Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), also known as chronic obstructive lung disease (COLD), chronic obstructive airway disease (COAD), chronic airflow limitation (CAL) and chronic obstructive respiratory disease (CORD), is the occurrence of chronic bronchitis or emphysema, a pair of commonly co-existing diseases of the lungs in which the airways narrow over time.[1] This limits airflow to and from the lungs, causing shortness of breath (dyspnea). My Dad had COPD and died from having emphysema. I was shocked to find out that the Army supplied free cigarettes to these young recruits in the 1950's . Have there been any legal implications in this regard ? ## I have since found out that because my Dad was 17 when he joined up that he was a minor , which means the military were responsible for his welfare and therefore this may be classed as Service Connected COPD Has anyone else come across a similar situation .

I'd like to ask a question. I've had emphysema for about 15yrs and it's been particularly bad the last 5yrs. I can *feel* it get worse every year. It also takes longer and longer to go away to a level to where I can walk around my home, get dressed, or stand-up to cook! Most of the time getting to the bathroom is exhausting. Recently, my GP gave a course of steroid pills and said I could take them for 3-5days but no longer; "cos they're really bad for you". I asked in what way & she said my bones. This makes no sense to me cos I've had osteo-arthritis since I was 20yrs old; and both knees are bone-on-bone - no cartilidge left. So, since that already exists, what else is wrong with them? I got to tell you, after 2 days I felt as if my illness reversed by 4...

I am taking amoxillin for lung infection.l have emphysema.lcame out in rash all over which turned into very painful blisters have had for week now seen Dr taken of of amoxillin. But still have blisters. ## Hello, Vince! How are you? Has there been any improvement, yet? If you still have blisters, you should return to your doctor, that could be the sign of a possibly dangerous reaction to this antibiotic. Its typical side effects, as reported by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

Can anyone tell me if Alepam can have an affect on Pericarditis or emphysema? And can it be taken in combination with Rabeprazole and Indomethacin? Any advice about any of this will be helpful thanks. ## Hello, Sandy! How are you? I didn't find any interactions or problems listed between these medications, but you should always double such information to be sure. As to the pericarditis and emphysema, the Alepam can cause depression of the central nervous system, so with those conditions, you shouldn't take it, without your doctor's approval. This medication also carries the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have copd, emphysema,ra and on oxygdn they round the clock.lately i hsve to alternate my drugs coz all i took was 1 hydrocodeone this morning snd i realize its the psin med msking me inssne.withra n broke hip i hsve to do something for psin whatdo u suggest oh i was on methotrdxtae for rs but allergic noe i tske2.5mg of prednidone ## Has this medication been prescribed for you? Given your complicated medical history, it is very important that you only take medications as prescribed by your doctor. The FDA warns that Hydrocodone with Acetaminophen carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. They are, however, safe to cut, since this formulation is not available as time released.

My GP has diagnosed me as in stage 4 of emphysema and has now prescribed me to take a 10 day course of trolic 5mg tabs daily besides the other medication I'm taking. This is my first day on them and although I felt I was breathing better during the day now at evening/night I cannot cough and clear the phylem from my lungs and cannot get to sleep. Is this normal at the onset of taking this course? Should I continue taking them or re-visit my GP? ## Trolic contains the active ingredient Prednisone, which is a steroid class medication, a glucocorticosteroid to be precise. The insomnia can be a normal side effect, but the inability to cough and clear your throat is unusual. Learn more Prednisone details here. How long did it last? Have things improved any? ## Thanks Verwon. I think it w...

I have COPD and Emphysema I would like to quit smoking this time so I ordered TBX-FREE but the box says not to use if you have depression or asthma. When I asked my Pulmonologist, he wouldn't even look at the box. Just asked if it was prescribed by a Doctor. I have taken Chantix twice both time quitting within 2 wks, first time for 1 year and the next time for a few short months, with no ill effects. I have used wellbutrin and nicotine patch that didn't help at all. ## I tried chantix twice, the first time had bad headaches and stomach aches so I stopped and got a refund. The second time was earlier this year (2016). I took it for the first 2 weeks and had slight side effects but no difference in my smoking urges! I'm not a "cold turkey" kind of person and I'm wi...

Recently bought Oxymetazoline nasal spray. I have COPD emphysema. I spent the whole night coughing with no sleep. Has anyone heard of this happening? Thank you ## Yes, it has been known to cause that, and a product warning instructs you to consult your doctor if this occurs, and the nasal spray doesn't alleviate your symptoms. Other side effects of Oxymetazoline may include funny taste, runny nose, burning nose. Are you on any other medications? Did you try sleeping with your head slightly elevated?

I was just given this relatively new drug today called Bevespi Aerosphere. I have stage 4 emphysema. Wondering if anyone taking this inhaler can comment either for or against this drug? Would love to hear what other patients have experienced. Thanks. ## The medications it contains aren't actually new, it is only this brand name and formulation that are new. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, headache, dry mouth, and cough. How is it working for you?

I HAVE AN ITCHY, RED BLISTERING RASH ON BOTH SHINS. CAN IT BE CAUSED BY SYMBICORT? I HAVE COPD, EMPHYSEMA AND HEP C. I HAVE ALSO BEEN ITCHING QUITE A BIT, WITHOUT RASH, ALL OVER MY BODY FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS. ANY IDEAS WHAT IT MIGHT BE RELATED TO? ## Symbicort contains the active ingredient Formoterol and Bedesonide and yes, it has been known to cause both types of side effects, in some people. It can affect your circulation, which makes you more susceptible to allergens and it can also, sometimes, cause such rashes. Have you consulted your doctor? You may need to switch to a different medication. ## I have taken Symbicort for 2 weeks and I have the same blistering rash. I itch everywhere. I hope it goes away soon. It is very uncomfortable. ## I have a red rash on my elbows and on my ...

Copper deficiency is causing aneurysms, herniated discs, hemorrhoids, high cholesterol, and emphysema, and these diseases are among the most destructive, painful, and numerous diseases in our society. Slipped or herniated discs are estimated to cost 200 billion dollars directly and indirectly each year in the USA alone [futuremedicine.com/doi/pdf/10.2217/14750708.4.1.51]. Four to six of 100 Americans autopsied died of a ruptured aneurysm. 3.6 to 6 percent of those examined had non ruptured brain aneurysms [Renkel]. Each year, 16,000 Americans die due to a ruptured aortic aneurysm. Of the 200,000 strokes that occur each year in the USA, 20% are aneurysms in the brain. I suspect that copper deficiency status is the most important parameter affecting them. For instance, aneurysms are produ...

Curious as to others' results from using Ventavis for Pulmonary Hypertension. Also interested if anyone that also has severe emphysema and pulmonary fibrosis as well as PAH has taken Ventavis and if so their opinion as to whether they showed any improvement & how long they have been taking it. ## Unfortunately, we haven't had any other posts about it from our site users, you are the first. Ventavis contains the active ingredient Iloprost, it is used to treat PAH, as well as several other medical conditions. You can learn more about it here: How has it worked for you, so far?

I have SLE, Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, Scleraderma, Raynauds, Achalasia, Brain Tumour, Peripheral Nueropathy and Emphysema, and now it's affecting my heart. The only pain killer I am taking is Panadol Osteo because I'm allergic to morphine, codeine etc. The docs are also passing me back and forth like a hot potato. I know my diseases make it difficult for them to deal with (no picnic for me either) and I understand that very little research has been done on one person having so many rare conditions but I just want the truth and more importantly just a sign that maybe they care.
