I have recently started taking generic Lipitor made by Ranbaxy and I'm experiencing tinnitus. Has anyone else experienced this?? ## These statin medications are notorious for causing odd problematic side effects in a fairly large percentage of people that try them. Learn more Lipitor details here. It can take about a month for your body to adjust to the medication and for such side effects to start tapering off in severity. If it doesn't, or if it gets worse, then you should notify your doctor. How bad is it? ## It's been about 3 weeks and the intensity fluctuates. I've been thinking that if it doesn't improve I would stop the generic Lipitor for about 10 days or so to see if the symptoms decrease or hopefully disappear. My doc says he never heard of any problem with...

I have been put on the generic nuvigil (armodaginil) 200 mg. I had started a new medicine about the same time and was having side affects of lipitor. I had swelling, sore joints, headaches, just felt awful. I went off lipitoror right away and about 3 weeks later I still feel awful. Has anybody that got put on the generic nuvigil have problems waking up or functioning at all. I'm very forgetful and just want to sleep all day. Doctors/pharmacy said Iit is exactly the same. I dont understand why since I got switched to generic it doesn't seem to work. I'm going crazy thinking this is all in my head. ## Which generic brand did the pharmacy give you? I'll bet anything your reaction is due to that. Even if the dose of medication is the same fillers/etc can influence how your b...

What is a common ingredient found in Losartan, Lipitor, and Zoloft? The first two gave me a dry hacking cough, and now I am getting the same side effect from Zoloft. Please help! ## There is no common ingredient, but each of them can cause that type of problem, in some people, due to the way they work in the body. Losartan is the active ingredient in that one, it's a generic for Cozaar, which is an ARB used to treat high blood pressure and cardiac conditions. Zoloft contains the active ingredient Sertraline, which is an SSRI antidepressant. Zocor contains the active ingredient Simvastatin, it is used to help lower cholesterol. So, none of them are used to treat the same conditions and they aren't in the same medication classes. I tend to have similar problems with a lot of medic...

Is it ok to break 80 mg tablets in half to acheive 40mg dose? ## Of course it is! You would be far better and cheaper if you were to buy a good generic atorvastatin though, as Lipitor is exceedingly overpriced. 80mg is a HUGE dosage of atorvastatin, and is equivalent in potency to almost 160mg Simvastatin, which many consider the superior statin. Have you recently suffered a stroke or myocardial infarction? ## It is okay to do so, as long as the medication is not time released, and your doctor approves. My cardiologist often prescribes some of my medications in a higher dosage, so I can cut them in half, since it is often cheaper that way. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Atorvastatin as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle aches. Are you on any othe...

Trilipix 135 worked for me, but I dropped it after abbive stopped their pap. In 4 months I will know if fenofibric 35 is working in combination with Lipitor 80. ## Hello, Bill! How are you? The Fenofibric Acid is the same thing, it's the generic for Trilipix, but that is the actual active ingredient in it, so it should also work for you. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, back pain, diarrhea, headache and skin rash. Lipitor is a statin medication and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and joint/muscle aches. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks. I am on fenofibric 35 and Atorvastatin 80, Lipitor. I'll be get my lab work this Summer, 2015. My only neg. has been HDL, so hopefully it'll work w...

I was put on the generic form of Lipitor. 40mg. I am small framed and weigh about 120. I started having muscle pain all over and was very weak. Also dizzy and diarrhea. Felt awful. Dr. took me off it immediately and my total cholesterol had dropped from 310 to 153 in less than a month. non hdl went from 220 to 74... but my ALT to check my liver is 46. I am starting to feel much better now that I am not taking it but I am concerned about my liver. Will my ALT go back to normal? ## Hello, Bambi! How are you? Those are all normal side effects of Lipitor according to the FDA, unfortunately. Many people end up so miserable on it that they have to stop taking it. Your ALT may go back to normal, there's no way to know for sure. You can only eat healthy, avoid taxing your liver and see wher...

Hi I am using this generic Lipitor. Doctor gave it to me for cholesterol. Recently I changed pharmacies, I am using the HEB I will like to know if this is correct. With the other pharmacy it was round and small, now this is oblong and has 33 27 has a line between the 3 and 2 guess if I wanted it in half. Thanks, ## Hello, Hilda! How are you? Is the marking possibly 93 27? Can you please double check and post back? If so, then you've received the wrong medication. I take Lipitor (now Atorvastatin generic) and Atenelol on a daily basis. I always take pills out of PX. bottles and put into special container away from children. As there are many generics around, I have mixed up my pills and I now have a white oval shaped (almost flat) pill and I do not know for which it is a substitute. Silly I know but if anyone one knows of a substititute for either of these drugs that comes as described above without any markings whatever, please let me know. ## It's not a prescription tablet, all such tablets dispensed in the U.S. have to have imprints to enable their identification. Thus, it's likely an over the counter product. Learn more prescription drug details here. What OTC products have you been taking recently? ## Thank you - that was indeed my t...

According to today's NY Times, Lipitor generic by manufacturer Ranbaxy was recalled in November because of possible glass particles. Recall applied only to pharmacies, and consumers who already had the contaminated pills were advised to continue taking them unless a doctor advised against it. Who was supposed to advise the consumer/patient? How was your doctor to know of the contaminated pills? I am on my last 90 day supply of Atorvastatin manufacturer Ranbaxy. I recently received my new supply of Atorvastatin from a different manufacturer Sandoz. Why? Is it conected to the recall and/or the contamination? My home delivery pharmacy is Express Scripts and my drug plan is through medicare via my union, UFT, plan. ## Hi Thomas, Many of these pharmaceutical companies have a strange way ...

My generic brand of Lipitor was recalled. CVS gave me replacement of above in the old bottom. Just wanted to double check the medication prior to taking it. ## The tablet in question contains 10mgs of Atorvastatin, which is a generic for Lipitor, so if that's the correct dosage, then you do have the right pill. Learn more Atorvastatin details here. You mean they just gave you back the same bottle? That's very unusual.

This medication is most commonly used to help lower cholesterol and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and joint/muscle aches. Learn more Lipitor details here. I just need to identify what pill this is. ## A white oval tablet with A10 on one side and APO on the other side is most likely Atorvastatin Calcium 10mg (NDC 60429-323). It is a generic for Lipitor and is part of the "statin" drugs for lowering cholesterol. Below is an image: Now, I said "most likely", because there is another drug with a different NDC code which is coming up as having the same imprint codes. That tablet is Alendronic Acid 10mg (NDC 60505-2593), which is an osteoporosis drug. Sorry but I don't have a picture for this one. The way you could tell WHICH one it is would be to measure the tablet. If it is 9mm wide then it's the first one. If it's a bit smaller at 6mm then it's the second one. I hope this info helps! I received a Lipitor 80mg pill, large white round and fairly flat, with "R" on one side and 196 on the other. Since it is different from the one I had been taking, I wanted to be sure it was the correct medicine. What do those markings mean? Is this just the same medicine from another pharmacy? ## Actually, the tablet that meets this description with the R 196 marking is listed as containing 75mgs of Clopidogrel, which is used to prevent blood clotting. Learn more Clopidogrel details here. It is not Lipitor or the generic for it, which is Atorvastatin. Learn more Lipitor details here. Did you get this as a prescription from your pharmacy?
