I take 600 mg. of gabapentin (3) times a day for nerve pain. For me it has been a miracle drug. I do have difficulty if not almost impossible losing weight and have even gained some. It has been worth the trade off to be able to feel better. Does anyone know how to counteract this? ## Hi Agnes, Sorry to hear about your challenges with Gabapentin. According to the National Library of Medicine, rapid weight gain happens to be a general side effect of this medication. I'm not a doctor, but coming from someone with an athletic background, the best advice I can offer for counteracting it would probably be to follow a strict diet and exercise program. Something that you can commit to as long as you're taking the medication. I would also recommend drinking plenty of water (making that ...

Since I started taking gabapentin 300mg 3 times a day. for neuropathic pain in the spine last December I have put on One stone in weight, I have watched my diet carefully but the weight still went on. It helps ease the pain but I can not afford to keep putting on weight..Any suggestions ## Unfortunately, that is a known side effect of Gabapentin, as reported by the FDA. It can also cause others, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and mood swings. You may want to ask your doctor about possibly trying Pregabalin, it is a similar medication, but may not cause you the problem with weight gain. Is there anything else I can help with?

I take 900mg Gralise, 25mg Nortriptyline, 300mg Tramadol ER, 20mg oxycodone. I've taken all of this for six years. I have cried and complained about weight gain as soon as I started all of these drugs but my Dr. Keeps saying they don't cause weight gain! I'm a petite woman and was always fit and weighed about 107. Now I weigh a lot more, doesn't matter what I eat or don't eat, how much I walk or don't walk, it's been piling on a lot more lately. Do Gralise and or Nortriptyline cause more weight gain the longer you take it? Does it continue piling on the weight or does it eventually stop? ## Hello, Xanthia! How are you? I'm taking 300 mg of gabapentin three times a day and noticed a rapid weight gain. I think it's mostly water retention and I was wondering if taking one Lasix a day would help me loose the weigh and keep it off and not cause any other catastrophe. ## Hello, Margareta! How are you? With the possible risks associated with such rapid fluid retention, it would be best to have it checked out, rather than trying to treat it yourself. It does have the potential to lead to congestive heart failure. How long have you been taking the Gabapentin? It can also just cause regular weight gain and not just fluid gain. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness and mood swings. ## The drug made me pile on the weight and my tummy hammed it on. I was frighted to eat. I would try and come off...

Please help me! I feel like I'm losing my mind. My husband is taking gabapentin for a pinched nerve in neck/slash shoulder. He's 100 mile and hour, talks constantly (quiet before) easily angered, manic, can't sit still, cries (not a crier), happy, sad, furious, depressed, upbeat, all can change at any minute and on to the next. He has corrected me, yelled, humiliated me, and all this has happened in two weeks. I'm walking on egg shells, kinda scared at times. I try to talk to him about It and one minute he realizes that he's acting manic then the next it's my fault he's acting this way. ## Yes, Gabapentin can cause those types of side effects in some people that take it, according to FDA reports, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, and weight gain.
