I would like to know if Hydroco/apap 10-500mg tablets are still good after a year and for how long they are good. ## Medications have an expiration (usually of 1 year) because by law it must have one. If you had these hydrocodone/apap pills in a dark, cool place such as a kitchen cabinet, bedroom drawer, etc. chances are still fine. Most pills are actually good for two years from the fill date as long as they are cared for properly. If you had them in the medicine chest in the bathroom, (a bad place for medication) then they may have lost some or all of their potency. When a medication like this one becomes older, it is not really dangerous to take it, rather it might have lost some of it narcotic and/or acetaminophen properties. DO NOT USE THIS RULE FOR EVERY MEDICATION ESPECIALLY FOR ...

I have had several pain intensive surgeries followed by Dr. prescrptions of Vicodin & Percocet on various occasions in the past. Each time I would have surplus meds (with dispose of dates listed on container) leftover after pain subsided. My question is do these meds have a shelf life where they become ineffective or worse, toxic? ## No, these types of medications do not become toxic, but they will start to lose effectiveness past the expiration date. There's no precise time frame to give, because it depends on storage conditions, but the one year date from the pharmacy is the maximum time they can be sure they'll remain fully effective. Learn more Vicodin details here. Learn more Percocet details here. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks for the expiration inf...

I have oxycodone acetaminophen 5 325 from Nov.2012. Is it still usably effective? ## Hello, Dorcas! How are you? If it's in a bottle as dispensed by your pharmacy, then it expired and began to degrade one year after it was dispensed to you, due to the fact that those bottles expose them to heat, light and moisture. Thus, it would be best to dispose of it and see your doctor, if you require something for pain. The FDA lists this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## The one year expiration date on pharmacy issued drugs is required by law and has nothing to do with the actual shelf life of a drug. A 3.9 mill...

substituted for vicodin is hydrocodone acetaminophen 5/500 white oblong shaped tablet imprinted with l544 and has an expiration date of 03/09/2013. Can this still be used safely? ## Hello, Zettie! How are you? White, oblong tablets with L544 on them are not Hydrocodone, nor any type of narcotic. These tablets are manufactured by Perrigo and they list them as containing 650mgs of Acetaminophen in an extended release formulation. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness and headache. Regarding expired medications, most tablets don't become dangerous, once they are expired, but they do tend to lose effectiveness, so you should dispose of them. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Can 4 year old 10mg hydrocodone still be taken and effective fo...

My doc after looking at my MRI for my back, me having no insurance, sent me to a specialist that i can't afford. He stopped all pain pills and put me off to someone I can't pay to see. So after having pain problems since march of 2013 and being prescribed pain meds, it suddenly stops and he won't refill them. I found some vicodin 5-500 (hydrocodone-Acetaminophen ) from 2011 and wondered if I can still use them for my back pain. ## You could try, they probably won't be as strong. Just try 1at a time though, at 1st ## @sweeper2, This may come as a surprise, but according a study from Harvard Medical School, many medications can remain effective for even up to 15 years beyond their listed expiration date. I have not seen the actual list of drugs used in this study, but I...

I have some Excederin PM that expired on Sept. 2009 and it is now march 2011. Is it safe to take it so long after the expiration ? it is hard to get where i live. thank you ## Excedrin PM contains Acetaminophen and Diphenydramine. No, neither one of those gets dangerous after the expiration date, but they will lose effectiveness, so may not work as well as they used to and since they do contain Acetaminophen, you will have to very careful about taking any extra tablets, because it can be toxic if you take too much in 24 hours. Are there any questions or comments?

What if u take the pill but expiration was one and half years prior from todays date ## Hi jae, According the a news letter in the LA Times, The Acetaminophen found in your green Excedrin pill is good for up to 28-40 years past the official expiration date; provided that it was stored properly (i.e. in a cool dark place). And given these details, I'd imagine that the Aspirin in Excedrin would have a similar life expectancy as well; certainly well above 1 1/2 years. But if you're interested at all in checking out the article for verification of these statements, you can also run a search for the following keywords on google: "Many drugs are just fine years after they 'expire,' study finds" Hope this helps!

Batch number and expiry date for paracetamol manufactured in 2011 ## Pls confirm the expiry date of paracetamol tablet mfg in Oct 2013 ## Hello, Unfortunately, I don't believe there is a public way to look up medication by the batch number to verify such information. From what I understand (and please correct me if I'm wrong), batch numbers are generally only used by the manufacturer to keep track of production...Once it hits the shelf batch numbers don't appear to have any use, unless there's a recall or something of that nature which pinpoints specific packages. Perhaps speaking with a pharmacist can add some clarity to this? Concerning the expiration of Paracetamol (also known as Acetaminophen or Tylenol), investing in a fresh product is always going to be your safest...

found a bottle of tynol, the date is expired, is it safe to take, still have a bottle left. ## No, Acetaminophen does not get dangerous after the expiration date, however, it may have lost potency, so it may not work as well as it did when it was new. Too much, however, can be very dangerous, so it is not safe to try to take more of it, to achieve the same results. Do you have any questions? ## If acetamenophen has lost potency due to age, why is it dangerous to take more to get the same effect? ## I had a doctor tell me yesterday NEVER to take expired Tylenol. Pharmacist said today also not to take expired aspirin or antibiotics. Other drugs amy/will lose potency.

How long past the expression date are the pills still good to take? ## The pill in description contains a combination of Acetaminophen (325 mg) + Butalbital (50 mg) + Caffeine (40 mg); manufactured by Qualitest Pharmaceuticals Inc. From what I've read (according to a Harvard Medical School family health article), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. This conclusion was based upon a study conducted at the request of the US military due to stockpiles of expensive drugs they could otherwise need to replace every few years. The conclusion was that 90% of those drugs remained effective 10 to 15 years after the expiration date. I don't know whether or not the drug you have happens to be one of these drugs from the...

I have Hydrocodone + Acetaminophen 10/325 that was prescribed for my back pain which expired a year ago. Is it still effective and how long does it keep its potency? ## Hello, Mary! How are you? Medications do lose effectiveness over time, that's why they carry an expiration date, that's the longest the manufacturer can be sure it will maintain maximum efficacy under normal storage conditions. There's no definitive information that I can give you on how long it retains its full potency, once expired, because that depends on many factors, such as the storage conditions. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. After a year is up, the medication should still be safe but it will start to lose its potency and can no longer be as effective. acetaminophen / hydrocodone 500 mg / 5 mg, watson 349 shelf life? ## If they are still in the original factory sealed container, these tablets have a 3 year shelf life. However, once the seal on that container has been broken, the shelf life drops to one year, since they are then exposed to the elements that can cause degradation. This expiration date would include your receiving them in a bottle dispensed from your pharmacy. This is a generic for Vicodin, which is a narcotic pain reliever, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, constipation, dry mouth and drowsiness. Another note that needs to be added here is that as of 2013, the FDA has made a request that all manufacturers lower the amount of Acetaminophen in these combinat...

I have a pill with a V on one side and 2355 on the other and I want to know what the shelf life is? The contents of the pill are: Acetaminophen 325mg + Butalbital 50mg + Caffeine 40 mg. ## If it was dispensed to you in anything other than the original sealed factory container, the expiration is one year from the date you received, but it could also be lower, if it has been exposed to the elements that hasten degradation, such as heat, light, and moisture. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with?

When Does pill imprint 44-148 expire? ## Hello, Scott! How are you? This tablet is listed in the databases as containing 500mgs of Acetaminophen, so it is not a Percocet tablet. It is available over the counter and sold under the name Genepap Extra Strength Acetaminophen. It is used to treat pain and fever. Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness and headache. The expiration date actually depends on when they were manufactured, but the bottles I have are good for 3 years. Is there anything else I can help with? To clarify, Percocet contains Acetaminophen and Oxycodone. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

My bottle dates back two years old. Is it still OK to take? Wonder if it will harm me at this age? I'm sick with a cough and can't get out. ## I’m waiting to know what the difference in strength is between a hydrocodone-homatropine 5-1.5mg pill and a 10/325mg hydrocodone-acetaminophen pill, and how many of the hydrocodone-homatropine 5-1.5mg pills would I need to take to equal one of my 10/325 hydrocodone-acetaminophen pills? Can I also take my tramadol 50mg pills with the hydrocodone-homatropine 5-1.5mg pills? ## Mike, medications tend to lose efficacy once past their expiration date, so they may not work as well as they did, when they were new. Is it safe for me to take Sinex Dayime Congestion, Pressure and Pain Liquicaps if they expired 12/2019? They contain acetaminophen and phenylephrine. Thank you for your help! ## The FDA advises against using expired medications. Ref: Expired Medication Information The main issue with solid medications is that they tend to lose efficacy over time, so they may not work as well as they did, when they were new, which sometimes tempts people to take more, and that could still result in overdose. Some liquid medications may actually go rancid, and could make you ill if you take them. The expiration date listed on a medication is the longest period of time a manufacturer can be sure of the safety, and efficacy of their product, under average storage conditions. Thus, medications don't beco...
