Trying to find help to pay for my meds. I take gabapentin 800 mg three times a day and now they just now put me on a spin down where they won't cover my prescriptions unless I spend $1,600 every 3 months on medical. So I was wondering if there's any programs that you know of you can point me in the right direction? Thank you, bye bye. ## Hi Joyce - sorry to hear about your challenges covering the Gabapentin costs. Truly a sad thing to hear as noone should have to extend themselves financially to pay for a drug that helps them! Well, I imagine that you may have several options. One could be trying out a rx discount card like this one this site offers. It's free to use, and in some cases it can really offer a good savings on prescription refills. Another route would be to try ...

I'm being told by many pharmacies over the last couple of months, that they can not get the Greenstone Gabapentin. That Greenstone isn't accepting orders for it, with no reason why. Why is that? What's the problem? ## Hi Laurie, One theory is that the DEA could be involved with Greenstone's manufacturing process, limiting what they produce or ship out. But if the pharmacy is unable to give you a precise answer, this sounds to me like something that should be taken up with the manufacturer directly. Looking on their website it doesn't say that anything is wrong with Gabapentin, so I think it's safe to assume that it should be back at some point. Greenstone's customer service hotline is toll-free and can be reached at: 1-800-447-3360 I hope this helps!

Ive been on gabapentin 800mg 3 x's a day for several months for treatment of fibromyalgia pain and anxiety. I have been waking up every morning with diarrhea (2-4 trips to bathroom) for about the same amout of time, and my doctor claims the 2 are not related. I cant remember having a normal bowel movement since beginning the gaba and am wondering if anyone else may have had the same experience? The gaba has been the most effective treatment I've tried for the fibromyalgia pain & the added benefit of treating my anxiety has been wonderful as well & I'd hate to stop taking it. But if the trade off is daily diarrhea, i may have to stop! Of course my doc wants to run a bunch of expensive tests for the diarrhea, but if its as simple as stopping the gaba I'd rather sta...

Will gabapentin work for a severe toothache? I have gabapentin and it says it's for nerve pain but it doesn't list tooth pain. I know I have an exposed nerve. The pain is excruciating. Please help. ## Take Ibuprofen 800 mg every 4 hours non stop for 24 hours.. it will eventually stop the pain from being as bad also gel caps are better ## I have been taking Gabapentin 300mg for a while and decided to stop because of the side effects. I was having difficulties with breathing and sleeping. My blood pressure has also been higher than normal. I guess that everyone is different and it affects everyone differently. Was already on Gabapentin, low dose for Restless Legs when began having Nerve Problems in feet, and increasing unsteady gait. Am not Diabetic, no history of Nerve problems in family Then Neurologist started increasing dose and found myself on 4800mg/day before beginning own research, and found I was taking way more than recommended daily dose. Uncaring Neurologist! Since learning, I have been steadily decreasing dose since Aug/2014. Now on 2000mg/dqy, 800mg in morning and bedtime, 400mg at mid day, about 3:pm but with severe withdrawal symptoms-extreme pain. Have I tried to decrease to rapidly? ## Hello, Donna! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having. How big was your most recent decrease? Rebound pain can be a normal side effect of decreasing the dosag...

Have been on Gabapentin for a year. Built up to 3200 a day for osteoarthritis in my feet. Decided to get off as it wasn't doing much for pain. My doctor brought me down to fast from 3200 to 1600 to 800 in 10 days. Now having stomach issues, anxiety, trouble sleeping, tightness in my chest. Been off of it for 8 days now. Does anyone know how long withdrawal lasts? Been told the higher the dose and time on it that it takes a while to feel better again. ## Hello, Sandy! How are you feeling? Have things improved, yet? There is really no precise time frame that can be given, because it can vary from person to person, it can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to over a month. As listed by the FDA, other withdrawal effects may also include rebound pain, fever, chills, and diarrhea. ## No...

I take 1200 mg of gabapetin a day, 1 mg klonapin for sleep. From my rheumatogist. My pcp put me on ibuprofen 800mg every 12 hrs. And also lidoderm 5% patches. Will there be any side effects from the ibuprofen 800mg. And will I have any problems getting the new presciptions filled by my pcp. Just got the new scripts. ## Hello, Lynnda! How are you doing? Neither the Ibuprofen, nor the Lidoderm are controlled substances, so there shouldn't be any issues, just make sure that both doctors are aware of all the medications that you're taking and the Mescape database doesn't list any problems or interactions between these medications. The Ibuprofen is list3d by the FDA as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, so it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, increased r...

My neurologist has me taking 1200 Mg of gabapentin and my pain specialist increased that to 3000 Mg a day. Will that big of an increase cause me any problems or side effects? ## Hi Susie, Based on my research, many patients are being told that 1,800mg is the maximum recommended dose for nerve pain. Although another drug article I found states that, "Efficacy was demonstrated in clinical studies over a range of 1800 mg/day to 3600 mg/day. However, no additional benefit was demonstrated from the use of doses over 1800 mg/day." - I'm not sure if your pain specialist is aware of this? Regarding side effects, there's always a risk involved with any prescription medication. But if you're taking an increased dose, it's likely that your risk of experiencing certain side ...

Have lower back pain and was given 800mg Gabapentin to be taken 1/2 tablet 3 times a day. Only took 1/2 pill at bedtime, off and on for only a few months. My doctor moved and was given a different doctor who said my 200mg Zoloft a day wasn't working anymore so I should take a 800mg Gaba pill at night, he tapered me off the Zoloft by reducing 50mg every two weeks. I have been off Zoloft for a week and started wellbutin 75mg one in the morning and one at night. Note: I haven't taken the Gaba for 2 days and have noticed I am having anxiety, ring in ears, depression, crying at the drop of a hat, irritability, nausea, loss of appetite, insomnia, feeling like I;m going crazy. I believe these symptoms are from the Gaba what can I do to light theses symptoms? ## Hello, Gwen! How are you...

I take norco and trazodone at bedtime for back pain & insomnia. Now my doctor prescribed gabapentin for the nerve pain in my feet. Can I take them all at the same? ## Generally, it is advised that Gabapentin and Norco not be taken together, according to the NIH, because Gabapentin can increase the toxicity of the Hydrocodone in Norco. Otherwise, for you safety, it is said that your doctor should reduce your dose of Hydrocodone by 20 to 30%. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Gabapentin as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have been on norco 10-325 2-3x/day for about 3 yrs and gabapentin 800 4x/day (gradual dose increase over past 2 yrs). I tried gabapentin 300mg. (instead of Lyrica 50mg.) the first time I used it, it made my heart pound so bad I could not use it, could I use a smaller mgs. of gabapentin. I have spinal stenosis, I have diabetes, my legs jumps all over, can't sleep because of it. ## Hello, Betty! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you experienced. No, they are not the same. Lyrica contains the active ingredient Pregabalin, it is in the same class of medications, but different. Thus, it may work better for you. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain and dry mouth. I will talk to my doctor about coming off now. ## Hi Monica, Just wanted to add that in response to your last question about weight gain, NIH.gov does list what they describe as "rapid weight gain" on gabapentin's list of side effects here: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealt...

My elderly mother is prescribed 800 gabapentin 3x daily. She sometimes takes only one or two doses. What effects will this have? ## Hello, MsDeb! How is your mother doing? It is more effective if taken at regular intervals and taking is on such an irregular schedule could cause various side effects, such as mood swings, headaches and increased pain, as reported by the NIH. It isn't actually harmful to do that, but it can cause some annoyances, such as those I listed above. Is she on any other medications?

Is it safe to take 20mg baclofen, 800mg ibuprofen and 200mg gabapentin at the same time? I've been taking it for muscle spasms and sciatica. ## According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu / drug interaction tool), there are no drug interactions listed between Ibuprofen, Gabapentin and Baclofen. This doesn't necessarily mean that no interactions exist, so I would still encourage you to discuss this with your doctor first. However, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to take them together based upon my own investigation - Especially if these are all prescribed to you. I hope this helps!
