Gabapentin And Weight Gain

I take 600 mg. of gabapentin (3) times a day for nerve pain. For me it has been a miracle drug. I do have difficulty if not almost impossible losing weight and have even gained some. It has been worth the trade off to be able to feel better. Does anyone know how to counteract this? ## Hi Agnes, Sorry to hear about your challenges with Gabapentin. I take 800 mg 3x a day of Gabapentin for my diabetic neuropathy. Pain management is considering raising it to 900 mg 3x a day. In the past 3 months I have gained 26 lbs. My feet are also still burning and prickly. Since I started taking gabapentin 300mg 3 times a day. for neuropathic pain in the spine last December I have put on One stone in weight, I have watched my diet carefully but the weight still went on. It helps ease the pain but I can not afford to keep putting on weight..Any suggestions ## Unfortunately, that is a known side effect of Gabapentin, as reported by the FDA. It can also cause others, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and mood swings. You may want to ask your doctor about possibly trying Pregabalin, it is a similar medication, but may not cause you the problem with weight gain. Is there anything else I can help with?

I take 900mg Gralise, 25mg Nortriptyline, 300mg Tramadol ER, 20mg oxycodone. I've taken all of this for six years. I have cried and complained about weight gain as soon as I started all of these drugs but my Dr. Keeps saying they don't cause weight gain! I have been taking 30 mgs 0f Cymbalta and 300mgs of Gabapentin for about 6 months. Please help me! I feel like I'm losing my mind. My husband is taking gabapentin for a pinched nerve in neck/slash shoulder. Why would my doctor prescribe gabapentin when my blood pressure is difficult to control? It's 100/150 at times. I was complaining to my Dr that my hands are becoming difficult to control; I drop & throw things. My husband takes 2700 mg a day. Since his dose has been upped that high he has been experiencing severe shaking and tremors. His heart races and his muscles twitch as well. You can visibly see his body shaking. It is a constant state, not something that comes and goes. His doctor has yet to return his phone call. I'm taking gabapentin 300. I've been on it for the last 5 years to help decrease my rsd pain. I've met several other woman who use this drug and who have experienced the same side effect of causing dark spots on their cheeks. Is it the gabapentin causing this? I am on 300mg of Seroquel, & 4mg of Xanax per day since my return from Afghanistan for PTSD, anxiety attacks, bipolar, and agoraphobia. I also take Morphine, Soma & 300mg of Gabapentin for pain. I broke a few vertebrae & was also shot. I maintained my weight since I was a teen, but since the medication I've gained 30lbs & I do the same workout since I was 15 & no matter what I do can't lose weight. Can the Seroquel be causing this?
