Fioricet Fiorinal

I have taken Fiorinal tablets for several years as it is the only medication that works for my headaches. I take 1/2 pill at a time, so taking a capsule will not work. I've been informed that Fiorinal tablets are not being made any longer and you can only get Fioricet capsules. Won't work for me. I've also been informed that the explanation for the discontinuance of Fiorinal is a manufacturing plant investigation. Can anyone explain that more? Is the plant investigation for this drug or for something else? If something else, that doesn't explain why Fiorinal is discontinued. I have tried other medications which don't work and I truly would like to find a way to get Fiorinal again. ## Hello, Peanut! How are you? That is correct, at this time, the tablets are no longer...

I am so sad that this is no longer available in a tablet, but only in capsule form. I usually take 3/4 of a pill and chop it and carry the pieces in a small plastic bag. Why would you take more medication than you need to solve a problem. I see on this blog that several have been chopping the pill in half, and like me this is one of the only resources I have left in medication for migraines. I'm allergic to a lot of medication. If only someone knew how we already suffer, they'd never make it harder for us. ## So relieved that I am not alone in my need and want for Fiorinal in the tablet form. The capsules do nothing to relieve the pain and upset stomach of a migraine headache. Fioricet is just as ineffective. Does anyone know if the tablets are available from a Canadian Pharmacy...

Hi- what is the reason we can no longer buy/get Fiorinal ? I don't understand and the "6 PM news" has never reported a word about this! ## Hello, Jr! How are you? The news wouldn't report it, unless it was a recall or something due to reasons that could be very dangerous. They typically don't report on drug shortages, or when something has just been removed from the market. And I've done quite a bit of searching, but I'm sorry, I've been unable to find any information on why it is no longer available. From what I can find, Fioricet is still available, which replaces the Aspirin with Acetaminophen. Learn more Fioricet details here. So you may want to ask your doctor about prescribing it, instead. Does anyone else know more on this?

Here's some definitive info from Actavis who bought out Watson. fioricet.com Briefly: New formulation is out because of FDA requirements (reduces Tylenol from 325 to 300). No change to Butalbital or caffeine mg's Tablets are discontinued. Only capsules are available. The formulation without Codeine is NOT a schedule III drug (Actavis received an FDA exemption) If your doc writes for tabs you may want to discuss having him alter the scrip so that it doesn't get bounced. The good news is that it looks like the Brand Name will still be available. I had GREAT luck with West Ward for over 30 years. The white tabs by Qualitest suck so I'm going to pay the extra and go for the Brand to see how well it works. Good luck everyone. ## Has anyone ever heard of the mfg, of butalbital...

I have fear that I may becoming allergic to aspirin and or acetominephine. I don't know what to do (itching not severe) if I can't take meds. when headache occurs. Help! ## Hi, I also itch when on the drug Vicoden. But, When I take them as prescribed instead of randomly my itching goes away- a lot of side affects go away after proper use of the drug. I would let your doctor know about this and ask him/her if this symptom will go away with prescribed use. To relieved my itching I took an allergy pill ( ATARAX ). For My dry mouth: by using BIOTEN. I have been on Fiorinal w Codeine and Fioricet as well as Valium for Sleep. I have 3 herniated disks in my back, Scloroisis, Nerve Damage in my left leg and Chronic Migraines. No Doctors in Rhode Island will any longer prescribe medication, if they do it is only one medication, I used to get all 3 of my medications for these problems from one Doctor who was my primary until he informed me that he could no longer write those. If anyone know's anyone in Rhode Island Please Help! ## Hello Thank you for your reply. I was wondering if this is just in Rhode Island, becuase I am close to the border of Massachusett's. Perhaps I might be able to find a good Family Physician there? My regular Md, just told me to go to see a pain Specialist and that they have alternative ways of managing p...

This is generic Fioricet (Butalbital 325mg / Acetaminophen 50mg / Caffeine 40mg) pain medication prescribed for severe migraine and sinus headaches. It has been around for decades. It is not an opiate and this is not considered a "scheduled medication", (yet, the brand name of this medication "Fiorinal" IS labeled a schedule III controlled drug). It may cause drowsiness and it can be habit forming. (Photo here: Pill Image) ## Thank you for providing such a thorough pill identification, description and image for reference. For additional verification, I also wanted to add that this pill is reportedly manufactured by Alvogen Inc. and carries a National Drug Code of 47781-0536. Does anyone here have feedback on how well this works for migraine and/or headache relief? From w...

I took these capsules, these were told by pham. that they are the same ingredients as foinal w/codine. But I am having red blotching all over my body, plus it is eyes & lips are swelling alittle.Help??? ## Okay, first of all there is NO Fiorinal with Codeine, Fiorinal contains Aspirin, Butalbital and Caffeine, it is commonly used to treat migraines. These capsules contain 30mgs of Codeine, 500mgs of Acetaminophen, 50mgs of Butalbital and 40mgs of Caffeine, so they are the generic for Fioricet with Codeine. That said, even if you have taken this same thing before, it is possible for an allergy or new side effect to suddenly occur. this site is not medical professionals, but this certainly sounds like an allergic reaction and you should consult your doctor or pharmacist IMMEDIATELY! ##...

I'm currently taking butalbital + acetaminophen + caffeine (50-325-40) and imitrex 109 milligram for migraine relief. I have been taking it for years, but two days ago I started experiencing numbness in my upper left lip. ## I take Fioricet all the time. I would bet it’s the Imitrex that did that to you. I haven’t used that med in years but I remember it gave me weird tingling or something. ## Hello, I also take Fioricet or Fiorinal and have for 30+ year's.. I have NEVER had or even heard of something like you describe.. I would also have to agree and say it's the imitrex. Check with your Dr, best of luck! ## Yes, this can be a side effect of Imitrex, according to FDA reports. Other side effects may include nausea, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and fever. How...

I would like to see an image of the pill by Alvogen marked A 247. And feedback on how it worked please. ## Hi Sue - The round blue pills from Alvogen inscribed with A 247 contain Butalbital 50 mg, Acetaminophen 325 mg and Caffeine 40 mg (NDC 47781-625) - generic for Fioricet. You can see an image from the manufacturer at If anyone has previously taken this please share your feedback in this thread. ## #SUE ~ I've had CHRONIC so for 35+ years. Back in the mid '80's thru the 90's, I took both FIORINAL + CODEINE (which has ASPIRIN in it) BEFORE my ULCERS & FIORICET + CODEINE (which has TYLENOL in it) AFTER I started getting ULCERS. IF you're getting EPISODIC MIGRAINES, like the type that my mother-in-law had (you get them here & there; once in awhile) those med...
