An antibacterial is an agent that inhibits bacterial growth or kills bacteria.[1] The term is often used synonymously with the term antibiotic(s). Today, however, with increased knowledge of the causative agents of various infectious diseases, antibiotic(s) has come to denote a broader range of antimicrobial compounds, including anti-fungal and other compounds.[2] The term antibiotic was first used in 1942 by Selman Waksman and his collaborators in journal articles to describe any substance p...

Triple Antibiotic Bacitracin + Neomycin + Polymyxin B

Bacitracin[1] is a polypeptide antibiotic. It is a mixture of related cyclic peptides produced by Bacillus licheniformis bacteria, that was first isolated from the variety "Tracy I" (ATCC 10716) in 1945.[2] These peptides disrupt Gram-positive bacteria by interfering with cell wall and peptidoglycan synthesis. Bacitracin is primarily used as a topical preparation, as it can cause kidney damage when used internally.[3] It is generally safe when u...

Hello, my son was prescribed Antipyrine-benzocaine war drops in 2/2015. I had it put away sealed tight I poured some in my hand to check for any discoloration and looks clear as the first day we use. He is complaining of ear pain and I was just wondering if I can still use these drops since the expiration date is for 10/2016 which is this month? ## Hello, Tita! How are you? This is not actually an antibiotic, both of the medications it contains are used to alleviate pain and inflammation. If he has an ear infection, he will need an antibiotic, in addition to these drops. The FDA warns that the side effects of such drops may include dizziness, headache, ear stuffiness, and drainage. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have a abcess tooth which one is best cipro septra or keflex? ## Hi Brenda, From what I could gather, Ciprofloxacin is not commonly prescribed for dental infections. So it's probably not the best choice as a first line treatment option.. Septra and Keflex on the other hand, are more commonly prescribed by dentists for tooth and other mouth related infections, due to their broader spectrum. You may want to talk with your doctor about either one of those last two options to see what works best. Sometimes the right decision has to come from trial and error, depending on how your body reacts to each medication. Have you taken either of these medications in the past?

Can You Take Alka Seltzer Plus if you are on Antibiotics? Please let me know. LomQ ## First, let's assume that you're talking about the Alka-Seltzer formulation with the most ingredients in it. In this case, I'm pretty sure it's Alka-Seltzer Plus (Severe Cold & Flu). It contains: - Acetaminophen - Chlorpheniramine - Dextromethorphan - Phenylephrine I used the drug interactions checker on WebMD against the following antibiotics: - Amoxicillin: No interactions found - Azithromycin: No interactions found - Clindamycin: No interactions found I would still recommend double checking with your doctor to make sure the cold medication will not reduce the efficacy of your antibiotics. ## What specific antibiotic are you asking about? Without knowing that, I can't really ch...

I have an antibiodic for tmp and I have a bad tooth which causes the roof of my mouth and gum to swell with infection it is very painfull and I do not have insurance. I was wondering if this antibiodic was something that would treat this infection... ## Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim can in-fact be used to treat a tooth infection, but it is not usually the first choice for dental infections since many of them respond better to other alternatives, such as Penicillin and Amoxicillin. Learn More: Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethopriml Details I would also consider speaking with a dentist about the underlying cause of this infection, just to make sure it's not something that will be reoccurring. MSRA PLEASE LIST ANY RECOMMENDED ANTIBIOTICS / MEDS RECOMMENDED FOR THE STAPH INFECTION ## My Dr. rx for my mrsa : sulfamethoxazole TMP ds tab.. ## Yes, the most commonly used on is the one Carrie has listed, it is a generic for Bactrim. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, non-allergic skin rash, and joint/muscle aches. If someone does not respond to it, or is allergic to it, others can be used, but this is generally the first and best option. How are you doing, now? Has there been any improvement?

Unfortunately I took the first dose at 12:30-1pm so I'm confused on the time set up. Would it be 12:30, 8:30 and 4:30 am? The 4:30 am seems impossible to remember, then I would assume to just take the 8:30 then in the morning, do more breakfast lunch dinner type thing. Say I started antibiotics but then slept with my partner again - Did it just defeat the purpose for us both after taking the first pill.. ## If the doctor has instructed you to take one every 8 hours, then it is very important that you do so, even if it means setting an alarm to wake up and do it. For eradicating some bacteria, the antibiotics must be kept in your body at a constant level. And yes, if this involves some type of STI, you should not engage each other, until it has been cleared up in both of you. The FDA...

Hi. I went to clinic on monday for my papsmear for the first time and during that course the nurse discovered that I have a lot of discharge, so she prescribed green doxytet capsules. As I continued to take them I noticed a few side effects: tiredness, loss of appetite, and de thick discharge in de mornings. On the 4th day I used it I couldn't sleep at night. My question is, should I continue with the medication or not? Please help. ## Those can be normal side effects of this medication, but it never hurts to consult a doctor or nurse to be sure. I've also been using floxanose nose spray and I'm aching in my back and sicker now than i was when i went to the doctor. When taking prescribed antibiotics and the dosage is 1 pill twice a day, how many hours should before the next dosage? ## Hi Dman, Based on a 24 hour time scale, if you're required to take 1 pill twice daily, that "generally" means taking 1 pill every twelve hours. However I would recommend double checking this with your doctor first, in case he or she has special instructions for your individual case. I'm just wondering if I'm able to take a course of fluconazole one now or if I have to wait until I finish the course of antibiotics? Thanks ## Hello, Lucy! How are you?
