I take Gabapentin 3x a day (AM-NOON PM) for extremely severe pain from spinal stenosis. The pain travels down my legs. Difficulty in walking My question is: What is the most Gabapentin I can take of this medicine without severe side effects? ## Hello, Harriet! How are you? I am very sorry that you're in pain. The important thing you need to know is that Gabapentin is not an actual analgesic, so it will not work like one to treat your pain and help with it, when you're having a day that's worse than usual. This is an anticonvulsant, it can help with some forms of nerve pain due to the affect it has on brain chemicals, but in order to help, it must be taken for about 4 to 6 weeks in a consistent dosing. You will not get more relief by taking extra on any given day, so please d...

Gabapentin, sold under the brand name Neurontin among others, is an anticonvulsant medication primarily used to treat partial seizures and neuropathic pain.[5][6] It is a first-line medication for the treatment of neuropathic pain caused by diabetic neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, and central pain.[7] It is moderately effective: about 30-40% of those given gabapentin for diabetic neuropathy or postherpetic neuralgia have a meaningful benefit...

Hi, I've been on Gabapentin for about a year for back pain (I have DDD and arthritis in spine and back) I'm taking five pills a day...600mg each. I've recently been told by (family and friends) that this is a dangerous amount I'm on and they're worried. I do have a doctor appointment scheduled but my doctor left the practice and I'm having to start over with a new one. My previous dr NEVER discussed anything about this drug. She kept telling me to up the dosage until my back felt better. Well, my back pain has all but disappeared. I'm hearing so many bad things about this med and I'm actually thinking this med might be contributing to my career struggle. I write for a living, and coincidentally around the time I started this medication I began having trou...

i had shoulder surgery 2 days ago and it is very painful. i have lots of this med left from when it was originaly prescribed for deep pain in 1 of my legs. i was told that a nerve that was too deep in my leg could not be accessed and this would help. my concern is if i take it now could it help with the pain from my shoulder surgery. or is it not a good idea ## Have you consulted your doctor about what you should take for the pain? Lyrica is not actually an analgesic, so it won't help immediately with pain, such as that which occurs after surgery. It is an anticonvulsant, which can also help with certain types of nerve pain, but for it to do it must be taken consistently for several weeks, before it really has much of an effect. ## funny you should mention that! it has now been sinc...

I have been on gabapentin for a about 4 months. Just in the past 4 weeks I have noticed horrible muscle pain in both legs (taking the med for nerve pain in left leg). I don't see the pain doctor until after Christmas, so was wanting to know if anyone else has experienced this, yet another, pain. ## Hi Linda, Based on my research, pain or swelling in the arms or legs is one of the less common side effects of Gabapentin. You can follow the link for more info: mayoclinic.com/health/drug-information/DR600709/DSECTION=side-effects I hope this helps! ## Thank you for the info. I take so many meds it might be hard to decide which one might be causing this new pain. I am having a spinal cord stimulator put in after the first part of the year. I am hoping I can get off all meds after that:) ...

I’m wondering if anyone else has suffered stomach pain as side effect of gabapentin? I've been on it for more than a month and a half. I have terrible constipation as well. ## Those are listed as possible side effects of this Gabapentin, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, and mood changes. I've experienced it myself, but to any degree of severity, and usually an acid reducer helps. Are you on any other medications? Have you ever had stomach issues prior to taking it? What does your normal diet consist of? ## Sorry, that should have read 'not to any degree of severity'.

My doctor has prescribed me gabapentin 300 mg capsules. for nerve pain in my back. I'm a little confused on how to take it. He said that I can increase my dose. Does this mean that I can take two at time since one isn't helping? I only take it at night when my pain is at its worst. ## I am on same meds i take 3 of those a night ## Our doctor, who is a prof at Duke says you can take up to 2700 Mg a day. A pain specialist we also had stated that if you are taking for example 1800 Mg per day to take one 600 in morning and two 600 at night. Both said not to take major steps over 300 or 600 Mg each week, and I did find that when I upped it or took it down that had to do it slowly. I have been taking 1800 Mg for 7 years now for shingle pain that took out the nerves in my face. ## I ha...

My eldery lady has back pain all the time, she is confined to her recliner and she doesn't walk. Will this combination of diclofenac, gabapentin & lidocaine help alleviate her back pain? However, one cannot distinctly say that it will or will not without trying it first. - Diclofenac is a NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) marketed for use in treating mild to moderate pain/inflammation. - Gabapentin is marketed for use in treating nerve pain (as well as certain types of seizures). - Lidocaine is a sodium channel blocker marketed for use in relieving pain and numbing tissue (skin).
