Expired Potassium

I accidentally took an expired diclofenac potassium drug, which was expired in 12/2016. It has been 15 minutes since I took it. What are the effects? And what can I do? ## This medication does not become dangerous, once expired, according to FDA reports, it just starts to lose efficacy. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and stomach irritation. How are you feeling? Have you experienced any issues? Are you on any other medications? ## I took diclofenac 50mg yesterday night and when I saw the expiry date it was 2016. So do I face any health problem because of this? I'm worried a lot. Thanks.

My 1 year old son got ahold of my mother-in-law's potassium CL 20meq er tablets that expired 8/31/2013. I think he only took one. Should I take him to a doctor? ## How is he doing? Did he suffer any adverse effects? There is no danger from them being expired, however, there can be problems if he gets too much potassium, it can cause heart and blood pressure issues. The only other typical side effect, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea due to the potency. Any time you are worried that someone may be in danger, especially a child, you should contact poison control or your nearest emergency services.

I have a box of recently expired K-Lyte effervescent tablets individually wrapped. 25mEq elemental Potassium (975mg) as potassium citrate. Expired Nov 2015. Would they be safe to use since they are individually sealed and only 4 months past expiry? ## Hello, Lynda! How are you? They don't become dangerous, once expired, but they can lose some efficacy and may not work as well as they did, when new, to raise potassium levels. Unless your doctor approves of your still using them, it would be best to dispose of them and obtain a new supply. The U.S. FDA lists their typical side effect as being nausea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for the reply. I appreciate the information.

I have this medicine but the expiration date is 9/12 is it still any good? ## Hello, Sue! How are you? The FDA classifies this as a potassium supplement. Once expired, it does tend to lose some efficacy, so it would be best to dispose of it and consult your doctor, if you still need to take it. It can be very harsh on the stomach, so it should be taken with food. Is there anything else I can help with?

A beige oval pill with CIBA over 165 on one side, nothing on the other side. ## why do children like CIBA 165? Is it dangerous, addictive? ## I wish I could answer this, but I am unable to find a listing for this tablet in any of our resources. Do you have any more information on it? Do you know what country it is from? ## Hey fam i found this bottle in my grandparents cabinet a while back and it said they are Slow-K Potassium Chloride slow release tablets 8 mEq (600 mg) This bottle also expired July 1983 so there could definitely be a different medication by that name by 2010
