I found 4 year old expired oxycodone in my medicine cabinet and I would like to know if its still safe to take? I don't know much about medicine so I'll just write what the label says: OXYCODONE W/APAP 5/325 TAB MCK subsituted for percocet and the pill has a 512 stamped on it? ## If you are asking if it becomes dangerous as it ages, the answer is no. It does not, however, these medications will lose potency over time, so it may no longer work as well as it did when it was new and may have no efficacy left at all. Taking more, to try to relieve pain can be dangerous, since these also contain Acetaminophen and too much of that can be toxic, to the point of being fatal. The wisest idea is to properly dispose of them and see your doctor for a new prescription if you need help with p...

I recently broke two of my fingers and I am experiencing major pains, I have left over oxycodone 5-325mg that was perscribed to me 2 years ago is it safe to take? ## Acetaminophen with Oxycodone is a generic for Percocet, a narcotic pain reliever. If you are asking if it gets dangerous with time, then the answer is no. It does, however, lose effectiveness and will not work as well as it did when it was new. That said, have you seen a doctor for your fingers and what have they suggested you use?

Oxycodone HCL 5mg tablet expires 9/25/2010...Is this dangerous to take if expired? ## Certain drugs are actually okay to take after expiration, whereas others such as antibiotics can become toxic. My personal assumption is that it lost a good percentage of its potency by now, having been 2 years past the expiration date. It may still be effective, but not nearly as potent. It's also impossible to give a direct answer to this question, since each medication can effect people differently. We all know that it's better to avoid the expired drugs and stay on the safe side, but unfortunately, the only way to find out is to actually try it. I wouldn't suggest taking that risk, but if you have no other option then it's probably worth a shot. There's a good little article lin...

I have Oxycodone that expired in 2000, is it safe to take? ## Wow, that is some old stuff, almost 10 years. Have out of date oxycodone prescribed to me in the past. Instead of going back to the doc an getting charged $700 is it safe to take them. ## Most solid form medications, such as tablets and capsules containing powder, do not become dangerous once expired, but they can lose effectiveness, so they may not work as well as they did, when new. Thus, it is actually best to dispose of them, and see your doctor for a new prescription, if one is needed. The FDA warns that Oxycodone carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. $700 is a lot to be charged for a doctor's appointment. Can oxycodone that expired a year ago still be used in an emergency. ## Hello, Hal! How are you? This medication does not become dangerous, once expired, but it does begin to lose effectiveness. Thus, it could be used, if your doctor approves, but the best thing to do would be to dispose of it and obtain a new prescription. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I have oxycodone acetaminophen 5 325 from Nov.2012. Is it still usably effective? ## Hello, Dorcas! How are you? If it's in a bottle as dispensed by your pharmacy, then it expired and began to degrade one year after it was dispensed to you, due to the fact that those bottles expose them to heat, light and moisture. Thus, it would be best to dispose of it and see your doctor, if you require something for pain. The FDA lists this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## The one year expiration date on pharmacy issued drugs is required by law and has nothing to do with the actual shelf life of a drug. A 3.9 mill...

I have been told over & over that my prescription for oxycontin has expired after 14 days. I have had this problem with CVS Caremark, Inc Mail Order Pharmacy numerous times. This went on throughout 2014 & in to 2015. They continue to screw with me. They will fill it, then they won't. I have been told by my Dr. who's office is in NV that it is valid for 30 days, but because I live in Arizona, CVS says it's expired after 14 days. I know for a fact it is still valid but they continue to argue with me. I am wondering if any one else has experienced this problem with CVS & if you'll be so kind as to reaffirm the RX is still valid after 14 days. They have also gone as far to tell me the reason they are holding my RX was because the DEA no. is not on the RX when cle...

i found a few cor 226 pills in an old oxycodone bottle the pills are a darker blue than the pictures online the script was filed last oct and is good until this coming october 2012, so why are the pills a darker blue ? is it because it is discolored from being in the bottle for 2 long ??? according 2 the bottle the pills havent expired yet ... ## If you don't want to take a chance you can mail them to me. It would save me a ton of money on gettin my scripts filled if their still good. ## It is hard to say why the color looks darker, the online images may be affected by your monitor settings, the pills may be aging, the company may have used a different dye than usual.... The color actually doesn't mean anything. Are there any other comments or questions? ## The blue ones are 30m...

Is Flexeril similar to Roxcets? ## NO! Not the same type of drug at all. Flexeril is a muscle relaxant containing Cyclobenzaprine. Roxicet is a narcotic pain reliever containing Acetaminophen and Oxycodone. ## No Flexeril is a strong and good muscle reaxant, also causes sleepiness, Roxicet is a STRONG!!! Narcotic. ## I have flexeril that expired in 2007... can I still take it if the bottle says it should be yellow and its more of a peachish color....? No odor.

I was prescribed hydrocodone 10/325 for severe back pain and they did nothing for the pain, not even when I took two at a time. The doctor then prescribed dilaudid 4 mg, this too did not touch the pain at all. I took the dilaudid back to the doctor and had them dispose of them. They then prescribed oxycodone 5mg. These do nothing as well, I took two at once and just got a stomach ache. I stopped taking all pain medications as they just were not working. Yesterday, I found an old bottle of vicodin 10/325 that I had from a previous surgery and even though they were expired - I took one and it worked! Within an hour I had more pain relief than I have had since I began seeing my current pain doctor. I wonder if it is possible that someone at the pharmacy is substituting my prescriptions wit...

I ha e an old bottle of oxicodone 5mg that I have been keeping for a rainy day. Well, I just had surgery and the pills are now almost 7 years old. Can I still use them? I live in the desert, so it's very dry. Thanks, ## Hi Alice, While I usually don't condone the use of expired medication, there are several reports (namely one from Harvard University as well as one from the LA Times Newspaper) confidently stating that many medications still retain up to 90% of the active ingredients after 28 to 40 years past their official expiration dates. Hydrocodone was among those medications listed in the LA Times study, and even though Oxycodone was not, my understanding is that it probably still works just fine depending on how it was stored. So in cases like this it seems as though you w...

actaully i know two emts personally and oxycodone left sitting for years does not lose potency. sinec its made up of different chemicals then hydrocodone or codeine it gains potency strength over the years. ## Do you have any links to articles or videos explaining this? It sounds good and hopefully it is true; but definitely would be tragic if someone took this advice and got sick from an expired pill...just saying. I do agree that certain drugs are actually okay to take after expiration, whereas others such as antibiotics can become toxic; but nothing lasts forever without expressing signs of degeneration. The only real way to know how long a drug can maintain it's potency after expiration, would be to have it lab tested periodically. There's a good little article linked below ...

expired in 2003 ## Oxycodone does not get dangerous after its expiration, however, it can lose effectiveness and not work as well. Since it's been 7 years, I am betting that what you have is probably not going to work to treat pain after all this time. In many cases, when someone uses an expired medication, they end up taking more and more of it, to try to get the same level of effectiveness and this is not a safe practice. The smartest thing to do would be to safely dispose of the tablets. Do you have any questions?

I have to take a hair follicle drug test and I have a script for Hydrocodone. About 2 months ago I had a horrible infection in my mouth and I took 2 percocet 5/325 mg. over a week period for the pain. My script for this was expired. This is a pre employment screen and I want this job in the worst way. I'm so worried about the drug test. Will this amount of oxycodone that I took that long ago show up? ## I don't think you should have any thing to worry about pills usually stay in system for 3days maybe four, just drink plenty of water to flush yourself don't over do now up to recommended daily water for us humans lol which is 8 glasses a day good luck on the job also ? ## Is this true with the hair follicle test also? I heard you only flush when you're getting a urine test...

I have a 5 panel hair follicle drug test coming up. I have a script for Norcos so I'm ok on that but my question is that I took about 4 at the most of 5/325 mg oxycodone about 2 months ago . I took them over a 2 week span. I took them for a horrible infection in my tooth. I had the bottle but it is expired. Will the oxy show up in my hair test ? I want this new job in the worst way and am so worried. ## Did you pass your test? Do you know if it was it an extended panel test?
