I've been on some kind of thyroid medicine for nearly ten years. Maybe two occassions where my prescription has had to be altered. They want me to come in every six months for a check up, which is one vile of blood and not even a 1/2 hour consultation. I can't afford to go that often and they just cut my refills until i set up an appointment. Is this legal or am i just going to javeto deal with this kind of thing for the restof my life. Why can't i set up an appointment when i feel the effects kicking in, i know this condition so well i can tell when things will start happening. Like the weight gain, fatigue, getting cold easy. ## Not "legal". File a complaint with your state's medical bureau. That said, have you told your Dr's office you can't afford to ...

Hi there. I went to the hospital like three weeks ago. for really bad pain in both of my knees it happens every time the weather changes and it keeps me up crying all night because they are killing me. The ER prescribed movie two prescriptions one wus ibuprofen 800 milligrams. A nother prescription 18 count of 50 milligrams of tramadol. How can I get the hospital to refill them both with out having to go back to the hospital again ## They will not, an ER is not intended to replace your primary care physician. You either have to go to the ER, again, and hope they prescribe more, or see your primary care doctor for follow up treatment. The FDA classifies Tramadol as an opiate, so it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dr...

I currently live in California but will be going back home to Massachusetts for the xmas holidays I currently take Percocet and my DR wrote me my prescription to get filled while I am away as I get it filled every 30 Days Now I am being told I may not be able to get it filled because it is considered a " out of state script " Can someone please tell me if there is anything I can do before I leave? I have called my Doctor Office and He himself is not sure either ??? If I take the medication every 30 days and will be gone what does someone like myself do if I can't get my refill? ## Hello, Moe! How are you? Yes, that is correct, it is very hard to get out of state prescriptions filled. Do you happen to use a chain pharmacy, such as Walgreens or Rite Aid? If so, you might be ab...

If my script states "may fill on 11/30", is that the same as "do not fill until"? Just wondering if I could pick up before 11\30. Thank you ## Hello, Ladybug! How are you? Yes, it would be considered the same by most pharmacies, according to the DEA prescribing directions. Is it a controlled substance? Those are typically the ones that doctors write that on. Generally, it may be done with some opiates, stimulants and benzodiazepines. ## Thank you for replying! Yes, it is for my pain med. He had never wrote that before so I was a little confused. I didn't know if they would except it today or not. I am actually due to fill today but he messed up with the 30th date on it . The office was closed to get it corrected. I'll just have to wait i guess. Thanks again ## Ye...

How long should my prescription of tramadol last? Doctors instructions are take 1 to 2 every 6 hours as needed. ## It would depend on how many tablets it's written for. Generally when it is 1-2 every 6 hrs as needed, they calculate it by 2 tablets 4 times a day which is 8 tablets a day max. Divide the number of tablets it was written for by 8 and you will have how long it should last. If you're only taking 1 tablet every 6 hrs that would be 4 tablets in a 24 hr period.

Can i refill a 30 day prescription in 29 days, of xanax? ## Yes ## @timbo, I see you posted this a while back. Did you end up having any success in getting it filled early? I'm not sure if there are any specific laws regarding this matter (especially with only 1 day to spare), but I do believe your doctor is the one who is supposed to give you prior authorization towards getting a refill by a certain date. Some pharmacists also like to give patients a hard time when it comes to medications that are commonly abused. But if you go in there and they throw up resistence, it doesn't seem like there's much you can do as a customer, except wait it out or take your business to another pharmacy. Pretty one-sided in that sense. But since xanax is a controlled substance, I'd be int...

MY DOCTOR IN MAINE SAYS HE CAN NO LONGER PRESCRIBE METHADONE FOR PAIN ANYMORE BY LAW BECAUSE IT CAUSE ARISMA TO YOUR HEART. (IS THIS TRUE OR NOT) ## I have to admit that I can't find anything on this, but it is highly possible. For various reasons, many states on the east coast and into the mid-west have been making radical changes to their prescribing laws. Some of them restrict what general practitioners can and cannot prescribe, as well as how long they can prescribe something, how much they can prescribe each month and etc. Learn more Methadone details here. Since he is a licensed medical practitioner, I have to think that your doctor would know what he's talking about. What alternative treatments did he offer? ## I called wall greens here in Oregon They said a Doctor can pr...

Going to pain management for my back. The Doctor wrote a prescription for 3 times daily or prn, so when can I ask for a refill? ## Hello, Mary! How are you? How many tablets was it written for? That would help determine the numbers of days, until it can be refilled. The FDA classifies this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## I am sorry I should have been more accurate. The scrip was written as follows: Hydrocodone acetaminophen 7.5-325 take 1 tablet by mouth 3 times a day as needed. The count is 90. Filled3-5-2015. Thank you for replying. Hope this helps me find an answer. ## Mary C, 1 Tablet 3 times a day for 90 tablets is a 30 days supply ...

I have a prescription with instructions to refill every thirty days. I am having a disagreement with my pharmacy who will only do the refill on the 31st day. Problem is there computer starts counting thirty days on the day after the prescription is filled. My doctor said I should still have Meds when I get my refill on the thirtth day. I have no Meds on the thirty first day. Guess I will have to change pharmacies. ## Yes, and to make it worse, there are 7 months with 31 days. That leaves the person without any meds for 2 days. It is incredible that pharmacists can't do simple math and accuse people of trying to fill EARLY when they are not given the proper amount prescribed by the Doctor. It seems the mention of an opiate makes them go weak kneed and stupid. ## Dr upped my dose of P...

I need refills for my mood stabilizer lamictal and can't afford to see my Dr. I have one prescription that involves me titrating my dosage up for a week and the refills are empty. Are doctors allowed to put refills on those so I can add my own in? I don't wanna get in trouble but I'm broke and bipolar. ## If you have a Costco nearby they have deep discounts on generics and I have gotten lamotrigine there. You don't have to be a member. ## No, you cannot add your own refills, that would be illegal and prescriptions are tracked and monitored by government agencies. Have you tried calling your doctor? They may be able to phone in a refill, until you can go in for an appointment. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including dry mouth, nause...

I'm in generally good health, but I asked my doctor for Vicodin to have on hand for occasional aches & pains and he prescribed 30 tabs (10mg). Question: generally speaking, how often can I ask for a refill without raising a red flag? ## Hello, Jerry! How are you? Unfortunately, there's no hard and fast rule I can give you for this. It really depends on your doctor, how understanding they are and how long they expect that prescription to last. It it was for 'occasional' use, they may expect it last you a few months. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Did you pharmacy list how many days supply it's expec...

I only see one doctor and he gives me a 3 month supply of xanax. When I went the last time he wrote me out a prescription but I still had two refills. I had a friend and her husband passed away and I gave her some of mine thinking I would have no problem re-filling the prescription. I had sense enough not to go to the same pharmacy and not to give my insurance information. So I go to this small drug store by my house and I had to fill out paperwork such as dob, name and my DL #. Well they paged me to the front of the store and advised me that it was 7 days to early for them to re-fill. So my question is where can I go to re-fill a prescription that is valid written by the same doctor. I only tried one place, I'm guessing they must have a data base if you try and refill your prescrip...

I have a prescription for Gabapentin that I used or anxiety. My doctor gave me a prescription for 3 months worth. I noticed on the label it says Refills: P what does P mean? ## I must admit this is one I am not familiar with and I'm wondering if it is a typo. Normally there would be a number there, or it would state no refills. However, only your pharmacist can say for sure, there may be some reason they use it. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Gabapentin as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

I filled my prescription 3 days after the doctor wrote it. It has a refill. Can I get my refill based on the written date or the fill date? The script was written on 6/9 with 1 refill after 7 days and the script was filled on 6/13. Can I get my refill on 6/15 or 6/19? ## No, the pharmacy will keep track and will not fill it according to the old schedule, they will go by the fill date, since you shouldn't be out, yet. Under current FDA and DEA guidelines, exceptions can usually be made for medications that are not considered dangerous, or habit forming, such as heart medications, or blood pressure medications, but even the final decision on that is up to your pharmacist. What medication as prescribed?

Me and my wife recently had a birthday party for my son. After the party I went into the bathroom to take one of my suboxone and i noticed the perscription was stolen. I have not reported it to the police or my doctor yet. I am not sure what to do. I dont want to ask my doctor for a replacement script because I dont know if I can get kicked out of the program. This program is the last chance for me to get my life straight and it is working so far but I am scared if I dont replace them that I run a risk of relapsing. My next appointment to get my regular refill is three weeks away. Has anybody ever delt with a situation like this or have any real advise on what to do? ## hi need help in ohio'...the best advice i can give you- is to try to find someone who you can buy a few from..enou...

I recieved a hand written prescription for 120 1mg xanax to last me a month, along with 5 refils. After filling the script at a well known "one stop shopping center", i was sick of the customer service so when i saw my doc next a month later i had him write me the exact same script to take to a different well known shopping center pharmacy. After paying cash because i lost my job and insurance and quit seeing my doc i still had 5 refills, and after filling and receiving my monthly script from the new pharmacy i called and found out i still had a few refills at the original pharmacy i went to. It had been over a month since my last refill so they gave me the script and i paid cash. So here i am with two identical sets of refills written by the same doctor at two unrelated places....

I am taking oxycodone/acetaminophen 7.5–325 mg. The pills are usually pink and round in color. Today I went to pick up a new prescription and they are white and oblong in color. I have a prescription for Tramadol (45 pills). I'm supposed to take one every 8 hours. When do I need to get a refill? ## How was the prescription written? If it was written directing you take one every 8 hours, then 45 pills would last for 15 days. However, if it was written to be taken as needed, your doctor might expect it to last longer. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. ## I have a script for tramadol 50 mg and have been advised to take 1 tab every 6 hours. Recently I had cancelled my Xanax prescription 2mg/2× due to the fact that they change the person I am. I have been prescribed Valium as well. I called my doctor to ask for a refill of the Valium, telling him I had cancelled the Xanax script. He must have misheard me and called in a script for Ativan .5/2× day. I picked up the ativan and called the doctor and left a message right away. I had the Ativan for two days and instead of taking the .5 2x I had taken 2mg twice a day due to the fact that is what the maintanence dose for anxiety is. My doctor called in the Valium for me but the pharmacist wants my ativan prescription back. There are 16 pills missing and there should only be 4 gone. Question is 1. do I explain this to the pharmacist 2. Is he allowed to do this 3. Should I...
