My dr in Mont., AL has been prescribing me 3 80mg oxycontin for several years. My visit last week he refilled my script and said it could be the last because he was told there was diversion possibly coming from his practice. Btw that was 3 a day. If he doesn't refill my script on my next visit, I need to find a Dr. quick. Is it legal not to wean a patient off? The pain clinics in this town are full. ## If he cannot continue to prescribe, he should be able to refer to another doctor or clinic that will accept his current patients. Has he suggested anyone? And yes, it is perfectly legal for a doctor to stop prescribing your medications, even if they are habit forming, at any time. They are not obligated to treat you or prescribe anything, unless you are in life threatening danger. As ...

Need an pain clinic too treat my pain i have had 2 knee surgerys and taken 2-3 Norco 10 is not treating my pain i also have back pain ## Try TVPC/Spine and Neuro Center in Huntsville. Dr Morris Scherlis is my anesthesiologist and he is great. My only issue with them really is that for office visits I have to see one of his two staff members and the guy(Greg) is kind of an ass. Sorta condescending and suspicious of patients it seems. Also, I have a few other issues besides my back/sciatic pain and I was on several different meds for it including Ativan for anxiety/stress and ambien for sleeping problems due to my pain...I've weaned myself off both of them in the past year and done the same with my muscle relaxers. I was so sick of taking so much medication I just had to do something....

I have a left leg gone and rods in my back and the doctor that dismissed me after the suit was over couldn't see me anymore because the car insurance wouldn't pay any more and he had me on all this medicine and now I need a doctor who will give me back my medicines ## Hello, Edward! How are you? Sorry about the pain that you're in. Do you currently have a PCP that you see regularly who could refer you to someone? If so, that would most likely be the easiest way to get the help you need. Does anyone know of any good doctors in that area?

I am moving to Mobile in two months. I am trying to find a cronic pain management doctor that will continue to prescribe me 180 30mg Oxycodone. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ## Unfortunately, there is no listing of doctors that I can refer to for you according to what they will or will not prescribe. Additionally, if you call around and ask if they'll prescribe such a medication, most doctors will view that as drug seeking behavior and not even let you get in the door. What you'll actually need to do is get yourself set up with a new PCP in your new area, then see if they can refer you to a pain specialist. That would likely be the quickest way to get the help you need. Does anyone know of a good doctor in that area? This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the po...

My pain doctor just informed me that he can longer offer refills on my norco because of it being classed as a schedule 2 drug norcotic now. That means i must go every month now and pay for an office visit. I know that is true in New York but i am not aware of any changes in Alabama law. As I do not have insurance now that would be a huge added expense to me. It would be a big added expensive even if I did with a $60 copay. Does anyone know of this change in legislation that I cant find? ## Hello, Craig! How are you? Yes, this change actually goes into effect at the beginning of October for the entire U.S. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anythi...

Does anyone know of this change in legislation that I cant find? ## Craig, some doctors, as they can't write refills, write 3 additional original prescriptions with them dated for the next three months. They can't be filled until that date arrives. You only have to pay the office visit every three to four months. Check with your pain doctor, he may be able to ...

I am trying to find a doctor in Montgomery Alabama who will prescribe Subutex for lower back pain and I have a couple of friends who go to a doctor for this but he recently stopped taking patients. I don't want to be on any kind of opiate BC of the chance of getting addicted to it. My friends all say it works great for them and I'm just trying to find another doctor who would prescribe me this, BC again, I don't want to be on any kind of pain killer but I also don't want to be in pain all the time. It would be great if you could help me out with this question. Thank you! ## Hello, Ryan! How are you? Actually, the active ingredient in Subutex is an opiate, Buprenorphine, so it carries the same risk of being habit forming as all other narcotics. The FDA lists its typical s...

In need of a new doctor. Mine is still my family doctor but cut me off of all my pain control, anxiety, & sleeping meds when I tested negative for Lortab & Percocet after a 9 day trip with my daughter's school to D.C. & 6 states in which I didn't carry my meds.I need one in Northwest Alabama that will continue to prescribe my Lortab, Percocet, Valium, & Ambien for chronic pain, anxiety, & sleeplessness. Any suggestions appreciated. ## Hello, Little Mister! How are you doing? Sorry about the problem that you're having. Why didn't you take your medications on the trip? If you need them, it only makes sense that you'd take them all the time, as prescribed. I'm sure that's why your doctor has taken such an action. If you require such medicatio...

Is anyone living in Alabama getting pill cuts of methadone? My doctor told me it was because of Governor Bentley signing in new opiate restriction for all pain doctors. (Not Clinics). Is anyone else going through this pill cut? I have never failed a drug panel nor have any of my pill counts been off. I know I have done nothing wrong so I just wanted to see if anyone else is being cut also... (I was wondering if maybe my doctor may have got in trouble and this is why but I don't know)? ## Hello, Sami! How are you? It is actually a directive that was issued by the DEA and applies all over the U.S. They have requested that everyone be put on no more than the equivalent of 120mgs of Morphine a day and some states have lowered it even further to no more than the equivalent of 100mgs of M...

Need to find a VA doctor at one of the clinics in Huntsville,al. Who prescribe pain meds for RA. I have a valid pain issue and my doctor took me off hydrocodone 10/325. Those helped me get out of bed without groaning and acheing for 20 min before i can get up. Now i am in pain and my doctor just wants to give me ultram. This med in no way helps. I hurt 24/7 ## That means your doctor thinks that you are addicted to medication buddy or you may have shown signs of being addicted sorry to hear that but the methadone tablets work for me very well they last almost 24 hours

Some advice I can give you is to not specifically ask for any 'specific medication' when you see a new doctor. Just make sure to transfer or take a copy of all your medical records with you. Then, the best approach in my o...

So does ANYONE KNOW AN DOCTOR IN DECATUR ALABAMA THAT WILL GIVE ME AN PERCEPTION FOR METHADONE.... PLEASE HELP ME I HAVE 3KIDS AND THE DRIVE IS KILLING MY CAR. ## Hello, Big Red! How are you? I'm sorry, but under the current laws, a private doctor cannot prescribe Methadone for addiction treatment. It can only be used in a clinical setting by those that are specially trained in its use for such. Learn more Methadone details here. I understand that the inconvenience of regular clinic visits can be a pain and you're not the first person to ask about this, but as I said, the laws ...

Does anyone have recommendations of any doctors who will actually manage your pain in North Alabama (Gadsden to Huntsville area)? I have been on pain management for greater than 10 years, always been compliant with my treatment plan, never failed a drug panel, have LOTS of documentation showing my problems but yet NO ONE wants to truly manage my pain. In the past it seems as if I am placed on a regimen that finally works then all the sudden the MD or NP says that due to DEA they can no longer prescribe meds as I have been taking (that they started me on mind you) and they drop my doses drastically??? During the 10+ years I have only saw 2 pain management MD's so I do not doctor shop, etc..after a significant cut (3 -60mg Oxycontin's, 3 -30mg Roxicodone PRN BTP, Soma PRN to 2 - 6...

I am a electrician for 17 years and my knees hurt and occasionally have bad aches in my feet and I've took other pain meds and for use to them and started getting use to them and took methadone and it works great ## Hello, Darrell! How are you? There is no such thing as a Methadone doctor, technically, any doctor that has their license and can prescribe medications can prescribe it for pain. However, due to the new regulations that were put in place last year, if you require such a medication on a long-term ongoing bass for the treatment of chronic pain, you'll need to see a pain management specialist. Do you currently have a PCP that could refer you to someone? That would most likely be the fast and easy way to find the help you need. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the...

Hi I am 40 years old and have trouble sleeping since I was a child due to horrible pain inv my legs and hips. I have gone 3 full days before with no sleep because the pain is so bad. I had some kidney stones removed just before Christmas and was prescribed norco 10-325. I broke those tablets in half and after the second day I realized that the pain I have suffered with for over 20 years was relieved with this medication. Unfortunately I ran out 2 days ago and I am now again unable to ignore the pain in my legs and find sleep. Help!!! I am in desperate need to find a doctor to write me methadone for chrobic back and neck pain. Hopefully near dothan AL or near panama city fl. Ive been going to a methadone clinic because i cant find a doctor and i cannot afford the clinic anymore. ## Hello, Tina! How are you? I'm very sorry about your financial situation and the pain you're in. However, if you've been going to an addiction treatment clinic, then that is what is going to be listed in your medical records, even if you were going due to pain, and a regular doctor will not be able to prescribe it for you. I know the clinics are expensive and very inconvenient, but that's the way the current laws are. Doctors that aren't specially trained to treat addiction can only prescribe it for pain and once someone...
