I read you should not be taking this if you have Hep B. What are the reason? I was prescribe this drug but my doctor did not inform me about not taking it if one has Hep B! Thank you so much. ## Yes, it is listed as being contraindicated in anyone that has a severe disease that affects their liver, such as Hepatitis B. This is because it is processed through the liver, plus it can increase liver enzymes, both of which could be detrimental to your condition. Learn more Fenofibrate details here. The safest thing to do would be to contact your doctor and ask them to suggest an alternative medication. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks for your input! I will talk to him. If you are on fenofibrate, do you have to be on it all your life? ## Not necessarily! Some people do manage to lower their cholesterol levels successfully and keep them low, via healthy diet and exercise, so they are then able to stop such medications. It can vary from person to person and may include such factors as how high their cholesterol has gone. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and joint/muscle aches. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks for the info. My Doctor told me that I would have to be on it for life even if my levels dropped.

It isn't a listed side effect of Fenofibrate, which is used to help lower cholesterol, but it is very difficult to say how any medication will affect any person that uses it. I started taking Fenofibrate 17 days ago. Every since then I have been in bed weak, nauseous, shaking, sudden onset of hot flashes, stomach and rib cramps and sweating something fierce! I thought I had the flu but never ran a temp and it just doesn't feel like the flu. Today I have been SO weak and it is scaring me. I am almost positive it is the Fenofibrate! My body feels on the inside like you feel when you have pushed yourself during exercise or running. Tingly and shaky. My blood oxygen levels are at 99% though. I am not taking this stuff any more! How long does it take to get it out of your body?? ## I am so very sorry about the problems you're experiencing, however, those can be typical side effects of this medication, as reported by the FDA . You may also experience heada...

Muscles pains and heavy tiredness, and low level of oxygen in the blood. ## Fenofibrate is most commonly used to help lower cholesterol and yes, those can be common side effects of most of these types of medications. You should talk to your doctor, as it may not be the right medication for you and you may need to try something else. How long have you been taking it? ## I took it for only 20 days, I was to take it for one month, but I had to go to Kailash Mansarovar journey on 16th July & while climbing even the common stairs I was getting heavy tiredness and pain in the back & muscles so I asked my doctor, he told me to stop taking it. But I had to face its worst side effects while on high altitude on the way to Kailash mansarovar via Tibet/china. There was pain and very low lev...

I suffer from alcoholic fatty liver. I no longer drink as of 1 month. my enzynes are now normal. my doctor percribed 160mg of fenofibrate. for high triglycerides( currently at 210) I have been taking for 9 days but am getting alittle concern. I have been thinking of tossing the meds. any suggestions? ## Hi jack, In my honest opinion, the best way to normalize triglyceride levels/reduce cholesterol is stay on top of your diet. A couple "fruit-only or veggie-only" meals throughout the day would probably have a very significant impact on normalizing pretty much everything; from enzymes, vitamins and minerals, cholesterol, excess fat, any acidity from the alcohol, etc. As you can probably tell, I'm not a big advocate of using prescription drugs, since there are so many natural o...

I am on fenofibrate 54 mg 1x a day and my dr wants me to increase to a larger dose. Can this be taken 2x a day until I use up my 90 day supply and then go to the next highest dose of 160mg? ## I'd suggest checking with your doctor or pharmacist, since 2 of them will still not equal the amount of the new dosage. What has your doctor advised? An increase in dosage could cause you to experience more side effects, which may include: nausea, dizziness, stomach pain and skin reactions. ## I am also on fenofibrate 54 mg 1x a day my dr wants me to increase to a larger dose can this be taken 2 x a day. Can the fenofibrate 54 mg tabs be doubled up like this per day? Why didn't he just order a one tab of 108 mg? Instead of me taking two tabs of 54 mg each??

I have been on this drug for Hypercholesterolaemia on and off for a couple of years but each time I have a constant chesty cough and sinus problems. The cough just doesn't stop and I get hardly any sleep. I used to take codeine tablets at night and this stopped the cough however I didn't want to continue on these as my doctor said they are addictive. So I am at my wits end. I have been on statins but my doctor took me off them as I suffered with side effects of painful muscles. I am getting really depressed as now I do not want to go out to public places as I always take really bad coughing fits. ## Hello, Liz! How are you? Yes, it is known to cause those types of symptoms as side effects, along with nausea, dizziness, headache and joint/muscle aches. Have you spoken to your doc...

I'm having muscle pains which I think are due to taking Fibril. My doctor prescribed this med because my tryglycerides were high. I've had high blood pressure and hypertension for thirty years and take Simvastatin and Blopress plus. My readings for BP are always good. I'm 65, have never smoked and competed to a high level in sports and I am still in the gym everyday. I'm also a non meat eater. Is there a better med for me to take other than Fibril. Thanks in advance. Tj.

Is it possible to reduce/control triglyceride levels naturally? I'm stopping fenofibrate, strictly following a diet and doing vigorous daily exercise to reduce 10 percent of my weight. ## Yes, it is possible and many people have done it. More recent studies in the U.S. have shown that these medications do not actually improve longevity and that elevated cholesterol levels do not cause a higher risk of heart disease and stroke. I am sure more studies are needed, but I am relaying what the current NIH reports detail. How high were your triglycerides? And what types of foods do you usually eat? How much exercise do you usually get each day? Are you on any other medications?

Since starting Fenofibrate 160mg I've been having headaches daily... Sometimes my muscle in my ankle hurts as well. It's a pain I never had before. I'm only 34 years old so I think I'm going just stop taking them and just watch what i eat and workout. ## This medication is well known to cause such side effects, according to FDA reports. You may also experience nausea, and dizziness. Are you on any other medications? How long have you been taking it? 34 is very young for high cholesterol. Is it a family health issue?

I developed dizziness and vertigo after taking Fenofibrate for one month and am still suffering from several bouts of vertigo after coming off of it at the beginning of february. I am wondering if anyone else has had this? ## That can be a normal side effect of this medication, according to NIH reports. It can also cause nausea, headache, and joint/muscle aches. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? Are you on any other medications?

I believe my creatinine level has gone from 1.5 to 1.7 in about 15 days and 2.5 in another 15 days. As a result of this I have stopped stanlip (fenofibrate) suddenly. Please advise. ## I ran out of fenofibrate 160 mg tab about a week ago. I have been very shakey, bad headache, dizziness, nausea. Is this from withdrawal?
