My dog was prescribed 1/4 tab 12hrs of tussigon for her gagging/hacking cough.Since she started this she has loss of appetite,is leathargic,and breathing labored at times.It seems the change occurred almost over night.She was taking Theodur but it didn't have the dramatic change in her behavior or demeanot.Is it too strong? What's alternative medication for tussigon. My dog is 15.5,15lb shihtzu with partially collapsed trachea, with cough/gagging episodes mostly upon waking up - drink water, excitement. He has been on tussigon 1/2 pill 1-2x p/d. Very hard to give pill. Tried everything from pill pockets, ALL kinds food, empty capsules, compounding, pill ejector, etc, grinding and add chicken flavor & 10 drops water and baby syringe into pocket in mouth to hide it. Pill seems to work better if administered NOT ground up. He fights and stresses horrifically! It's war each time & has drawn blood from my finger. Pill Very bitter. I have been taking 10 mg ofr Amlodipine Besylate. My problem is that it tastes horrible. Are there any of these in the generic that are coated. I gag every time I have to take this pill. I was switched to risperidone from Geodon about a month and a half ago. Since then, I have been experiencing problems with nausea and the feeling that I need to gag/dry heave. This occurs on a daily basis and can last all day long. Thursday, the 5th, my pdoc told me to stop taking the risperidone to see if this med was causing the problem. I woke up about 5:30 this morning after a tossing and turning sleep and felt just really out of sorts. Not nauseous, but somehow like my body was wanting to turn inside out, maybe like when you ache with a fever really bad. Could this be a withdrawal effect of stopping 1 mg risperidone. I'm 2 weeks in on this pill and I literally can cry at the drop of a hat. Even when I'm happy. Also my smells which are normally very heightened are 100 times worse. I gag constantly.
