gelmicin cream on dog

Can it be used on dogs hot spots? ## Will it hurt a dog if ingested ## Hi Denise, Personally I think it would be a good idea to contact a veterinarian before treating any animal with any medication - Regardless of whether it's a cream or pill for ingestion. The way their system reacts/responds to many types of drugs can be vastly different from what we perceive as normal, so it's better to be overly safe than take even a slight risk with our pets. Something else worth noting is that if the cream isn't used properly, one of its active ingredients (Betamethasone - a steroid) may make some skin conditions worse off. I wish only the best for you and your pet! ## Our vet usually prescribes Otomax for any hot spots/infections, which has the same ingredients as Gelmicin. So it SHOU... ...

Can someone please tell me where and how to get this cream in the US? I can't get to Mexico. ## Your local swap meet or any Mexican stores (not like north gate or anything like that ) ## @Shari, From what I've read, two of Gelmicin's ingredients (Betamethasone + Gentamicin) appear to be available by prescription-only here in the US. Clotrimazole is also reportedly available OTC or via prescription depending on the dosage. Having said that, I think your best bet may be to make an appointment with a doctor and have he/she write you a script. You could then take that Rx to a (compounding) pharmacy to see if they'll be able to formulate something similar to Gelmicin per your doctor's request. I know this sounds like a hassle but it's still probably more feasible than... ...
