My husband is taking various medications for hypertension and cholesterol; he has also been prescribed Paracetamol for arthritic pain. However, he complains that if he takes Paracetamol it makes him sleepy and also causes retching (bile). Is this a common reaction, and if so which painkiller would be suitable for his arthritis? ## Yes, those can be normal side effects of Paracetamol/Acetaminophen, he may also experience headache and stomach irritation. It's really difficult to know what else he could take, without knowing the other medications he is on. There are some that should not be taken with other medications, or if he has any heart concerns, with his high blood pressure. Has he consulted his doctor? What is the generic form of prazosin, or prazosin alternatives/substitutes (when prescribed for PTSD or anxiety)? ## Prazosin is also minnipress, I've been on it for years for PTSD and it works wonderful ## @Debbie, Minipress is the brand/trade name and Prazosin is the generic name. As far as alternatives go, Prazosin is an "alpha blocker" - [which according to NIH is indicated for treating hypertension], so looking into other drugs of the same classification may be your best bet. The way it lowers blood pressure is by relaxing blood vessels. So I'd imagine that this mechanism is what would have a direct effect on anxiety or PTSD. I don't believe all blood pressure meds work in the same manner (e.g. beta blockers / diuretics), but it goes without sayin' that lowe...

For High blood pressure ## Regarding LoVasc; it does help to relieve hypertension. It would be best to consult your MD for precise dosing based on the severeness of the hypertension. I can say from personal experience of dealing with high blood pressure that the best way to control it is by eating low sodium foods, high in magnesium and potassium. Also a lower intake of grains in your diet will decrease the need for an alternative pill. Please post back if you have any questions or information to add, and I will help you.
