I have a vial of B12 with expiration date of 4/2012, is it safe to still use it for injections ## I would of coarse never recommend taking expired "anything", but generally vitamins are still ok to use shortly after their expiration date, and if it's not as potent or effective, at least you'll know why. April was only two months ago, so I doubt that it will have lost much or any of its potency by now. I have some expired Vitamin C powder from Feb. 2012 and it still seems to serve its purpose well today. It may just be me, but I think the expiration date on vitamins isn't as accurate as we're lead to believe. From my perspective I think the quick expiration date on many products is just to get you to buy it more frequently than necessary. I hope my opinion helps! ...

What if u take the pill but expiration was one and half years prior from todays date ## Hi jae, According the a news letter in the LA Times, The Acetaminophen found in your green Excedrin pill is good for up to 28-40 years past the official expiration date; provided that it was stored properly (i.e. in a cool dark place). And given these details, I'd imagine that the Aspirin in Excedrin would have a similar life expectancy as well; certainly well above 1 1/2 years. But if you're interested at all in checking out the article for verification of these statements, you can also run a search for the following keywords on google: "Many drugs are just fine years after they 'expire,' study finds" Hope this helps!

expired 6 months past expiration date Meloxicam ## If you're thinking about taking it, the Meloxicam should still be fine. According to a Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. More specific details on that article can be found here: health.harvard.edu/fhg/updates/update1103a.shtml I hope this info helps!

Are expired ferrous sulphate pills safe to take? They expired in 08. ## When it comes to drugs/medication I think it is best to not take any chances with the past expiration date. They MAY still be ok to take if they haven't been exposed to a high amount of heat or various other conditions outside of the bottle, however I am not a pharmacist or MD, so I cannot guarantee if it is in fact safe for you to consume. There is still a high likelihood that it lost some of its potency and may be ineffective to the point where it could harm your body by not doing it's job all the way, per say. I would recommend contacting your local pharmacy or doctor to assess if the quality of the drug still remains. They may have certain tools or methods for measuring this sort of thing. Please post ba...

can scopex syrup be used after the expiry date. and if not, why? ## Hello, Tarin! How are you? No, a liquid breaks down and loses efficacy very fast, so once expired, it's no longer viable as a medication. You should see your doctor for a new prescription. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Does the same apply to scopex sugar coated tablets? What is the shelf life of scopex?

Can purbac antibiotics cause harm if it expired 4 months but was kept in the fridge? It was taken accidentally without checking the expiry date. can it become toxic? ## Hello, Pierrie! How are you? No, this antibiotic doesn't become dangerous once expired, but in liquid form it may turn bad and make someone slight ill, it will also lose effectiveness. You should watch them for nausea and vomiting, if it gets severe, they may require medical attention. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

Can I take Bentyl that expired 8/10, 9 months ago? ## As with anything, whether it be drugs, food or drink, you should not take them if they are out of date. The date is on the packet for your safety, and you could experience more adverse effects from taking out of date medication. Also some medications can begin to loose their effectiveness passed the expiration date, so it would be best in your case to just request a new prescription given the length of time that it has been out of date. However, if you'd really like to be certain about the pills degradation, you would have to take them to a lab and have them evaluated for quality assurance. I don't know how to go about that procedure, but I am sure it will be cheaper and less stressful to just get a refill. ## Check with your...

So i’m just wondering if i’m able to take 3 month expired buspar? I haven’t been sleeping again due to my anxiety spiking up super bad at night causing me to have panic attacks in my sleep.. i haven’t been able to go to the doctor and they can’t fit me in until next month but I found my old Prescription that has the date to discard as 2/4/22. Will they still help me sleep?? ## Most medications that have been expired for a short time are still ok to take. Few, if any develop any kind of dangerous issue. Typically, the med begins to lose efficacy. I’m not a doc, or a pharmacist, and I would suggest you call a pharmacist and run this situation by them. ## What Beth stated is correct, this Buspar does not become dangerous, once expired, but it may begin t...

Hi. Can you please tell me what the symptoms of using expired Canex V are? ## In this case, since it is an antifungal cream that's commonly used treat yeast infections, the worst side effects would like be a funny odor and skin irritation, according to the NIH. It doesn't become dangerous, nor will it necessarily cause any harm, except for possibly a rare infection, if it is too old and has gone bad. ## Canex has expired 6 months ago can I still use it ## Hi please help me. I bought it in 2021 and used it twice that year. So it's been 2 or 3 years. Can I still use it or should I buy a new one? It doesn't even have and expiration date listed. ## I bought mine in 2020. I still use it and it works perfectly well... I don't know if that's a good thing? ## I bought it...

I have a bottle of 25MG Topamax that I take 3 pills (75MG) at bedtime for extreme headaches that make my skull bulge where the pain is. I noticed that the pills expired 3/22/2011 but I no longer have medical insurance. Are they still ok to take? ## Topamax isn't a medication that gets dangerous, per se, after the expiration date. But it does start to lose effectiveness, so it will not work as well as it did, when it was new. The effectiveness will also be affected by how it was stored. For instance, if it was stored in a dark, relatively cool, dry place, then it will degrade much slower than if it was store in a brightly lit, warm, damp area. Learn more Topamax details here. I know it isn't always financially possible, or practical, but as soon as you can, the best thing you can...

hi i went to the clinic yesterday with a problem of having a discharge than the nurse gave me doxytet only to find when i got home that the pills expired in July 2013 i only took two pills will i any side effects in my body? ## Sorry to hear about your experience with getting older medication. With most types of drugs, the only thing you'd have to be concerned about it is if it lost any potency. However, when it comes to specific types of antibiotics (namely those associated with tetracycline, such as Doxytet/Doxytetracycline), it can become toxic after the expiration date. I honestly wouldn't recommend taking any and if possible go and try to get your money back from the clinic. It's a good thing you checked first before taking the full prescription, because you never know ...

is it safe to take expired Horizant? ## Hi Kitty, According to the LA Times, many medications remain good for up to 20-40 years past the listed expiration date, depending on the substance and how they're stored. Harvard Medical School also has a very similar article stating that many medications are good beyond the 10-15 year mark. Ref: 1) health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/drug-expiration-dates-do-they-mean-anything 2) articles.latimes.com/2012/oct/08/news/la-heb-expired-drugs-still-work-study-20121008 I don't have a complete list of these exact medications, nor do I encourage taking something that's been expired for quite some time, but from what I've read, it does seem to me that the date listed is often based on mere speculation and not evaluated by manufacturers for...

I have 50 mg tablets and they expired on 2/20/2015. I recently found them buried in my closet and started taking them. What harm can it cause? ## No harm, but they may not be as effective as they were, when new. Medications do tend to lose efficacy over time, according to NIH reports. However, the caveat I will add here is that the U.S. is one of the only countries that requires expiration dates, most others do not. But, it is always best to check with your doctor or pharmacist. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

My Losartan 50mg white round pill has an odor when opened. It also states on the bottle from Walmart, "issued MAR 2015". Is this good? ## Hello, Palette! How are you? If it isn't coated, Losartan always has an odd odor, I've taken it from several different manufacturers over the years and I've experienced this, as well, I can also tell you that tasting it is even worse!!! I've accidentally had it happen, before, and it was not pleasant! Pills generally have an expiration date of one year from when you receive them from your pharmacy, if they are in a normal pharmacy bottle, but the expiration date can be as long as 4 to 5 years, if they are still in the original factory sealed container. The FDA does warn that they may lose efficacy, once expired, so they may not...

I have several 15 mg tablets of MS Contin. They are 4+ years old. What is the shelf life of this medication? ## From what others have stated, Morphine has an expected shelf life of 2 years. However, there's actually a lot of conflicting information out there around the topic of expired medication. According to a Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. This conclusion was based upon a study conducted at the request of the US military due to stockpiles of expensive drugs they could otherwise need to replace every few years. The conclusion was that 90% of those drugs remained effective 10 - 15 years after the expiration date. But t...

i have chronic back pain however try not to take medication unless i have to. i have left over flexeril 5mg from a prescription written in dec. 2009 and expires 2010. is it safe to take for muscles spasms or should i toss it. i like to keep some in my cabinet because the few times my back gets really bad i am unable to get out of bed. ## Flexeril contains the active ingredient Cyclobenzaprine, which is a muscle relaxant and you should contact your doctor for a new prescription, because it does lose efficacy past the expiration date, so it may not work as well as it did, when it was new. This creates the danger of overdose, by taking more, to get the relief you need. Almost all medications have a limited shelf life and will start to lose efficacy past that date. Are there any other quest...

The expiration date on the Vandazole packaging says 02/2009. Can I still use it since its only been 3 months after? ## When It comes to any medication, I think it may be a good idea to start fresh with a new prescription, and not worry about whether or not the drug works like it's supposed to due to the expiration. The medication may be fine, however only you and your doctor can assess what and when it may be alright for you to take Vandazole.

Can I take meloxicam if it expired on 11/21/2015? ## Hello, Leo! How are you? This medication does not become dangerous, once expired, but it does start to lose effectiveness, so it would be best to obtain a new prescription. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and stomach irritation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## My husband is on meloxicam and on the foil package inside it says that it expires on 10/16. Vicodin dated disregard after 2011 is if expired ## Once they have been removed from the original factory sealed container and dispensed to you in a pharmacy container, which exposes them to the elements, the expiration date is on year from when you receive them. They don't get dangerous once expired, but they do start to lose effectiveness. After several years, they are likely worthless and you should just properly dispose of them. Are there any other questions or concerns?

I have a prescription dated 3/02/2010. Are they still good to take? ## Is Fexofenadine Pse 60, 120 mg gluten free? The numbers on the pills are 93 T13. ## Blew, tablets are generally good for one year from the date they were dispensed by your pharmacy, so the expiration date should have been 03/01/2011, after which they start to lose efficacy. It is probably best to see your doctor for a new prescription. Michelle, the inactive ingredients in those tablets are listed as follows: Microcrystalline Cellulose, Croscarmellose Sodium, Magnesium Stearate, Carnuba Wax, Stearic Acid, Silicon Dioxide, Hypromellose and Polyethylene Glycol.
