Folate, also known as vitamin B9 and folacin,[6] is one of the B vitamins.[3] Manufactured folic acid, which is converted into folate by the body, is used as a dietary supplement and in food fortification as it is more stable during processing and storage.[7] Folate is required for the body to make DNA and RNA and metabolise amino acids necessary for cell division.[1][8] As humans cannot make folate, it is require...

Why is this prescription form of Folate, B-12 and B-6 prescribed? Why not over the counter? ## Since you didn't provide a name brand or dosing, I can't be completely certain about this one in particular, but some of them are prescription only due to the amount of the vitamins that they contain. Some dosages aren't appropriate for someone that doesn't suffer a deficiency, as getting to much of some of them, especially B12 can be very dangerous. Learn more B vitamin details here. Are there any other questions or comments?

Help!! I have been taking vit B supplements but the hematologist said my body can't metabolize regular supplements b/c I have one strand of dna with MTHFR mutation. He said I need Foltx b/c my body can metabolize that type of vit B. What is the difference? it is expensive?! ## From what I've researched, Foltx reportedly contains the following B vitamins: Folacin + Cyanocobalamin + Pyridoxine In terms of differences: - Folacin is just another name for folic acid / folate / vitamin B9 - Cyanocobalamin is actually a cheaper synthetic inactive version of vitamin B12 made in a laboratory. By comparison, Hydroxocobalamin is another inactive form of B12, and Methylcobalamin is the only naturally occurring biologically active version of B12. - Pyridoxine is just another name for vitamin...

First, you need to find out why you are getting the clots especially if it does not have to do with an injury. I had two episodes of clots on my lungs and God left me here. The hospital did not want to do testing to find out why I was getting clots, there were no injuries. First they put me on coumadine, made me sick, skin turned gray, muscle weakness, boils under the skin, then xareltosimiliar side effects. My doctor did a MHTFR (methyl deficiency) which is b12 folate or colbanim deficiency and a genetic factor which may have caused my mother's heart attack at 50. Google this look at family history request, no demand the blood work up, insurance pays also homocysteine levels, important, if high may me causing you problems. Second Google nattokinase and serrapeptase, natural blood t...

I read 'Parkinsons Disease treatment guide for physicians' by Dr. J. Eric Ahlskog. He discusses use of the following:Folic acid 2.5 mg(I would prefer L-methyfolate), B6 25 mg ,B12 1 or 2 mg. Is the medication Methotrexate a steroid ? ## No, if falls under the DMARD category. (Disease Modifying Anti-Rhuematic Drug) ## I take that medication for lupus. It is also used as a cancer chemotherapy medication. It can cause your blood sugar to go high, especially if you are a diabetic, cause severe headache, and diarrhea. ## Metho is sytotoxic, it inhibits an enzyme that participates in the production of folate (related to Folic Acid). Methotrexate acts specifically during DNA and RNA synthesis. It has a greater toxic effect on rapidly dividing cells. Your doctor must have explained you need supplement with enough folic acid (as high as 2-10 mg at least 5 times a week) and B12, as well as antioxidants and other vitamins and minerals.
