Venlafaxine, sold under the brand name Effexor among others, is an antidepressant medication of the serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) class.[4][5] It is used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, and social phobia.[5] It may also be used for chronic pain.[6] It is taken by mouth.[5] Common side effects include loss of appetite, constipation, ...

Is pristiq 25mg equal to effexor xr 37.5mg? Will the pristiq be stronger? Insurance will not pay for effexor but will pay for pristiq. ## When it comes to these medications, it really depends on which one works best for you and the only thing you can do is try the Pristiq to see if it helps you. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight changes. Have you started the Pristiq, yet?

Is it ok to take 1 musinex dm in the morning with effexor xr 150 I have a cold ## Hello, Taffy! How are you? No, these should not be taken together, because the Dextromethorphan in the Mucinex DM can elevate the levels of serotonin. That coupled with the Effexor creates the risk of your developing serotonin syndrome, which can be fatal. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Effexor as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth. It would be best to ask your doctor what would be safe for you to take. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been taking Effexor XR, 150 Mg.for about 7 years. My pain management doctor suggested that I switch to Cymbalta, 30 Mg.for a week and then 60 Mg.We felt that Cymbalta would be a better choice with Tramadol 150 Mg.that I currently take.Does anyone have experience with Cymbalta helping major depression /anxiety as well as pain relieved? Will 60 Mg.of Cymbalta be comparable to 150 Mg.of Effexor XR? ## Hello, Shar! How are you? I'm curious as to why it was felt that the Cymbalta would be a better choice with the Tramadol? Both Cymbalta and Effexor are in the exact same drug class, they are both SNRI antidepressants, so the same risks and possible interactions are there with both of them and the Tramadol, nothing is lessened by switching from one to the other. I'm sorry, if I...

I was Effexor XR for over 20 years until the insurance no longer paid for it and I went to generic. I don't feel that it does as well. The same with Xanac. Does anyone else have any experience with this? ## Hello, Mona! How are you? There can be fluctuations between name brand and generic medications. Under the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984, they are allowed to differ, in the amount of the active ingredients, by as much as plus or minus 20%. The FDA considers that an acceptable therapeutic window, but when someone has been taking the name brand steadily for years, a sudden switch may cause problems, if they generics are a little low in them. What are the markings on the ones you're currently taking? This information would enable me to research them more for you. ## yes. I feel the sa...

Hello, i have just started Effexor XR 75 mg this morning for anxiety and panic attacks. Took it 7 hrs ago. So far i feel ok, maybe slight nausea, a bit tired and dizzy. Could also be imagining these side effects as i am feeling very anxious about starting this med, but i have no choice in taking this treatment as i want to get my life back on track and feel normal and happy again. The thing is i have an interview tomorrow morning at 11 am for a job starting end of November. The dr told me to take this med in the morning but i'm really scared that i may start having side effects just before or during my interview. I have diazepam 5 mg which i can take before the interview to stay calm, but do you think it would be ok to take my 2nd day dose of Effexor just after my interview (about m...

My boyfriend is on Effexor XR. We have been dating for 10 months and we've been dealing with his very, very low libido. I am very patient with him, but I can see myself eventually running out of patience. We actually haven't been intimate since Mid-July. So at this point it's been 5-months since he's had ANY interest in me. I have been self-reliant, but I am starting to have trouble myself, because I am tired of doing it myself. Recently he saw his PCP to discuss low libido and energy. His PCP seems to think it may be related to sleep apnea, but I don't think he's right. Yes, my boyfriend does have some trouble in that area, but I don't think it's as bad as he thinks it is. I believe the problem is Effoxor, but I certainly don't want him to go off of ...

Due to weight gain and dwindle effect, my doctor switched my anti-depressant from Effexor XR. He told me to stop the Effexor XR immediately and start the Wellbutrin XL. He said to take the Wellbutrin XL for one week then start the Pristiq. FOr those of you who have stopped Effexor you probably know what I'm going to say next. It started with dizziness, rhythmic pulsating in my head, nausea and generally feeling like a slug. It's like my brain had a severe case of the flu. It was horrible. Now, I'm having with the dizziness and throbbing in my head, what feels like a hot flash but my face gets flushed and very hot. I feel as though I want to throw up. I called the doctor and stopped the Wellbutrin right away after about 3 days. I also called the pharmacist and he told me to t...

I am moving from Effexor XR to wellbutrin xl because of severe weight gain. I have been trying to wean myself off to start the new medicine but I can't side the moodiness. Can I go ahead and start Wellbutrin if I have only moved from 150 Effexor to 75 so the change isn't do traumatic? ## What has your doctor advised? I really wouldn't suggest mixing the two, unless your doctor advises you to do so, since they both act in similar ways, on similar chemicals in the body. ## For over 12 years I've been on Effexor Venlafaxine XR 150 mg, taking it as my doctor prescribed "at 7 pm". I gained lots of weight over the years, and I could never fall asleep at a normal hour, &I never slept through the night. I cried often this past year, and I felt that it just wasn't...

I have been on venlafaxine (Effexor XR 75 mg) for a 15 years. I have coronary angiogram procedure next week. I'm worried about the risks as I have read on the internet of the mortality rates after the procedure due to use of this particular antidepressant. Does anyone knows or has any statistics or advice?

Ihave been taking both drugs for quite some time but only recently have lost my sense of taste and smell and instead taste and smell only a metallic taste. Also take vitamin c, vitamin B-6 and B-12. I stopped taking everything and my taste and smell have improved but my depression and insomnia hae returned. please advise ## Effexor XR contains a time released formulation of Venlafaxine and it appears that both it and the Mirtazapine can cause taste loss, in some people. Have you discussed the problem with your doctor? You may need a dosage adjustment or require a switch to different medications. There are others on the market that you can try. In addition, they both cause dry mouth, which can also aggravate the problem and cause the metallic taste. ## it is probably the remeron. these m...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have been on SSRI's for years and Effexor XR seems to really work well for me until recently. My doctor increased my dosage from 225 mg. to 300 mg. After taking the new dosage for 2 weeks, I felt, literally, like a new woman! I was cooking, cleaning, socializing - things I didn't do much of in the past! I was ecstatic about how I felt! Everyone noticed the difference and then - all of a sudden - I'm back to feeling depressed again. It has now been four weeks since the dosage increase. Was the feeling good just a fluke? Will it return after my body fully adjusts to the medicine? I don't know what to think anymore. Anyone else have similar experience? I am seeing my doctor soon and will ask ...

Is the efficacy in dosing comparable or the same?? My rheumatologist titrated me off Effexor XR 150mg which I was taking to assist in controlling my Fibromyalgia pain & put me on Wellbutrin SR 150mg. I am 3 weeks taking Bupropion & I have been crying & depressed like never in my life the past 3 days & having suicidal thoughts. I just thought I was experiencing major depression due to a few recent events but THEN it just dawned on me I switched these medications recently and I feel this CHANGE is what is affecting my mental state. What do I do???? I can't take the crying & feeling this way much longer. It is Sunday & I know the first advice is going to be CALL MY DOCTOR. What is the second suggestion, increase the Bupropion? Take an Effexor XR?? I already took...

I'm getting concerned about my husband. He has been put on Effexor XR 75 mg, together with Prazosin, and Clonazepam 1 mg, for depression and anxiet and PTSD. When he feels more anxious he will take another Clonazepam, or a half mg of it. I realize his dosages aren't high on these medications but he is also extremely sensitive to meds, so for him this may well be a lot. Lately he has been drinking, after being completely off the alcohol for quite a few years. He will start drinking wine after work, and will drink 3 or more 16 oz glasses. Then he will take another 1.5 of clonazepam some nights, or else 2 Tylenol PM's and go to sleep. I know the drill about drinking and I try not to nag him but I did tell him this pattern is dangerous, against his doctor's instructions and ...

Has anybody else been prescribed this medication for hot flashes? I have fibromyglia, CFS, nerve damage in my legs, Osteoarthritis in both knees, herniated disks in my neck, and three bulging disks in my lower back. I also have terrible insomnia. After reading all of the side affects I am afraid to even try it. I am also taking 60mg er mscontin 3 times a day, Valium 10mg 3 times a day, and Xanax 1mg at bedtime for sleep. And D3 2000 iu once a day. Any help would be appreciated. ## Hello, Bettyboob! How are you? Yes, it's actually become very common to prescribe a medication like this for hot flashes and other female hormonal symptoms, since they are not as dangerous a hormonal replacement therapy and usually help with a broad range of symptoms. What side effects have you concerned? ...

I was perscribed Effexor XR 75MG for one year after suffering from depression after the death of a family member. 10 days ago I stopped using this medication and I have had strange side effects I contribute to withdrawal. I get waves of tingling throughout my body. Like an electric shock feeling. I wanted to know if anyone else has had this feeling after discontinuing Effexor XR. ## i was on effexor for nearly 4 years, a dose of 150mg i had somewhat intense withdraw that lasted for a couple of weeks. i had to comae of them slowly. ## I know EXACTLY what you're going through, Lori. I'm not exactly drug-compliant, I forget easily depending on my stress levels and I take 150mg 2x daily. If I miss a dose I feel the same as you which I've called twitchy. However, recently I reali...

I am an MD who was RX Effexor XR for depression over 10 years ago. I took 75mg for many years and felt fine for a long time, but then wanted to get off of it. I would be in a panic if I forgot to take my pill and would experience strange dizzy/buzzing sensation behind my eyes. I was able to taper down to the 37.5mg pretty easily by alternating daily between 75mg/37.5mg. Then I got stuck and tried taking the lower dose every other day or every 36 hours but the side effects were too great. Then luckily, my new partner suggested opening up the capsules and tapering off with beads. I have been doing that now for about a year and a half. The original generic brand capsule had about 39 beads in and I was able to get down to 6 beads. When I tried to stop I couldn't function. I was shocked ...

What is the exchange dose of effexor xr and Zoloft?( what dose of Effexor is equal to 40 mg. of Zoloft? ## There is currently no 40mg dose of Zoloft available, the closest would be 50mgs, so the information I've found is relevant to that dosage. Generally the switch requires 75mgs of the Effexor ER to equal the 50mg dosage of Zoloft. However, your doctor may use a different dosage, depending on the severity of your condition and your response to the medications. What dosage has your doctor advised?

I've been on Effexor for about 3 weeks; has anyone had any swelling of the extremities? I do, and I'm thinking of stopping use and returning to Wellbutrin and Prozac (which I was on before). ## Swelling of the extremities is not a side effect of Effexor; however, high blood pressure is. Since Effexor can raise your blood pressure, you might retain fluid and need a simple water pill or blood pressure pill. I would ask the doctor about this before abandoning the medication, especially if the medication is helping with the depression. ## you might want to go to a grocery store each day for about a week, sit down for five minutes and then take your blood pressure. It should not be any higher than 140/88. That is even a little borderline high. ## when i miss a dose of effector xr i be...

I am a person with clinical depression [past 30 years] who takes 150 mg of Effexor XR daily. I have done therapy in the recent past for a few years and concluded it when my therapist and I mutually agreed it was no longer needed and just went to medical maintenance with a psychiatrist, which was going great, but he just closed his practice for health reasons. I am having trouble finding a physician or private psychiatrist to just prescribe me with this medication and see me maybe twice a year for a med-check to make sure all is still going well. All the facilities want to require me to be in therapy at the same time, which doesn't fit my needs or situation. My personal physician does not feel comfortable prescribing psych meds. Just need to find someone in Pittsburgh who will and who t
