I had gotten perscribed 30 xanax I ir and xanax 2mg XR, I needed prior authorization for the xanax XR 2mg, to have enough for the month I have to break the XR in half. Will this work? ## Hello, Verve! How are you? No, breaking or cutting one could cause you to get too much of the medication, at once, which might result in overdose. The XR designates them as being time released. The FDA lists this medication as being a benzodiazepine that's most commonly used to treat anxiety and nervous disorders. It carries the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability. Is there anything else I can help with?

Does Xanax make you not care about (or love) things and people in your life anymore when used over an extended period of time? ## Xanax will change your entire way of life while calming you down. It is a very effective medicine that comes with a dark side of dependence and withdrawal ## Yes, as Eddy has stated, it can cause such things, in some people that take it. According to the NIH, that can happen to some people with most anxiety medications and antidepressants. It also carries the risk of being habit forming and a sudden abrupt withdrawal can create the risk of seizures, according to the FDA. If it is becoming a real problem for you, you should inform your doctor, as you may need to try a different medication. Is there anything else I can help with?

I began taking Xanax in 1982. I have been abusing it more and more over the years. I can now take 14 mg and not even tell it. I can stop taking it with no withdrawals. It's like I am immune to it. For the past two years I have been experiencing a lack of cognition, forgetfullness, and general fatigue. It does not matter if I stop the Xanax for a couple of months, I feel like the deficit is permanent. Can Xanax lead to permanent brain damage? ## ever have your liver enzymes looked at? I have a suspicion that something might be going on there. More specifically, your liver enzymes. With those amounts and beginning to go even heavier, you are not immune just maybe something is not working quite like is used too. I'd recommend you go get your liver checked out right now... or resear...

I have panic attacks and high anxiety, but where l live l can't find a dr to help me. They all know mental health drugs and l will not take mental health pills. Can you give me some suggestions? Dr's don't care anymore. ## @Revonda, I couldn't agree with you more on not wanting to succumb to the notion of taking something like xanax, with the risk of so many side effects. I saw a similar post on here about someone not being able to get sufficient anxiety relief through the medications recommended by their doctor, where another comment had mentioned utilizing 'therapy sessions' to help manage anxiety/panic during those times when medications either fell short, or weren't readily available. So I just wanted to build on that suggestion and encourage you to consi...

How long after taking Suboxone is it safe to take Xanax? I have severe asthma and I'm scared. ## No one is going to tell you what is "safe" or not aside from your Doctor. Abuse and dependence Suboxone has opioid effects, and long-term use can lead to physical and psychological dependence. Suboxone dependence can cause drug-craving and drug-seeking behavior, which may lead to misuse or abuse. Abuse can cause overdose and dangerous side effects, including death. This is especially true if Suboxone is used along with other opioids, alcohol, benzodiazepines (such as Ativan, Valium, or Xanax), or other drugs. ## What Eddy stated is correct, only your doctor can decide what is safest for you. Combining Suboxone with Xanax could result in higher levels of sedation, respiratory depr...

I have been taking alprazolam under different generic name brands. I have now been given the Dava manufacturing brand and have been getting a swollen tongue, mouth, and throat. Could I be an allergic reaction to this brand? ## Hello, Maureen! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're having. Yes, it sounds like you may be allergic to something in these ones. Have you consulted your doctor? You need to stop taking it and see them, as soon as possible, to confirm what is going on and discover your treatment options, if any are necessary. Allergic reactions like this can continue to get worse and may put your life in danger, if your throat is swelling. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, diz...

Just trying to determine if it's safe to take a 10mg generic Vicodin with Xanax and if it is okay should I only take half a bar? ## What dosage is the Xanax? Have they both been prescribed for you? The main issue with combining these types of medications is that they both increase sedation, so it could intensify some of the side effects you may experience, such as drowsiness and dizziness. So, they should only be take together, if your doctor approves and, if so, then please ensure that you will not be driving or operating any potentially dangerous machinery. Both of these medications also carry the risk of being habit forming, as warned by the FDA and other side effects may possibly include nausea, dry mouth, irritability, headache and constipation. ## Great advice Verwon! I was wondering if someone could tell me how long I should wait to take a 1 mg xanax after taking a 10 mg hydrocodone at around 11 am this morning? ## There's no specific time that you have to wait, if they've both been prescribed for you. However, taking them together could result in your experiencing more severe side effects than usual, which the FDA lists as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and sedation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Interesting warning box at the Pfizer Xanax site: WARNING: RISKS FROM CONCOMITANT USE WITH OPIOIDS Concomitant use of benzodiazepines and opioids may result in profound sedation, respiratory depression, coma, and death [see Warnings, Drug Interactions]. ? Is this extremely harmful? Has anyone on here had to go through this before? Hopefully someone can help. ## No, it isn't a combination that is extremely harmful, as long as your doctor has prescribed them for you and is monitoring you regularly for any issues. However, you may experience more side effects, according to the NIH, which could include nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, and sedation. What side effects have you experienced, so far?

I had been taking Zoloft for about a year along with Xanax(for about 2 months) and it didn't help me a lot, but i felt that i couldn't control my appetite anymore when i stopped this treatment, though i didn't gain or lost weight during the treatment, but i noticed that when i was decreasing the dosage i lost 6 lbs. ## Zoloft is being recalled by the FDA for being a critical health hazard for woman and their babies, I just can't believe how many women are putting their lives at risk.

Aside from the sedative effect of Xanax and alcohol, someone told me that some patients prescribed narcotics take Xanax to increase the narcotic effects? Is this true? ## Soma is a big favorite with narcotic patients but sure, it is accurate to say that Xanax does cause this effect to some degree. ## People abuse benzodiazepines. It’s a bad idea though. Take too many and you won’t even remember what you did. And it does intensify the effect of opiates and tends to increase one's risk of overdosing because of this. Please don’t do this if you wanna stay alive. Seen too many people OD or die. ## The effects are usually due to an increased severity of the side effects, when they are taken together, which the FDA lists as possibly including nausea, dizziness, drowsines...

I think Zoloft is a junk pill & Xanax rules. What's your opinion on the two meds? ## I think that you're trying to compare two different medications that aren't comparable, at all. Xanax contains the active ingredient Alprazolam, it is a benzodiazepine that's most commonly used to treat anxiety and nervous disorders. It has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness headache and irritability. Learn more Xanax details here. It is something that can have have an immediate effect, so it can be taken as needed, rather than on a regular basis. Zoloft, however, is an SSRI antidepressant, these can help with conditions such as depression, anxiety, and OCD, but they do not have the immediate effect that a benzodiazepine does, th...

I have looked extensively for info with my situation but haven't found much. when I was 15 I started doing pills, and it resulted in 5 yrs of heavy addiction to xanax, up to the point of doing about 30 mg per day and drinking in excess. Throughout the 5 years I also did other pharms: Hydrocodone (only a couple times, wasn't a fan) Amitriptilene and Nortriptilene (for about 6 months with Xanax) Rohypnol (for about 6 months with Xanax) Marijuana (entire time with Xanax, and still smoking to this day) I have been clean now for 4 1/2 years (with the exception of occasional marijuana use) and thought my brain would be more recovered by now but its not. My short term memory is still horrible (it has barely improved), I still have serious sleep problems, anxiety, apathy, and general co...

Hello all, I started taking Viibryd back in August of 2013. My doctor prescribed me 40 mg daily. I was also taking .25 Xanax as needed. To say if my anxiety went away, I'm not so sure. Anyways, I relocated to California back in January, and I am now 2,000 miles away from most of my anxiety triggers. There have been days when I had forgotten to take my medicine and experienced TERRIBLE side effects. Itchy all over, dizzy, and terrible neck pain. I went to see my new doctor about 2 1/2 weeks ago and he said that someone my age (22), and size (118 pounds) should have never been prescribed this or such a high dose. He instructed me to ween off of it. Needless to say after taking 1/2 for a week, then 1/4 for a week, as of Monday I am done to nothing. I am exhausted. I literally can sleep...

Some people may also experience some impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Avoid driving or operating...
