful leg weakness before I started taking or using anything. I don't know what to do. I took an OxyContin (30) mg and had an even worse experience than mentioned above. (Shortness of breath & rapid heart beat went on longer). Can I still use it ? ## Hello Hunter, Yes like all medications they have an expiration date. I'm looking right now at some old 100mcg/hr for 72 hours that I use to use. I got them from the pharmacy about 6 months ago and their expiration date is Aug. 2016 So that would be about a 1 year and 8 months expiration since it was dispensed. As long as the backing hasn't been removed it should be OK and stick to the skin. Be sure to apply it where you have the most fat tissue for best absorption. i am on oxycodone 15mg 4 times a day and 30mgs of methadone. I now added a 75mg patch of Fentanyl. Will the patch work? Will i feel the patch? hi i have been on these patches for 4 months now but i still have pain ## Have you consulted your doctor? Do you have any medications for breakthrough pain? Usually, for proper pain management, something long acting like the Fentanyl is used and then some that works immediately, or a regular release medication, is also given for those times the pain is too much for the long acting medication to completely control. ## I am on 25mcgs of fentynal patches every 72 hours, plus 10/325 pecocet 1 every 4-6 hours for BT pain.The Percocet doesn't do much, and is very similar to my previous prescription of Norco and the patch isn't strong enough and runs out after 48 hours. what is the difference between liquid and jelly types ## I'am on 75 mcg of fentanyl patch jelly form. I found when i used the other fentanyl patches with the glue all over them i would break out from the glue. So what is the difference between the patches and do they work as well. I was told to use a steroid nasal spray under the patch before applying it, but everyone i've asked has never heard of using the spray before applying patch. I was on 180 mg of ms contin after tapering down from 300mg for 16 yrs. I wanted to try fentanyl patches so my Dr gave me 75 mcg patch. Wow I had absolutely no pain .....but after 55-60 hrs I would wake up sweats flip popping all over totally withdrawals then I talked to a friend, she's on 50 mcg. I have been using Fentanyl Patch for over a year now. I am up to 75 mcgs a day. I have been using Tegaderm over the patches to keep them off. They work very well. I have been using those almost as long as I have been on the patch. About 1 1/2-2 months ago, I started experiencing burns on my skin where the patch is. My mom calls them "chemical burns." It's hard to have the patches on as they itch so much and when I take them off, my skin is very red and then gets very scaly and starts to peel off (while still being very itchy.) I've not had a problem at all before this, and I have not brought it up to my doctor yet. Is it "wetness" that is doing this? Is it getting too hot underneath the patch because of the Tegaderm?
